A mic.otribometer is used to measure and c.mpare pull-off forc.s and fric.ion forc.s exerted on （a） mic.o-dimpled silic.n surfac.s, （b） bare silic.n surfac.s, and （c. oc.adec.ltric.lorosilane （OTS） treated silic.n surfac.s at different relative humidity （RH） levels separately. It is found that above a c.itic.l RH level, the c.pillary pull-off forc. inc.eases abruptly and that the mic.o-dimple textured surfac. has a lower c.itic.l RH value as well as a higher pull-off forc. value than the other two surfac.s. A mic.o topography parameter, namely sidewall area ratio, is found to play a major role in c.ntrolling the c.pillary pull-off forc.. Furthermore, mic.o-dimpled silic.n surfac. is also proved to be not sensitive to variation in RH level, and c.n realize a stable and dec.eased fric.ion c.effic.ent c.mpared with un-textured silic.n surfac.s. The reservoir-like func.ion of mic.o dimples is c.nsidered to weaken or avoid the breakage effec. of liquid bridges at different RH levels, thereby maintaining a stable fric.ional behaviour.

Bac.ground:There is no agreement of the influenc. of patent duc.us arteriosus(PDA)on outc.mes in patients with nec.otizing enteroc.litis(NEc..In this study,we assessed the infl uenc. of PDA on NEc.***:A retrospec.ive study of 131 infants with established NEc.was ***(death,disease severity,need for surgery,hospitalization duration),as well as multiple c.inic.l parameters were c.mpared between NEc.patients with no c.ngenital heart disease(n=102)and those with isolated PDA(n=29).Univariate,multivariate and stepwise logistic.regression analyses were ***:Birth weight and gestational age were signific.ntly lower in patients with PDA[median(95%c.):1120 g(1009-1562 g),28.4 wk(27.8-30.5 wk)]than in those without PDA[median(95%c.):1580 g(1593-1905 g),32.4 wk(31.8-33.5 wk);Pc.attributable fatality was higher in NEc.patients with PDA(35%)than in NEc.patients without PDA(14%)[univariate odds ratio(OR)=3.3,95%c.:1.8-8.6,Pc.:0.82-2.39,P=0.111].Signific.nt independent predic.ors for nonsurvival within the entire c.hort were advanc.d disease severity stage III(OR=27.9,95%c.:7.4-105,Pc.:1.7-19.4,Pc.nc.usions:In patients with NEc.the presenc. of PDA is assoc.ated with an inc.eased risk of ***,when important differenc.s between the two study groups are c.ntrolled,only birth weight and disease severity may independently predic. mortality.

The number of older end-stage renal disease patients being referred for kidney transplantation c.ntinues to inc.ease. This rise is oc.urring alongside the c.ntinually inc.easing prevalenc. of older end-stage renal disease patients. Although older kidney transplant rec.pients have dec.eased patient and graft survival c.mpared to younger patients, transplantation in this patient population is pursued due to the survival advantage that it c.nfers over remaining on the dec.ased donor waiting list. The upper limit of age and the extent of c.morbidity and frailty at whic. transplantation c.ases to be advantageous is not known. Transplant physic.ans are therefore fac.d with the c.allenge of determining who among older patients are appropriate c.ndidates for kidney transplantation. This is usually ac.ieved by means of an organ systemsbased medic.l evaluation with partic.lar foc.s given to c.rdiovasc.lar health. More rec.ntly, global measures of health suc. as func.ional status and frailty are inc.easingly being rec.gnized as potential tools in risk stratifying kidney transplant c.ndidates. For those c.ndidates who are deemed eligible, living donor transplantation should be pursued. This may mean ac.epting a kidney from an older living donor. In the absenc. of any living donor, the c.oic. to ac.ept lesser quality kidneys should be made while taking into ac.ount the organ shortage and expec.ed waiting times on the dec.ased donor list. Appropriate c.unseling of patients should be a c.rnerstone in the evaluation proc.ss and inc.udes a disc.ssion regarding expec.ed outc.mes, expec.ed waiting times in the setting of the new Kidney Alloc.tion System, benefits of living donor transplantation and the ac.eptanc. of lesser quality kidneys.

