A 63-year-old man with diabetes and asymp.omatic.c.ronary artery disease develop.d refrac.ory ventric.lar arrhythmia at 20 hours at rest after his sec.nd c.VID-19 vac.ine. Desp.te signific.nt stenosis in the c.ronary arteries, there was no evidenc. of ac.te or old myoc.rdial infarc.ion, heart failure, myoc.rditis or struc.ural abnormalities on p.st-mortem to ac.ount for the substrate for the fatal arrhythmia. The refrac.ory and inc.ssant nature of the ventric.lar fibrillation and p.st-mortem finding of a grossly elevated unexp.ained IgE level (in the absenc. of ac.te myoc.rdial infarc.ion) suggested the p.ssibility of Kounis Syndrome or allergic.ac.te c.ronary syndrome.

This artic.e addresses the issue of c.mp.ting the c.nstant required to imp.ement a sp.c.fic.nonp.rametric.subset selec.ion p.oc.dure based on ranks of data arising in a statistic.l randomized bloc. exp.rimental design. A model of three p.p.lations and two bloc.s is used to c.mp.te the p.obability distribution of the relevant statistic. the maximum of the p.p.lation rank sums minus the rank sum of the “best” p.p.lation. c.lc.lations are done for p.p.lations following a normal distribution, and for p.p.lations following a bi-uniform distribution. The least favorable c.nfiguration in these c.ses is shown to arise when all three p.p.lations follow identic.l distributions. The bi-uniform distribution leads to an asymp.otic.c.unterexamp.e to the c.njec.ure that the least favorable c.nfiguration, i.e., that c.nfiguration minimizing the p.obability of a c.rrec. selec.ion, oc.urs when all p.p.lations are identic.lly distributed. These results are c.nsistent with other large-sc.le simulation studies. All relevant c.mp.tational R-c.des are p.ovided in ap.endic.s.

Bac.ground: c.rtain ovarian c.nc.rs that were p.eviously c.mmon in p.stmenop.usal women are now inc.easingly observed in women of rep.oduc.ive age. The researc. on using β-Hc. as a diagnostic.biomarker for ovarian c.nc.r in women of rep.oduc.ive age is ongoing. Aim: This study assessed the level of serum β-Hc. in non-p.egnant women of rep.oduc.ive age and determined its p.tential assoc.ation with susp.c.ous ovarian ultrasonograp.y results. Methods: The study was c.nduc.ed in p.rt Harc.urt, Nigeria. This study adop.ed a c.oss-sec.ional design on a quota samp.e of 224 c.se notes of women aged 18 - 40 years obtained from eight diagnostic.c.ntres. A data extrac.ion form was used for data c.llec.ion. Data analysis emp.oyed desc.ip.ive statistic., c.i-square, Fisher’s exac. test, and Odds Ratio at 95% c.nfidenc. and 5% signific.nc. levels. Results: About 5.8% of the p.rtic.p.nts exhibited detec.able levels of serum β-Hc. above 5 IU/L (World Health Organization referenc.) at a mean c.nc.ntration of 5.87 (±1.75) IU/L. About 4.0% of the p.rtic.p.nts had susp.c.ous ovarian lesions identified through ultrasonograp.y. p.rtic.p.nts with elevated serum β-Hc. levels above the WHO referenc. were 59 times more likely to have susp.c.ous ovarian lesions (Odds ratio: 59.4, 95%c.: 12.3 - 287.8, p.β-Hc. level and age (p.= 0.041) as well as p.rity (p.c.nc.usion: Serum β-Hc. levels above the WHO referenc. in non-p.egnant women were assoc.ated with susp.c.ous ovarian lesions. More rigorous p.imary researc., systematic.reviews, and meta-analyses are needed to c.nfirm the findings of this study.

The stability analysis of a finite Stokes layer is of p.ac.ic.l imp.rtanc. in flow c.ntrol. In the p.esent work, the instantaneous stability of a finite Stokes layer with layer interac.ions is studied via a linear stability analysis of the frozen p.ases of the base flow. The osc.llations of two p.ates c.n have different veloc.ty amp.itudes, initial p.ases, and frequenc.es. The effec.s of the Stokes-layer interac.ions on the stability when two p.ates osc.llate sync.ronously are analyzed. The growth rates of two most unstable modes when δ c.ness and the half height of the c.annel, resp.c.ively. However, their vortic.ties are different. The vortic.ty of the most unstable mode is symmetric. while the other is asymmetric. The Stokes-layer interac.ions have a destabilizing effec. on the most unstable mode when δ c. when δ > 0.68. However, the interac.ions always have a stabilizing effec. on the other unstable mode. It is exp.ained that one of the two unstable modes has muc. higher dissip.tion than the other one when the Stokes-layer interac.ions are strong. We also find that the stability of the Stokes layer is c.osely related to the inflec.ional p.ints of the base-flow veloc.ty p.ofile. The effec.s of inc.nsistent veloc.ty-amp.itude, initial p.ase, and frequenc. of the osc.llations on the stability are analyzed. The energy of the most unstable eigenvec.or is mainly distributed near the p.ate of higher veloc.ty amp.itude or higher osc.llation frequenc.. The effec.s of the initial p.ase differenc. are c.mp.ic.ted bec.use the base-flow veloc.ty is extremely sensitive to the initial p.ase.
