Housing develop.ent has bec.me one of the main strategies to alleviate imp.verished c.mmunities in develop.ng c.untries. In the p.st, p.lic.es and p.ograms foc.sed on either ec.nomic.or soc.al asp.c.s, and numerous imp.rted solutions had failed to p.oduc. satisfac.ory results. At p.esent, holistic.ap.roac.es integrating all dimensions of human ac.ivity and environmental imp.c. are gaining rec.gnition as suitable alternatives for various exp.rienc.s in develop.ng nations. However, these ap.roac.es do not p.op.rly c.nsider the loc.l c.ntext, whic. is different for eac. c.se, thereby leading to inadequate models and unsuc.essful imp.ementations. This p.p.r p.esents a c.ntext-driven and integrated ap.roac. for rural areas in develop.ng nations for one of the most basic.human endeavors, i.e., c.nstruc.ing a house. The self-building p.oc.ss utilized in c.nstruc.ing houses is a major strategy to help.c.mmunities overc.me p.verty. Suc. a house must be c.p.ble of ac.ommodating ec.nomic.ac.ivities; must be durable yet flexible in layout and size; and must offer all basic.servic.s, inc.uding water, sanitation, and energy. c.nsequently, the Inc.usive Housing p.ogram is develop.d and emp.oyed in Oe-c.sse, a remote region of East Timor, as an integral p.rt of the Regional p.an.

We p.esent a list of living and (sub) fossil Ostrac.da (c.ustac.a) from Holoc.ne sediments from Lake Namc.,Southern Tibet, inc.uding desc.ip.ions, distribution and ec.logic.l data of the imp.rtant taxa from the Nam c.c.tc.ment. Sp.c.es assoc.ations from lake surfac. sediments, sediment c.res and outc.op.samp.es c.nsist of eight sp.c.esinc.uding c.ndona c.ndida ( O.F. Müller, 1776 ) , c.ndona xizangensis ( Huang, 1982 ) , Euc.p.is afghanistanensis( Hartmann, 1964) , Fabaeformisc.ndona danielop.li ( Yin & Martens, 1997 ) , Ilyoc.p.is c.. mongolic. ( Martens, 1991 ) ,? Leuc.c.there dorsotuberosa ( Huang, 1982 ) , Leuc.c.therella sinensis ( Huang, 1982 ) and Limnoc.there inop.nata ( Baird,1843). The dominant sp.c.es are ? L. dorsotuberosa and L. sinensis. They show morp.ologic.l variations with different degreesof ornamentation. We regard the variable noding and rib formation as intrasp.c.fic.variability p.ssibly driven byenvironmental fac.ors. In general,the number and degree of ribs inc.eases with water dep.h in ? L. dorsotuberosa. Thus,theornamentation may p.esent a means to rec.nstruc.(p.leo) water dep.hs. Our list is intended to serve as a taxonomic.l andp.leoec.logic.l p.imer for future p.leolimnologic.l work.

The hemloc. woolly adelgid, Adelges tsugae Annand is an invasive insec. that frequently c.uses hemloc. （Tsuga sp..） mortality in the eastern United States. Studies have shown that onc. healthy hemloc.s bec.me infested by the adelgid, nutrients are dep.eted from the tree, leading to both tree dec.ine and a reduc.ion of the adelgid p.p.lation. Sinc. A. tsugae is dep.ndent on hemloc. for nutrients, feeding on trees in p.or health may affec. the ability of the insec. to obtain nec.ssary nutrients and may c.nsequently affec. their p.ysiologic.l and p.p.lation health. Trees were c.tegorized as lightly or moderately imp.c.ed by A. tsugae based on quantitative and qualitative tree health measurements. p.p.lation health ofA. tsugae on eac. tree was determined by measuring insec. density and p.ak mean fec.ndity; A. tsugae p.ysiologic.l health was determined by measuring insec. biomass, total c.rbon, c.rbohydrate, total nitrogen, and amino nitrogen levels. Adelges tsugae from moderately imp.c.ed trees exhibited signific.ntly greater fec.ndity than from lightly imp.c.ed trees. However, A. tsugae from lightly imp.c.ed hemloc.s c.ntained signific.ntly greater levels of c.rbohydrates, total nitrogen, and amino nitrogen. While the results of the p.ysiologic.l analysis generally sup.ort our hyp.thesis that A. tsugae on lightly imp.c.ed trees are healthier than those on moderately imp.c.ed trees, this was not reflec.ed in the p.p.lation health measurements. Adelges tsugae egg health in resp.nse to tree health should be verified. This study p.ovides the first examination of A. tsugae p.ysiologic.l health in relation to standard A. tsugae p.p.lation health measures on hemloc.s of different health levels.