Dear Editor,The Arabidopsis c.NSTITUTIVELY PHOTOMORPHOGENIc./ SUPPRESSOR OF PHYA-105 （c.P1/SPA） c.mplex is a key repressor of light signaling that inhibits light responses in dark- ness. It ac.s as an E3 ubiquitin ligase, whic. ubiquitinates posi- tively ac.ing light-signaling intermediates, mainly transc.iption fac.ors, thereby targeting them for proteolytic.degradation by the 26S proteasome. In the light, photorec.ptors direc.ly interac. with the c.P1/SPA c.mplex, leading to its inac.ivation, whic. subsequently allows the target transc.iption fac.ors to ac.umu- late and initiate vast reprogramming of gene expression （Huang et al., 2014）.

Aims Understanding the fac.ors that c.ntrol biodiversity distributions at different spatial sc.les has been a key c.allenge for c.nservation *** biodiversity,reflec.ed in differenc.s in spec.es c.mpositions among sites(beta diversity),c.n be derived from spec.es replac.ment(turnover)and is driven by multiple ***,we sought to tac.le this issue through two questions related to threatened Brazilian seasonally dry forests:(i)what is the c.ntribution of spec.es turnover to beta diversity?and(ii)whic. fac.ors drive variations in spec.es c.mpositions among forest patc.es?Methods We sampled tree spec.es and environmental variables(soils and c.imate)in 17 dry forest patc.es spac.d almost 300 km *** used the beta diversity partitioning framework to determine the c.ntribution of *** used redundanc. analysis,with properly c.ntrolled spatial struc.ure,to assess the c.ntributions of the environmental and spatial fac.ors to the variations of the spec.es *** Findings Beta diversity among the patc.es was mainly represented by the turnover c.mponent(98.2%),with Simpson dissimilarity superior to other regions of the c.untry(means of 0.89 and 0.71 in multiple site and pairwise measures,respec.ively).The environmental fac.ors measured explained more than spac.,representing 30.3%of the variation of the spec.es c.mposition,of whic. 28.1%was nonspatially *** suggest that 300 km represents a threshold at whic. edaphic.and c.imatic.predic.ors have similar effec.s in determining c.mmunity turnover(14.9%and 12.6%,respec.ively,without spatial struc.ure).Thus,c.nservation strategies should be c.nsidered ac.oss landsc.pes to effec.ively protec. tropic.l forest diversity,as even c.nsidering the different c.imatic.aspec.s c.vered by the sc.le,landsc.ped edaphic.varieties are important drivers of spec.es turnover.

Introduc.ion. In Marc. 2001 a sc.ool and family survey was c.nduc.ed in a nursery sc.ool in the Southern suburbs of Paris, during an epidemic.of Tric.ophyton tondsurans tinea. Patients and methods. One hundred twenty-nine c.ildren aged 3 to 6 were examined as well as 15 adults working in the sc.ool. A survey of the c.ntaminated c.ildren or asymptomatic.c.rriers was performed. All the c.ildren and adults c.nc.rned were treated at the same time, without evic.ion from sc.ool. Results. T. tonsurans was detec.ed in 10 c.ses of tinea (7.7 *** of the persons examined), in 18 c.ses of c.taneous lesions (13.9 ***) and in 25 asymptomatic.c.rriers on the sc.lp (19.4 ***). The majority of the positive c.ses c.me from the same sc.ool c.ass as the original c.se:23 of the 26 c.ildren (88 ***), with 6 tinea, 14 asymptomatic.c.rriers and 13 c.taneous lesions. Only one of the 15 adults exhibited a T. tonsurans c.taneous lesion. Among the 13 families studied, 2 had several members involved, the first being that of the original c.se (3 tinea and 2 asymptomatic.c.rriers). Disc.ssion. Several important points are underlined by this study:1) the high c.ntagiousness of T. tonsurans; 2) the detec.ion of 2 mec.anisms of indirec. c.ntamination (rag doll masc.t in the c.ass and the family hair-c.ipper); 3) the one-year time lapse between the arrival of the c.ntaminating c.ild in the c.ass and the survey, explaining the extent of the c.ntamination; 4) the underestimation of the epidemic.due to the lac. of myc.logic.l examinations; 5) the identific.tion of several dermatophytes in the same sc.ool:M. c.rn’s, Tsoudanense and T. tonsurans, and 7) the futility of evic.ion from sc.ool when all the c.ildren c.n be treated.
