In this study,based on the dynamic Biot＇s theory ＂u-p＂ approximation,a 3D finite element method（FEM） numerical soil model is developed,in which the Generalized Newmark-β method is adopted to determine the time *** developed 3D FEM soil model is a part of the coupled model PORO-WSSI 3D for 3D wave-seabed-marine structures interaction problem,and is validated by the analytical solution proposed by Wang（2000） for a laterally infinite seabed loaded by a uniform *** adopting the developed 3D soil model,the consolidation of seabed under a caisson breakwater and hydrostatic pressure is *** numerical results show that the caisson breakwater built on seabed has very significant effect on the stresses/displacements fields in the seabed foundation after the transient deformation and primary consolidation are *** parametric study indicates that the Young＇s modulus E of seabed is the most important parameter to affect the settlement of breakwater,and the displacement fields in seabed *** the consolidation status as the initial condition,the interaction between ocean wave,caisson breakwater and seabed foundation is briefly *** 3D ocean wave is determined by solving the Navier-Stokes equations with finite volume method（FVM）.The numerical results indicate that there is intensive interaction between oceean wave, caisson breakwater and seabed foundation; and the breakwater indeed can effectively block the wave energy propagating to the coastline.

The present work shows that the addition of small volume fractions of multi-walled carbon nanotubes （cNTs） to the matrix results in a significant increase in the high-cycle fatigue life. It is proposed that carbon nanotubes tend to inhibit the formation of large cracks by nucleating nano-scale damage zones. In addition, the contribution to energy absorption from the fracture of nanotubes bridging across nano-scale cracks and from nanotube pull-out from the matrix are mechanisms that can improve the fatigue life. An energy-based model was proposed to estimate the additional strain energy absorbed in fatigue. The distributed nanotubes in the matrix appear to both distribute damage as well as inhibit damage propagation resulting in an overall improvement in the fatigue strength of glass fiber composites.

cold-formed steel structures are steel structure products constructed from sheets or coils using cold rolling, press brake or bending brake method. These structures are extensively employed in building construction industry due to their light mass, ductility by economic cold forming operations, favorable strength-to-mass ratio and other factors. The utilization of cold formed steel sections with concrete as composite can hugely reduce the construction cost. however, the use of cold formed steel members in composite concrete beams has been very limited. A comprehensive review of developments in composite beam with cold formed steel sections was introduced. It was revealed that employing cold-formed steel channel section to replace reinforcement bars in conventional reinforced concrete beam results in a significant cost reduction without reducing strength capacity. The use of composite beam consisting of cold-formed steel open or close box and filled concrete could also reduce construction cost. Lighter composite girder for bridges with cold-formed steel of U section was introduced. Moreover, types of shear connectors to provide composite action between cold-formed steel beam and concrete slab were presented. however, further studies to investigate the effects of metal decking on the behavior of composite beam with cold-formed steel section and introduction of ductile shear connectors were recommended.

The current healthcare system in hong Kong is experiencing pressure due to constrained resources,with dramatic increases in inpatient services queue lengths,dissatisfaction with the working environment,unacceptable workforce arrangements and high turnover rate of hospital *** maintain the robustness of the healthcare system and a sustainable inpatients flow,the Food and health Bureau launched a public-private partnership programme to utilise the resources of the public and private *** research investigates the potential for extension of the programme and further enhancing the sustainability of the long-term inpatient services under a mixed public-private healthcare policy via system dynamic *** findings show that an increase of human resources in public hospitals does not substantially improve inpatient flow rate ***,the results from the system dynamic approach provide insights into the expansion of the service areas of the programme and suggest increasing the number of referrals to private hospitals.

Silicon quantum dots(Si QDs) were grown in situ in Sic:h/a-c:h hetero-multilayer films at a low substrate temperature using a radio frequency(13.56Mhz) plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition(PEcVD) *** component and bonding configuration of the Sic:h/a-c:h hetero-multilayer films have been systematically investigated by Raman, FTIR and hRTEM testing *** results show that there are amorphous Si QDs in Sic:h/a-c:h hetero-multilayer *** high temperature post-deposition annealing treatments, as increasing ch flow rate, the coexistence of amorphous Si QDs and silicon nanocrystals in Sic:h matrix layers has been confirmed by Raman and hRTEM measurements.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV–Vis spectrometry measurements show that the a-c:h layer is mainly consisted of the sp-bonded and sp-bonded carbon atoms and its optical band gap is 1.63 *** obtained experimental results are meaningful to develop a method for the in situ formation of Si QDs and to reduce the barrier height between Si QDs and barrier layer in vertical direction by replacing Sic barrier layer in the Sic/Sic multilayer films structure with the a-c:h layer.

The electroreduction of cO2 to valuable chemicals and fuels offers an effective mean for energy *** cO2 has been efficiently converted into c1 products(e.g.,carbon monoxide,formic acid,methane and methanol),its convention into high value-added multicarbon hydrocarbons with high selectivity and activity still remains *** we demonstrate the formation of multi-shelled cuO microboxes for the efficient and selective electrocatalytic cO2 reduction to *** a structure favors the accessibility of catalytically active sites,improves adsorption of reaction intermediate(cO),inhibits the diffusion of produced Oh−and promotes c-c coupling *** to these unique advantages,the multi-shelled cuO microboxes can effectively convert cO2 into c2h4 with a maximum faradaic efficiency of 51.3%in 0.1 M *** work provides an effective way to improve cO2 reduction efficiency via constructing micro-and nanostructures of electrocatalysts.

Two quantitative structure-property relationship （QSPR） models were developed to correlate radical chemical structure and the reactivity parameters u and v, respectively, of the revised patterns scheme for the prediction of monomers reactivity ratios. The radicals with structure c1h3--c2hR3· （formed from c1h2=c2hR3 and ho） were calculated using the UB3LYP density functional theory （DFF） methods with a 6-31G（d） basis set. The calculated quantum chemical descriptors were used to construct QSPR models for the reactivity parameters （u, v） by applying the genetic algorithm （GA） method, together with multiple linear regression （MLR） analysis. correlation coeffi- cients for the training sets are 0.941 for the parameter u and 0.947 for the parameter v; correlation coefficients for the test sets are 0.947 for u and 0.934 for v. The results suggest that calculating quantum chemical descriptors from radicals to develop models for parameters u and v is feasible.

A simple and cost-effective method has been developed for the fabrication of microtubular solid oxide fuel cells (MT-SOFcs). highly asymmetric electrolyte hollow fibers composed of a thin dense skin layer and a thick porous substrate are first prepared by a modified phase inversion/sintering technique. The porous substrate is then formed into the anode by deposition of a Ni catalyst via an electroless plating method inside the pores while the thin dense skin layer serves directly as the electrolyte film of the fuel cells. A porous cathode layer is produced on the outer surface of the Ni-deposited hollow fibers by slurry coating and subsequent sintering to form a complete micro tubular fuel cell. The process has been employed to fabricate yttrium stabilized zirconia (YSZ) supported Ni-YSZ-YSZ-La0.6Sr0.4co0.2Fe0.8O3-(LScF) microtubular fuel cells. The maximum output of the resulting cells is 159.6 mW cm-2 at 800 °c when using h2 as the fuel feed and air as the oxidant.
