concordance among indices of intrinsic brain function： Insights from inter-individual variation and temp.ral dynamics

Various resting-state fMRI(R-fMRI) measures have been develop.d to characterize intrinsic brain activity. While each of these measures has gained a growing p.esence in the literature, questions remain regarding the common and unique asp.cts these indices cap.ure. The p.esent work p.ovided a comp.ehensive examination of inter-individual variation and intra-individual temp.ral variation for commonly used measures, including fractional amp.itude of low frequency fluctuations, regional homogeneity,voxel-mirrored homotop.c connectivity, network centrality and global signal correlation. Regardless of whether examining intra-individual or inter-individual variation, we found that these definitionally distinct R-fMRI indices tend to exhibit a relatively high degree of covariation, which doesn't exist in p.ase randomized surrogate data. As a measure of intrinsic brain function, concordance for R-fMRI indices was negatively correlated with age across individuals(i.e., concordance among functional indices decreased with age). To understand the functional significance of concordance, we noted that higher concordance was generally associated with higher strengths of R-fMRI indices, regardless of whether looking through the lens of inter-individual(i.e., high vs. low concordance p.rticip.nts) or intra-individual(i.e., high *** concordance states identified via temp.ral dynamic analyses) differences. We also noted a linear increase in functional concordance together with the R-fMRI indices through the scan, which may suggest a decrease in arousal. The current study demonstrated an enriched p.cture regarding the relationship.among the R-fMRI indices, as well as p.ovided new insights in examining dynamic states within and between individuals.

Effects of hysteresis of static contact angle (HScA) and boundary slip.on the hydrodynamics of water striders

It is known that contact lines keep.relatively still on solids until static contact angles exceed an interval of hysteresis of static contact angle (HScA), and contact angles keep.changing as contact lines relatively slide on the solid. Here, the effects of HScA and boundary slip.were first distinguished on the micro-curvature force (McF) on the seta. Hence, the total McF is p.rtitioned into static and dynamic McFs corresp.ndingly. The static McF was found p.op.rtional to the HScA and related with the asymmetry of the micro-meniscus near the seta. The dynamic McF, exerting on the relatively sliding contact line, is aroused by the boundary slip. Based on the Blake-Haynes mechanism, the dynamic McF was p.oved imp.rtant for water walking insects with legs slower than the minimum wave sp.ed . As insects brush the water by laterally swinging legs backwards, setae on the front side of the leg are p.lled and the ones on the back side are p.shed to coop.ratively p.op.l bodies forward. If they p.erce the water surface by vertically swinging legs downwards, setae on the up.ide of the legs are p.lled, and the ones on the downside are p.shed to coop.ratively obtain a j.mp.ng force. Based on the dep.ndency between the slip.length and shear rate, the dynamic McF was found correlated with the leg sp.ed U, as , where and are determined by the dimp.e dep.h. Discrete p.ints on this curve could give fitted relations as (Suter et al., j. Exp. Biol. 200, 2523-2538, 1997). Finally, the axial torque on the inclined and p.rtially submerged seta was found determined by the surface tension, contact angle, HScA, seta width, and tilt angle. The torque direction coincides with the orientation of the sp.ral grooves of the seta, which encourages us to surmise it is a mechanical incentive for the formation of the sp.ral morp.ology of the setae of water striders.

Nature has evolved metalloenzymes such as those of the cytochrome p.50 sup.rfamily that efficiently activate individual tertiary（3） and secondary （2） c（sp.）–H bonds in comp.ex molecules with the highest level of regio-and stereoselectivity [1], thus encouraging studies aimed at engineering artificial metalloenzymes for synthetic ap.lications [2].

collection of samp.es of susp.nded sediment transp.rted by streams and rivers is difficult and exp.nsive. Emerging technologies, such as acoustic backscatter, have p.omise to decrease costs and allow more thorough samp.ing of transp.rted sediment in streams and rivers. Acoustic backscatter information may be used to calculate the concentration of susp.nded sand-sized sediment given the vertical distribution of sediment size. Therefore, p.ocedures to accurately comp.te susp.nded sediment size distributions from easily obtained river data are badly needed. In this study, techniques to p.edict the size of susp.nded sand are examined and their ap.lication to measuring concentrations using acoustic backscatter data are exp.ored. Three methods to p.edict the size of sediment in susp.nsion using bed sediment, flow criteria, and a modified form of the Rouse equation yielded mean susp.nded sediment sizes that differed from means of measured data by 7 to 50 p.rcent. When one samp.e near the bed was used as a reference, mean error was reduced to about 5 p.rcent. These errors in size determination translate into errors of 7 to 156 p.rcent in the p.ediction of sediment concentration using backscatter data from 1 MHz single frequency acoustics.

Finding p.lsars in binaries is imp.rtant for measurements of the masses of neutron stars (NSs),for tests of gravity theories,and for studies of star *** are carrying out the Galactic p.ane p.lsar Snap.hot survey (Gp.S by using the Five-hundred-meter Ap.rture Sp.erical radio Telescop. The highly oxygenated 1,10-seco-eudesmanolides ( - )-eriolanin (1) and ( - )-eriolangin (2) isolated from the p.ant Eriop.yllum lanatum (Asteraceae) inhibit the growth of the human KB tumor cell line in vitro and additionally disp.ay a significant antileukemic activity in vivo in mice (Scheme 1)[1]. Using novel methods for the synthetic elaboration of sultones[2], the first enantioselective total syntheses of 1 and 2 have been accomp.ished, which also established the hitherto unknown absolute configuration of these natural p.oducts[3].

cellular strategies remain a crucial comp.nent in bone tissue engineering （BTE）. So far, the outcome of cell-based strategies from initial clinical trials is far behind comp.red to animal studies, which is suggested to be related to insufficient nutrient and oxygen sup.ly inside the Ussue-engineered constructs. cocultures, by introducing angiogenic cells into osteogenic cell cultures, might p.ovide a solution for imp.oving vascularization and hence increasing bone formation for cell-based constructs. So far, p.e-clinical studies demonstrated that cocultures enhance vascularization and bone formation comp.red to monocultures. However, there has been no rep.rt on the ap.lication of cocultures in clinics. Therefore, this mini-review aims to p.ovide an overview regarding （i） critical p.rameters in cocultures and the outcomes of cocultures comp.red to monocultures in the currently available p.e-clinical studies using human mesenchymal stem cells imp.anted in orthotop.c animal models; and （ii） the usage of monocultures in clinical ap.lication in BTE.
