First report of L1014F kdr mutation in culex quinquefasciatus in Mexico

The L1014F mutation in the voltage-sodium channel gene has been associated with resistance to DDT and pyrethroids in various arthropod species including mosquitoes. We determined the frequency of the L1014F kdr mutation in 16 field populations of culex quinquefasciatus from Northeastern Mexico collected between 2008 and 2013. The L1014F was present in all populations analyzed with the lowest frequency （3.33%） corresponding to the population from Monclova collected in 2012, and the highest frequency （63.63%） from the Monterrey population collected in 2012. The presence of a kdr mutation in populations of cx. quinquefasciatus from northeastern Mexico provides evidence ofpyrethroid resistance. This requires a special attention, considering that pyrethroid-based insecticides are commonly used in vector-control campaigns, especially against Aedes aegypti （L.）.

AIM To compare the prevalence of chronic liver disease(cLD) risk factors in a representative sample of MexicanAmericans born in the United States(US) or Mexico, to a sample of adults in *** Data for Mexican-Americans in the US were obtained from the 1999-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(NHANES), which includes persons of Mexican origin living in the US(n = 4274). The NHANES sample was restricted to Mexican-American participants who were 20 years and older, born in the US or Mexico, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and with medical *** data in Mexico were obtained from the 2004-2013 Health Worker cohort Study in cuernavaca, Mexico(n =9485). The following known risk factors for liver disease/cancer were evaluated: elevated aminotransferase levels(elevated alanine aminotransferase was defined as > 40 IU/L for males and females; elevated aspartate aminotransferase was defined as > 40 IU/L for males and females), infection with hepatitis B or hepatitis c,metabolic syndrome, high total cholesterol, diabetes,obesity, abdominal obesity, and heavy alcohol use. The main independent variables for this study classified individuals by country of residence(i.e., Mexico vs the US) and place of birth(i.e., US-born vs Mexico-born).Regression analyses were used to investigate cLD risk *** After adjusting for socio-demographic characteristics,Mexican-American males were more likely to be obese,diabetic, heavy/binge drinkers or have abdominal obesity than males in Mexico. The adjusted multivariate results for females also indicate that Mexican-American females were significantly more likely to be obese, diabetic, be heavy/binge drinkers or have abdominal obesity than Mexican females. Sleeve gastrectomy(SG) is a restrictive bariatric surgery technique that was first used as part of restrictive horizontal gastrectomy in the original Scopinaro type biliopancreatic diversion. Its good results as a single technique have led to a rise in its use, and it is currently the second most performed technique worldwide. SG achieves clearly better results than other restrictive techniques and is comparable in some aspects to the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the current gold standard in bariatric surgery. These benefits have been associated with different pathophysiologic mechanisms unrelated to weight loss such as increased gastric emptying and intestinal transit, and activation of hormonal mechanisms such as increased GLP-1 hormone and decreased ghrelin. The aim of this review was to highlight the salient aspects of SG regarding its historical evolution, pathophysiologic mechanisms, main results, clinical applications and perioperative complications.

