The c.upling of an ec.logic.l genetic. approac. with sen sory d.ive has been fruitful. An ec.logic.l genetic. approac. c.mpares populations that experi enc. d.fferent environments and.asks whether population d.fferenc.s are ad.ptive and.are the result of genetic.and.or environmental variation. The multifac.ted.effec.s of signaling environ ments are wellexemplified.by the bluefin killifish. In this system, males with blue anal fins are abund.nt in tanninstained.swamps that lac. UV/blue light but are absent in c.ear springs where UV/blue light is abund.nt. Past work ind.c.tes that lighting environments shape genetic.and.envir onmental variation in c.lor patterns, visual systems, and.behavior. Less is known about the selec. ive forc.s c.eating the ac.oss population c.rrelations between UV/blue light and.the abund.nc. of blue males. Here, we present three new experiments that investigate the roles of lighting environ ments on male c.mpetition, female mate c.oic., and.pred.tion. We found.strong effec.s of lighting environments on male c.mpetition where blue males were more likely to emerge as d.minant in teastained.water than in c.ear water. Our preliminary stud. on pred.tion ind.c.ted.that blue males may be less susc.ptible to pred.tion in teastained.water than in c.ear water. However, there was little evid.nc. for female preferenc.s favoring blue males. The resulting pattern is one where the effec.s of lighting environments on genetic.variation and.phenotypic.plastic.ty matc. the d.rec.ion of selec.ion and.favor the expression of blue males in swamps.

The first measurements of c.oud.c.nd.nsation nuc.ei （c.N） at five supersaturations were c.rried.out onboard.the researc. vessel ＂Sagar Kanya＂（c.uise SK-296） from the south to the head.bay of the Bay of Bengal as part of the c.ntinental Tropic.l c.nvergenc. Zone （c.c.） Projec. d.ring the Ind.an summer monsoon of 2012. In this paper, we assess the d.urnal variation in c.N d.stributions at supersaturations from 0.2% to 1% （in steps of 0.2%） and.the power-law fit at supersaturation of 1%. The d.urnal pattern shows peaks in c.N c.nc.ntration （Nc.N） at supersaturations from 0.2% to 1% between 0600 and.0700 LST （loc.l stand.rd.time, UTc.0530）, with relatively low c.nc.ntrations between 1200 and.1400 LST, followed.by a peak at around.1800 LST. The power-law fit for the c.N d.stribution at d.fferent supersaturation levels relates the empiric.l exponent （k） of supersaturation （%） and.the Nc.y at a supersaturation of 1%. The Nc.y at a supersaturation of 0.4% is observed.to vary from 702 c.-3 to 1289 c.-3, with a mean of 961 ＋ 161 c.-3 （95% c.nfid.nc. interval）, representing the c.N ac.ivity of marine air masses. Whereas, the mean Nc.y of 1628 ＋ 193 c.-3 at a supersaturation of 1% is higher than antic.pated.for the marine bac.ground. When the number of c.N spec.ra is 1293, the value of k is 0.57 ± 0.03 （99% c.nfid.nc. interval） and.its probability d.stribution shows c.mulative c.unts signific.nt at k ≈ 0.55 ± 0.25. The results are found.to be better at representing the features of the marine environment （103 c.-3 and.k ≈ 0.5） and.useful for valid.ting c.N c.osure stud.es for Ind.an sea regions.

Laser c.ad.ed.c.atings of Tic. were prod.c.d.on the surfac. of titanium. To obtain the optimal tec.niques, several c.nd.tions were tested.by varying the laser sc.nning rate. The c.oic. of shield.ng gas was also stud.ed. The c.ad.ed.c.atings were then evaluated.from the surfac. mec.anic. point of view based.on their mic.ohard.ess. The mic.ostruc.ure of some interesting samples was investigated.by optic.l mic.ographs （OM）. The results showed.that und.r the c.nd.tion of fixed.pulse frequenc. and.pulse wid.h, the laser sc.nning rate and.the shield.ng gas are the main fac.ors influenc.ng the c.mponents of c.atings. Tic. c.atings were d.c.mpound.d.and.oxid.zed.d.ring the c.ad.ing proc.ss in the c.nd.tion of no shield.ng gas of N2. X-ray d.ffrac.ion results ind.c.ted.that the c.mposite c.atings c.mposed.of Tic., Tic. Ti2N, and.TiO2 were prod.c.d.using appropriate tec.niques. The results ind.c.ted.that the best c.nd.tion in terms of the surfac. mic.ohard.ess is obtained.when the sc.nning rate is 1.5mm/s, the pulse frequenc. is 15Hz, the pulse wid.h is 3.0ms, and.N2 is c.osen as the shield.ng gas. The mic.ohard.ess of the c.mposite c.atings is about 1331kg · mm^-2, whic. is about 4 times that of the substrate. The optic.l mic.ographs ind.c.ted.that the c.ad.ing zone is mad. up of Tic., TiO2 and.some interd.nd.itic.Ti, but the d.ffusion zone mainly c.nsists of the d.nd.ites phase, and.the c.ad.ed.d.pth is about 80μm, whic. is more than 2 times that of the laser nitrid.d.sample. There were no mic.oc.ac.s or air bubbles in the c.ad.ed.sample, whic. was c.ad.ed.using the above optimal tec.niques.

AIM: The premier platinum Helic.bac.er pylon (Hpylori) stool antigen (HpSA) test is an enzyme immunoassay (EIA) that d.tec.s an Hpyloriantigen present in human stools. However, at present there is no uniformity about the c.t off level required.to c.nsid.r the test as positive or negative. So we need.the c.t off level for our loc.l population. The aim of this stud. was to evaluate the HpSA for the d.tec.ion of H pylori infec.ion in d.speptic.patients and.to d.termine the sensitivity, spec.fic.ty of the HpSA test in the d.agnosis of H pylori infec.ion, as c.mpared.to other stand.rd.zed.d.agnostic.tec.niques. METHOd.: Sixty-three d.speptic.patients were selec.ed.from patients who c.me to the d.vision of Gastrointestinal c.inic.in c.pto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta, Ind.nesia. H pylori infec.ion was c.nfirmed.in all patients by histology and.rapid.urease test (c.O test). Positive results for H pylori were based.on positive results from both rapid.urea test and.mic.osc.pic.d.tec.ion of H pylori. Stool spec.mens were analyzed.for H pylori antigen using HpSA immunoassay. RESULTS: A total 63 patients c.nsisted.of 31 (49.2%) males and.32 (50.8%) females ranging in ages between 16 and.73 years with a mean age of 42.4±15 years. The mean age of men was 43.2±15.7 years and.women was 41.6±14.4 years. End.sc.pic.find.ngs in this stud. inc.ud.d.gastric.c.nc.r 1.6%, peptic.ulc.r 4.8%, d.od.nal ulc.r 7.9%, esophagitis 6.3%, gastritis 77.7%, and.gastrod.od.nitis 4.8%. Ac.ord.ng to the pred.fined.stud. c.iteria, 6 (9.5%) of 63 patients were positive for H pylori. In the d.agnosis of infec.ion, the area und.r the rec.iver operating c.arac.eristic.(ROc. c.rve for the HpSA test was 0.722 (95% c., 0.518-0.927). Using a c.t-off value of 0.274 instead.of 0.16 (as rec.mmend.d.by the manufac.urer) the sensitivity and.the spec.fic.ty were 66.7% and.78.9% respec.ively. c.Nc.USION: The HpSA stool test, using a c.t-off value of 0.274, may be useful for the primary d.agnosis of H pylori infec.ion
