Structure and floristic composition of tree stand in tropical forest in the Eastern Ghats of northern Andhra Pradesh, India

The changes in species composition, abundance and forest stand structure were analyzed across altitudinal regimes in tropical forests of Eastern Ghats of northern Andhra Pradesh, India. Three 1-ha plots were established with one each in low, medium and high altitudes. A total of 153 species, 2129 stems （709 stems .ha^-1） of ≥10 cm girth were enumerated. Species richness and diversity pattern varied along altitudinal gradient and increased with the altitude. Species richness varied from 52 to 110 species-ha^-1 and stand density from 639 to 836 ***^-1 with average basal area of 34.39 m^***^-1. Shannon-Wiener index （H＇） ranged from 4.55 to 5.17. Low altitude （i.e., Site 1） is dominated byXylia xylocarpa （59.22） and Lagerstroemia parviflora （23.90）, medium altitude （i.e., Site 2） by Xylia xylocarpa （45;50） Bursera serrata （17.29）, and high altitude （i.e., Site 3） has Schleichera oleosa （28.25） Pterocarpus marsupium （26.55） as predominant species. Taxonomically, Rubiaceae （12 species）, Fabaceae （12）, Euphorbiaceae （11）, Rutaceae （7） and Lanraceae （7） were dominant families. Density-wise, Fabaceae, combretaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Anacardiaceae and Myrtaceae were abundant. Thus, conservation assessment based on altitudinal regimes and the information on species structure and function can provide baseline information for monitoring and sustaining the biodiversity.

This paper describes an analysis of the plants of Sambalpur district of Orissa,India which have been used medicinally by local people. The families having medicinal values are analysed using Moerman's method of regression analysis. There were 136 plant families recorded from the study area. The analysis of families showed that the Euphorbiaceae family being used most ethnomedicinally by the local people in Sambalpur district of Orissa,whereas Poaceae is used least one. This type of study determines the degree of importance of plant families in the medicinal flora of the region.

Multi-agent technology has been used in many complex distributed and concurrent systems. A railway system is such a safety critical system and careful inves- tigation of the functional components is very important. Study of the various functional components in communi- cation-based train control （cBTc） system necessitates a good structural design followed by its validation and ver- ification through a formal modelling technique. The work presented here is the follow up of our multi-agent-based cBTc system for Indian railway designed using the methodology for engineering system of software agents. Behavioural analysis of the designed system involves several operating scenarios that arise during train run, and helps in understanding the reaction of the system to such situations. This validation and verification are very important as it allows the system designer to critically evaluate the desired function of the system and to correct the design errors, if any, before its actual implementation. Modelling, validation and verification of the structural design through coloured petri net （cPN） are central to this paper. Analysis of simulation results validates the efficacy of the design.

We have presented an analysis of the gate leakage current of the IP3 static random access memory （SRAM） cell structure when the cell is in idle mode（performs no data read/write operations） and active mode （performs data read/write operations）,along with the requirements for the overall standby leakage power,active write and read powers.A comparison has been drawn with existing SRAM cell structures,the conventional 6T,PP, P4 and P3 *** the supply voltage,V_（DD） = 0.8 V,a reduction of 98%,99%,92%and 94%is observed in the gate leakage current in comparison with the 6T,PP,P4 and P3 SRAM cells,respectively,while at V_（DD） = 0.7 V,it is 97%,98%,87%and 84%.A significant reduction is also observed in the overall standby leakage power by 56%〉, the active write power by 44%and the active read power by 99%,compared with the conventional 6T SRAM cell at V_（DD）= 0.8 V,with no loss in cell stability and performance with a small area *** simulation environment used for this work is 45 nm deep sub-micron complementary metal oxide semiconductor（cMOS） technology,t_（ox） = 2.4 nm,K_（thn） = 0.22 V,K_（thp） = 0.224 V,V_（DD） = 0.7 V and 0.8 V,at T = 300 K.