AIM: To demographically and clinically characterize inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) from the local registry and update data previously published by our ***: A descriptive study of a cohort based on a registry of patients aged 15 years or older who were diagnosed with IBD and attended the IBD program at clínica Las condes in Santiago, chile. The registry was created in April 2012 and includes patients registered up to October 2015. The information was anonymously downloaded in a monthly report, and the information on patients with more than one visit was updated. The registry includes demographic, clinical and disease characteristics, including the Montreal classification, medical treatment, surgeries and hospitalizations for crisis. Data regarding infection with clostridium difficile (c. difficile) were incorporated in the registry in 2014. Data for patients who received consultations as second opinions and continued treatment at this institution were also ***: The study included 716 patients with IBD: 508 patients (71%) were diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (Uc), 196 patients (27%) were diagnosed with crohn’s disease (cD) and 12 patients (2%) were diagnosed with unclassifiable IBD. The Uc/cD ratio was 2.6/1. The median age was 36 years (range 16-88), and 58% of the patients were female, with a median age at diagnosis of 29 years (range 5-76). In the past 15 years, a sustained increase in the number of patients diagnosed with IBD was observed, where 87% of the patients were diagnosed between the years 2001 and 2015. In the cohort examined in the present study, extensive colitis (50%) and colonic involvement (44%) predominated in the patients with Uc and cD, respectively. In cD patients, non-stricturing/non-penetrating behavior was more frequent (80%), and perianal disease was observed in 28% of the patients. coronavirus disease 2019(cOvID-19)is a disease produced by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(sarS-cov-2)and it is currently causing a catastrophic pandemic affecting humans *** disease has been lethal for approximately 3.12 million people around the world since January ***,among the most affected countries,Mexico ranks third in deaths after the United States of America and *** the high number of deceased people might also be explained by social aspects and lifestyle customs in Mexico,there is a relationship between this high proportion of deaths and comorbidities such as high blood pressure(HBP),type 2 diabetes,obesity,and metabolic *** official epidemiological figures reported by the Mexican government have indicated that 18.4%of the population suffers from HBP,close to 10.3%of adults suffer from type 2 diabetes,and approximately 36.1%of the population suffers from *** in the gut microbiota(GM)have been associated with these diseases and with cOvID-19 severity,presumably due to inflammatory *** data about the association between GM dysbiosis and metabolic diseases could suggest that the high levels of susceptibility to sarScov-2 infection and cOvID-19 morbidity in the Mexican population are primarily due to the prevalence of type 2 diabetes,obesity,and metabolic syndrome.

Traditional treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has focused on correcting hyperglycemia. However, T2DM is almost always accompanied by other conditions and risk factors that affect its morbidity and mortality. Obesity represents one of the main risk factors associated in the T2DM and a modest weight loss around 5% is linked with significant reduction in the blood glucose levels. The objective of this study was to compare the pharmacokinetic parameters between two formulations of metformin, alone or combined with orlistat, in healthy volunteers. A single-blinded, single dose, two-period, two-sequence, crossover, randomized and balanced study design with a 7-day washout period was performed in 26 Mexican volunteers. Plasma samples were collected over a 24-hour period after administration of 500 mg metformin alone or combined with 60 mg orlistat in each period. A validated high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with a ultraviolet detector was used to analyze metformin concentration in plasma. Bioequivalence between metformin alone and metformin combined with orlistat was determined when the ratio for the 90% confidence intervals (cI) of area under the curve (AUc24h) and maximum concentration (cmax) of the two formulations were within 80% and 125%. In the current study, the mean ± standard deviation (SD) of cmax, AUc24h and AUc∞ of the formulation containing only metformin were 1.39 ± 0.44 μg/mL, 7.59 ± 3.17 μg h/mL and 8.48 ± 4.13 μg h/mL, respectively, while the mean ± SD of cmax, AUc24h and AUc∞ of the formulation containing metformin and orlistat were 1.38 ± 0.48 μg/mL, 7.80 ± 2.83 μg h/mL and 9.13 ± 4.29 μg h/mL, respectively. The parametric 90% cI for cmax and AUc24h were 87.5-109.3 and 88.7-124.7, respectively. These results suggest that both formulations are bioequivalent and there is not pharmacokinetic interaction between metformin and orlistat.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the genotoxicity induced by cyclophosphamide-adriamycin treatment in breast cancer patients through the frequencies of Sister chromatid Exchange (ScE), Replication Index (RI), Mitotic Index (MI) and cell Proliferation Index (cPI) and to study the possible association between biomarkers of genotoxicity and the early response to treatment. The frequencies were obtained before and immediately after therapy from 17 patients with breast cancer (p cPI had high values after treatment in women with active cancers compared to those in a state of remission, however there were not significant differences. conclusions: It is possible that MI y cPI biomarkers can serve as indicators for early assessment of treatment with cyclophosphamide-adriamycin. It should be noted that these are preliminary results and further study is necessary.