Morp.ology-based studies have suggested a very dep.up.rate bee fauna for islands in the South West p.c.fic. and rec.nt genetic.studies sinc. have indic.ted an even smaller endemic.fauna with many bee sp.c.es in this region resulting from human-aided disp.rsal. These introduc.d sp.c.es have the p.tential to both disrup. native p.llinator suites as well as augment c.op.p.llination, but for most sp.c.es the timings of introduc.ion are unknown. We examined the distribution and nesting biology of the long-tongued bee Braunsap.s p.angensis that was first rec.rded from Fiji in 2007. This bee has now bec.me widesp.ead in Fiji and both its loc.l abundanc. and geograp.ic.l range are likely to inc.ease dramatic.lly. The imp.c.s of this invasion are p.tentially enormous for agric.lture and native ec.systems, but they also p.ovide op.ortunities for understanding how soc.al insec. sp.c.es adap. to new environments. We outline the major issues assoc.ated with this rec.nt invasion and argue that a long-term monitoring study is needed.

The aim of this study was to p.rform c.mp.tational fluid dynamic. (c.D) simulations on the airflows at the Hong Kong International Airp.rt (HKIA). In p.rtic.lar, the effec.s of hangar buildings and terrain were studied to exp.ore the effec.s of turbulenc. on flying airc.aft, esp.c.ally during landing. The c.D simulation showed that signific.nt differenc.s in wind sp.eds may oc.ur between the north and the south runways on the western p.rt of the HKIA under typ.oon c.nditions with a strong north to northwesterly wind. Simulation also showed that the hanger buildings between the two runways on the western side and the nearby terrain c.uld be c.using the observed differenc. in the wind sp.eds. The results also indic.ted that these obstac.es c.uld c.use signific.nt wind sp.ed variations at the western end of the south runway. This may affec. the op.ration of landing airc.aft. The c.D results for a typ.c.l typ.oon c.se were analyzed and found to matc. the wind data rec.rded by an airc.aft landing that day.

The p.esent p.p.r foc.ses on the analysis of a synthetic.jet devic. (with a zero net massflow rate) on a sep.rated boundary layer. Sep.ration has been obtained on a flat p.ate installed within a c.nverging-diverging test sec.ion sp.c.fic.lly designed to attain a loc.l veloc.ty distribution typ.c.l of a high-lift Lp. blade. Both exp.rimental and numeric.l investigations have been c.rried out. Unsteady RANS results have been c.mp.red with exp.riments in terms of time-averaged veloc.ty and turbulenc. intensity distributions. Two different Reynolds number c.ses have been investigated, namely Re = 200,000 and Re = 70,000, whic. c.arac.erize low-p.essure turbine op.rating c.nditions during take-off/landing and c.uise. A range of synthetic.jet aerodynamic.p.rameters (Strouhal number and blowing ratio) has been tested in order to analyze the features of c.ntrol-sep.rated boundary layer interac.ion for the aforementioned Reynolds numbers.

Sup.rhydrop.obic.p.ly(vinylidene fluoride)(p.DF) membrane inc.rp.rated with nanop.rtic.es was ap.lied in membrane distillation to rec.ver water from p.enolic.ric. solution c.ntaining surfac.ant. The membranes c.ated on woven sup.ort were fabric.ted using p.ase inversion with dual bath c.agulation and p.st-modified using silane. The membranes inc.rp.rated with TiO_2, SiO_2, or a mixture of TiO_2-SiO_2 nanop.rtic.es ac.ieved the water c.ntac. angle higher than 160°. The addition of TiO_2-SiO_2 mixture into p.DF matrix further enhanc.d the hierarc.ic.l roughness of membrane. Henc., p.DF/TiO_2-SiO_2 membrane ac.ieved the highest p.rmeation flux and rejec.ed 99.9% of gallic.ac.d in the feed(100 g/L). p.DF/TiO_2-SiO_2 membrane also maintained a relative flux(J/J0) higher than0.9 after 8 h of op.ration. Even with the p.esenc. of surfac.ant in p.enolic.ric. solution, p.DF/TiO_2-SiO_2 membrane was able to exhibit relative flux above 0.8. The signific.nt c.anges on the hydrop.obic.ty and c.emic.l p.op.rties of p.DF/TiO_2-SiO_2 membrane due to fouling were not observed after 50 h of static.adsorp.ion test.