Tropical forests have been recognized as having global conservation importance. However,they are being rapidly destroyed in many regions of the world. Regular monitoring of forests is necessary for an adaptive management approach and the successful implementation of ecosystem management. The present study analyses the temporal changes in forest ecosystem structure in tribal dominated Malkangiri district of Orissa,India,during 1973-2004 period based on digitized forest cover maps using geographic information system （GIS） and interpretation of satellite data. Three satellite images Landsat MSS （1973）,Landsat TM （1990） and IRS P6 LISS III （2004） were used to determine changes. Six land cover types were delineated which includes dense forest,open forest,scrub land,agriculture,barren land and water body. Different forest types were also demarcated within forest class for better understanding the degradation pattern in each forest types. The results showed that there was a net decrease of 475.7 km2 forest cover （rate of deforestation = 2.34） from 1973 to 1990 and 402.3 km2 （rate of deforestation = 2.27） from 1990 to 2004. Forest cover has changed over time depending on a few factors such as large-scale deforestation,shifting cultivation,dam and road construction,unregulated management actions,and social pressure. A significant increase of 1222.8 km2 agriculture area （1973-2004） clearly indicated the conversion of forest cover to agricultural land. These alterations had resulted in significant environmental consequences,including decline in forest cover,soil erosion,and loss of biodiversity. There is an urgent need for rational management of the remaining forest for it to be able to survive beyond next decades. Particular attention must be paid to tropical forests,which are rapidly being deforested.

We have presented a comparative account of the high frequency prospective as well as noise behaviors of wide-bandgap 4H-Sic and 6H-Sic based on different structures of IMPATT diodes at sub-millimeter-wave frequencies up to 2.18 THz. The computer simulation study establishes the feasibility of the Sic based IMPATT diode as a high power density terahertz source. The most significant feature lies in the noise behavior of the Sic IMPATT diodes. It is noticed that the 6H-Sic DDR diode shows the least noise measure of 26.1 dB as compared to that of other structures. Further, it is noticed that the noise measure of the Sic IMPATT diode is less at a higher operating frequency compared to that at a lower operating frequency.

Ionization rate coefficients and saturation drift velocities for electrons and holes are the vital material parameters in determining the performance of an IMPATT *** have performed a sensitivity analysis of the millimeter wave characteristics of 4H-Sic and 6H-Sic IMPATT diodes with reference to the above mentioned material data and an operating frequency of 220 *** effect of a small variation in the ionization rate and drift velocity on the device characteristics like break down voltage,efficiency,noise measure and power output has been presented here.

An extreme （weather and climate） event does not only mean that an extreme occurs at a location, but more generally it can impact a certainarea and last a certain period of time, which is defined as a regional extreme event （REE） with a certain impacted area and duration. The conceptof REE has been defined to allow mainly objective assessment of the events without a pre-determined boundary and duration. This paper reviewsthe studies on REEs published during the past 20 years, especially recent years. Mainly in view of methodology, these studies can be divided intothree types studies focusing on spatial simultaneity, studies focusing on temporal persistence, and studies identifying REEs. The methodsidentifying REEs include two kinds, e.g., type-I methods stressing REE＇s temporal persistence within a relatively certain area and type-IImethods focusing on catching a complete REE. Identification methods proposed in this paper could provide valuable information for variouspurposes, such as real-time monitoring, estimating long-term changes, mechanism diagnosis, forecasting study and even attribution *** on REEs is important for objectively defining extreme weather and climate events, which depends on the spatial and temporal scales ofinterest. Such an objective definition will support ongoing climate monitoring and improve the assessment of how regional extreme events havechanged over time.

The Mahanadi delta,deposited on a series of horst and graben basement structures,is considered an extension of the East Lambert Rift of *** study is based on the hydrogeochemical assessment of this deltaic aquifer system and geospatial analysis thereof,to appreciate the basement structure influence on groundwater *** ion chemistry of subsurface waters portrays a distinct saline contamination across the terrain and varied regimes of water types,specifically with respect to southern and northern parts of this aquifer *** of the study indicate a general near surface saline horizon and significant fragmentation of the hydrostatic ***,in turn,implies noteworthy influence of formational water to salinity regimes and basin structural changes for the escape of these waters to surroundings.A plot of recent low intensity earthquakes displays proximity of epicenters to the faults as well as striking similarity to the trend of terrestrial faults indicating multiple reactivations of the *** further corroborate the above findings,spatial pattern analysis of individual hydrochemical variables is carried out which reveals specific clusters of sources(groundwater mixing)and sinks(groundwater dispersion) in proximity to basement fault *** the faults can be disregarded as conduits or barriers owing to their great depth,the overlying sedimentary mass,particularly,the horizons with significant clayey content have been distorted due to post rift subsidence and fault reactivations.A proximity analysis of ionic clusters points towards a greater influence of longitudinal faults to that of the transverse ones on groundwater mixing or dispersion.
