Silk-based nerve guidance conduits with macroscopic holes modulate the vascularization of regenerating rat sciatic nerve

Peripheral nerve injuries induce a severe motor and sensory deficit. Since the availability of autologous nerve transplants for nerve repair is very limited, alternative treatment strategies are sought, including the use of tubular nerve guidance conduits(tNGcs). However, the use of tNGcs results in poor functional recovery and central necrosis of the regenerating tissue, which limits their application to short nerve lesion defects(typically shorter than 3 cm). Given the importance of vascularization in nerve regeneration, we hypothesized that enabling the growth of blood vessels from the surrounding tissue into the regenerating nerve within the tNGc would help eliminate necrotic processes and lead to improved regeneration. In this study, we reported the application of macroscopic holes into the tubular walls of silk-based tNGcs and compared the various features of these improved silk^(+) tNGcs with the tubes without holes(silk^(–) tNGcs) and autologous nerve transplants in an 8-mm sciatic nerve defect in rats. Using a combination of micro-computed tomography and histological analyses, we were able to prove that the use of silk^(+) tNGcs induced the growth of blood vessels from the adjacent tissue to the intraluminal neovascular formation. A significantly higher number of blood vessels in the silk^(+) group was found compared with autologous nerve transplants and silk^(–), accompanied by improved axon regeneration at the distal coaptation point compared with the silk^(–) tNGcs at 7 weeks postoperatively. In the 15-mm(critical size) sciatic nerve defect model, we again observed a distinct ingrowth of blood vessels through the tubular walls of silk^(+) tNGcs, but without improved functional recovery at 12 weeks postoperatively. Our data proves that macroporous tNGcs increase the vascular supply of regenerating nerves and facilitate improved axonal regeneration in a short-defect model but not in a critical-size defect model. Sq (H) Solar Variation at Yaoundé-cameroon AMBER Station from 2011 to 2014

This paper presents the earth’s magnetic field variations on quiet days using data from 2011 to 2014 provided by the AMBER station located at the University of Yaoundé 1 (cameroon), whose geographic and geomagnetic coordinates are respectively: (3.87°N, 11.52°E) and (5.8°S, 83.1°E). The variability of the H horizontal component of the Earth’s magnetic field was examined using the North (X) and East (Y) components of the earth’s magnetic field. The H component is then used to calculate and analyze the diurnal, monthly and seasonal Solar quiet variations Sq (H) observed in Yaoundé-cameroon during quiet magnetic days. The results obtained show that the Sq (H) variations are seasonal. e.g., in Spring the Sq (H) amplitude (~72 nT) is larger than that of Autumn (~69 nT). The maximum values of Sq (H) vary from 48.8 nT to 57.12 nT in summer and from 41 nT to 60 nT in winter from the years 2011 to 2014. In general, these maximum values are observed around 12:00 and 13:00 in local time. These results show that the morphology of Sq (H) in Yaoundé is presented as a function of seasons. Moreover, the Sq (H) values are negative during morning hours (01:00 - 06:00) and afternoon hours (18:00 - 24:00) in local time throughout all months and all seasons. This significant negative excursion of Sq (H) in Yaoundé during the night time might be due to other physical processes such as storms or thunderclouds or to the existence of a strong induced current in Yaoundé which can affect the ground-based instruments. By referring to the solar cycle 24, our results show that the Sq (H) amplitude varies with the solar activity. The aim of this work is to analyze the diurnal, monthly and seasonal variations of Sq (H) observed in Yaoundé from 2011 to 2014.

A highly-sensitive automatic transient laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy （LIBS） system is designed and integrated. It successfully avoids the delay time selecting problem in the conventional LIBS system, and realizes the LIBS data acquisition with high spatiotemporal resolution automatically. Multiple transient spectra can be obtained in each measurement, which will provide more information for spectral research. The water-vapour and liquid-water Raman scattering spectra are captured by this system, and the comparison of experimental water-vapour Raman scattering spectrum with theoretical data verifies the reliability of the LIBS system. Based on this system, the air laser induced air breakdown spectra are captured and analysed. The system is also useful for the research on water-vapour Raman Lidar remote sensing.

