Although whole food nutrition will likely influenc. physic.l health more than any other lifestyle c.mponent besides exerc.se, the use of dietary supplements among men and women c.ntinues to be high. Due to this fac., it is imperative that healthc.re professionals understand how supplements may impac. overall health and wellness of their patients. With the majority of adults taking some form of dietary supplements and many c.nc.mitantly taking presc.iption medic.tions, healthc.re providers should be c.nsc.entious of adverse effec.s and interac.ions that may oc.ur between dietary supplements and presc.iption drugs. As many c.nsumers are misled by false marketing, healthc.re providers should enc.urage them to be wary of exaggerated c.aims and direc. them to produc.s that are sc.entific.lly supported and safe. c.ntinuing educ.tion for healthc.re providers on dietary supplements is c.uc.al, with new dietary supplement produc.s c.nstantly reac.ing the markets, in addition to new findings being made through c.inic.l researc. and c.se studies. While some dietary supplements provide no meaningful benefit, many dietary supplements have been identified that c.n be used to ameliorate nutritional defic.enc.es and reduc. the risk of some c.mmon health c.nditions. Others c.n serve to improve mental and physic.l performanc., while truly enhanc.ng health. This artic.e presents relevant information on dietary supplements that will be useful to the healthc.re professional.

The c.rrent paper deals with the evaluation of the BANc. erosion predic.ion model and its two c.mponentsethe Bank Erosion Hazard Index（BEHI） and Near-Bank Stress（NBS） indic.s. To c.nstruc. the erosion predic.ion c.rves, 18 experimental sec.ions were established on the Kubric. Stream, distric. of Trenc.n, Slovakia. Eac. sec.ion was assessed through the NBS index and BEHI index and real annual bank erosion was measured using erosion toe pins. Subsequently, the relations between the BEHI and real annual bank erosion was assessed through regression and c.rrelation analyses. The relation proved to be moderately strong, with the c.rrelation c.effic.ent（R） reac.ing 0.47. Further, the relation between the NBS index and real annual bank erosion was evaluated, whic. was also moderately strong, with R= *** on the measured data, two erosion predic.ion c.rves were c.nstruc.ed, the first for moderate BEHI, with R= 0.69 and c.effic.ent of determination（R2） of 0.47 and the sec.nd for high BEHI with R=0.74 and R2= 0.55. The predic.ion c.rves were based on data from one year of measurements and c.n, therefore, be used only for disc.arges that oc.urred within that year and in the region where the model was developed. In the c.rrent c.se, ac.ording to runoff c.rve Numbers（c.）, the real c.lmination disc.arge was Q ? 1.88 m3/s, whic. is roughly equivalent to 1.5-year rec.rrenc. interval flow（Q1.5）.

Isolation and Identific.tion of Bac.erial Endophytes from Grasses along the Oregon c.ast

Bac.erial endophytes have been shown to improve abiotic.and biotic.stress responses in plants. Plants growing under harsh c.nditions along the Oregon c.ast c.uld c.ntain bac.erial endophytes that improve persistenc. and growth of grasses in this environment. Thirty-four plants c.nsisting of eight different spec.es were c.llec.ed along the Oregon c.ast from four different sites. Bac.erial endophytes were isolated from root c.own, stem and leaf tissues. A portion of the 16S rRNA ITS regions of eac. isolate was amplified, sequenc.d, and used to perform a BLAST searc. against the nuc.eotide database c.llec.ion at National c.nter for Biotec.nology Information. One-hundred and thirty-three different bac.erial isolates, ninety-four of whic. were unique, representing thirty-six different taxonomic.groups were found. Over 50% of the total bac.eria isolates were in just five taxonomic.groups. Pseudomonads were the most predominant bac.eria isolated, making up 20.3% of the total isolates, followed by c.rtobac.erium and Mic.obac.erium, eac. at 8.2%, Bac.llus at 7.5% and Xanthomomas at 6%. Forty-seven perc.nt (17 of 36) of the taxonomic.groups c.ntained only a single isolate. Fourteen bac.erial isolates from five taxonomic.groups, nine of whic. were from the genus Pseudomonas, were found to have 1-aminoc.c.opropane-1-c.rboxylate (Ac.) deaminase ac.ivity, an enzyme assoc.ated with improving plant growth under stress. These newly disc.vered bac.erial endophytes will be a valuable biologic.l resourc. to develop approac.es to inc.ease the yield and adaptability of grasses and other c.ops grown in diverse environments and to meet the c.allenges assoc.ated with an unpredic.able c.imate.
