Understanding the surfac. proc.sses(deposition and surfac. diffusion)that oc.ur at or c.ose to the surfac. of growing nanopartic.es is important for fabric.ting reproduc.bly stellated or branc.ed gold nanopartic.es with prec.se c.ntrol over arm length and spatial orientation of arms around the *** employing a simple seed-mediated strategy,we investigate the key synthetic.variables for prec.se tuning of in situ surfac. proc.sses(c.mpetition between the deposition and surfac. diffusion).These variables inc.ude the reduc.ion rate of a reac.ion,the pac.ing density of molec.les/ions on the high surfac. energy fac.ts,and *** a result,the thermodynamic.lly stabilized nanopartic.es(c.boc.ahedron and trunc.ted c.be)and kinetic.produc.s(c.be,c.nc.ve c.be,oc.apod,stellated oc.ahedron,and rhombic.dodec.hedron)in different sizes with high quantitative shape yield(>80%)c.n be obtained depending on the reduc.ion rate of reac.ion and the pac.ing density of molec.les/*** c.mputer simulation,we studied the stability of stellated(branc.ed struc.ure)and non-stellated(non-branc.ed struc.ure)gold nanopartic.es at high *** c.nstruc. a morphology phase diagram by varying different synthetic.parameters,illustrating the formation of both stellated and non-stellated gold nanopartic.es in a range of reac.ion *** stellated gold nanopartic.es display shape-dependent optic.l properties and c.n be self-assembled into highly ordered superstruc.ures to ac.ieve an enhanc.d plasmonic.*** strategy c.n be applied to other metal systems,allowing for the rational design of advanc.d new stellated metal nanopartic.es with fasc.nating symmetry dependent plasmonic.c.talytic.and elec.ronic.properties for tec.nologic.l applic.tions.

Hydroxyapatite c.ramic. (HA) has been proved to be exc.llent in bioc.mpatibility and bioac.ivity. However, limited information is available c.nc.rning how HA c.ramic. affec.s the maturation of osteoblasts in molec.lar biologic.l level in vitro. This study examines the mRNA expression and protein produc.ion of bone-related genes in osteoblast-like c.ll line (Saos-2) c.ltured on HA disks. Saos-2 c.lls are seeded onto the substrates and c.ltured for 18 days. Harvested c.lls are tested for the c.ll growth rate, expression of mRNAs for osteoc.lc.n and alkaline phosphatase, and protein produc.ion of bone sialoprotein and osteoc.lc.n. MTS assay shows that c.ll proliferates well on HA c.ramic.substrate. After 9d, bone sialoprotein and osteoc.lc.n protein produc.ion in SaPS-2 inc.eases more on HA surfac.s than on c.ntrol material. As bone sialoprotein and osteoc.lc.n are the genes to be highly expressed at the late stage of osteoblast differentiation, this study reveals that after long time c.lture in HA, HA c.n induc. Saos-2 maturation. The behavior of Saos-2 on HA surfac.s revealed in this study provides valuable information for the understanding of the bioc.mpatibility and bioac.ivity of HA c.ramic..

BAc.GROUND Diabetes mellitus is a worldwide public.health problem assoc.ated with signific.nt c.mplic.tions. There is lac. of data on the quality of c.re of patients with diabetes, spec.fic.lly among the non-Western c.untries. Efforts have been made in Lebanon to better study the c.arac.eristic. of patients with diabetes mellitus in order to improve glyc.mic.c.ntrol and prevent late-term *** To investigate c.ntrol and therapeutic.management of patients with diabetes mellitus in the c.rrent medic.l prac.ic. in *** Wave 6 of the International Diabetes Management Prac.ic. Study in Lebanon is an international and multic.nter study involving selec.ed *** Only 1 patient with type 1 diabetes and 595 patients with type 2 diabetes were inc.uded in Wave 6. Average age was around 60 years, with a mean body mass index of 30. The mean fasting serum gluc.se was 159.42 mg/dL, and the mean glyc.sylated hemoglobin(HbA1 c. level was 7.98 with around 30% ac.ieving an HbA1 c.target of c.*** of diabetic.c.mplic.tions has improved over the years. A large perc.ntage is diagnosed with hypertension and dyslipidemia, the majority ofwhom were treated but only a small perc.ntage were *** Diabetes, with its assoc.ated dyslipidemia and hypertension, is still not very well c.ntrolled. Sc.eening for diabetes c.mplic.tions has improved over the *** need to have more proper c.re, and physic.ans need to follow diabetes guidelines, and to have a larger number of patients who have appropriate treatment of diabetes, hypertension and lipids.

A c.nvenient synthesis of intermediate 4,5-diamino-3-aryl-l-phenylpyrazoles 4a--4c.was reported. The different c.c.ization reac.ions were c.rried out with c.alc.ne, 2-merc.ptoac.tic.ac.d and p-anisialdehyde, ethyl c.loroformate, glyoxal and thiourea to afford different N and S c.ntaining heteroc.c.es. The reac.ion c.nditions were c.mpared by c.nventional heating and mic.owave irradiation. The struc.ures of the c.c.ization produc.s were de- termined by analytic.l and spec.rosc.pic.data. All the synthesized c.mpounds were sc.eened for antibac.erial ac.ivities in vitro.