Antioxidant Effects of Alperujo Extract (Arbequina and Frantoio Varieties) on MIN6 β-cells Subjected to Stress with Glucose or H2O2

Alperujo, an antioxidant-rich by-product of olive oil extraction, could protect β-cells against oxidative damage. Our goal was to study the antioxidant effects of an alperujo extract (AE) on MIN6 β-cells challenged with glucose or hydrogen peroxide. MIN6 β-cells were challenged with glucose (100 mM) or H2O2 (0.15 mM), with or without AE (20 μM phenol). Reactive oxygen species, intracellular iron (Fe), insulin, glucose uptake, and mRNA gene expression of Uncoupling Protein-2 (UcP-2), Thioredoxin (TRDX), p47phox, and the ratio Bax/Bcl-2 were measured. ROS increased when the stressors were incubated with AE (p ctively). Intracellular Fe increased in glucose presence (100 mM p cretion improved when cells were pre-incubated with AE (p cose uptake increased when cells were pre-incubated with AE for 3 days and then further treated with glucose (p cP-2 and TRDX increased (p creased. The Bax/Bcl-2 ratio tended to decrease in the samples pre-incubated with AE. The Alperujo extract,in vitro, had a pro-oxidant behavior, however pre-incubating MIN6 β-cells with AE tended to protect them against apoptosis, thereby enhancing insulin secretion.

Aim:to analyze the significance of RTI Tier 2 metaphonological and alphabetic principle program for Brazilian schoolchildren at risk for ***:a bibliographic review was carried out in the Scielo and Pubmed databases using the descriptors“intervention studies”,“reading”,“dyslexia”,and“learning”in Portuguese and English for the elaboration of RTI Tier 2 metaphonological and alphabetic principle program for schoolchildren at risk for *** program was designed based on the selection of strategies for metaphonological skills,knowledge of the alphabet,and grapheme-phoneme correspondence described in national and international *** stimuli(real words)and visual stimuli(pictures)were selected to be used in the intervention program *** stimuli were selected from a word bank according to length,regularity,and *** intervention program designed was composed of the following skills:letter-sound knowledge,syllable knowledge,syllabic segmentation,phonemic segmentation,syllabic addition,phonemic addition,syllabic subtraction,phonemic subtraction,syllabic substitution,phonemic substitution,syllabic combination,and phonemic *** program was structured with collective strategies and was applied in small groups of four to five schoolchildren aged six years and 11 months to seven years and 11 months in 50-minute ***:The results revealed that there was a change in the response pattern,showing better performance in the skills of the Early Identification of Reading Problems Protocol,demonstrating significance and positive change in post-testing situations when compared to ***:the program developed in this study proved to be effective and,in this way,it can be used as an intervention instrument based on scientific evidence that helps in the acquisition of skills necessary for the development of reading.

Identifcation of the Phosphorylated Residues in TveIF5A by Mass Spectrometry

The initiation factor elF5A in Trichomonas vaginalis （TvelF5A） is previously shown to undergo hypusination, phosphorylation and glycosylation. Three different pI isoforms of TvelF5A have been reported. The most acidic isoform （pI 5.2） corresponds to the precursor TvelF5A, whereas the mature TvelF5A appears to be the most basic isoform （pI 5.5）. In addition, the intermediary isoform （pI 5.3） is found only under polyamine-depleted conditions and restored with exogenous putrescine. We propose that differences in PI are due to phosphorylation of the TvelF5A isoforms. Here, we have identified phosphorylation sites using mass spectrometry. The mature TvelF5A contains four phosphorylated residues （$3, T55, T78 and T82）. Phosphorylation at $3 and T82 is also identified in the intermediary TvelF5A, while no phosphorylated residues are found in the precursor TvelF5A. It has been demonstrated that elF5A proteins from plants and yeast are phosphorylated by a casein kinase 2 （cK2）. Interestingly, a gene encoding a protein highly similar to cK2 （TvcK2） is found in T. vaginalis, which might be involved in the phosphorylation of TvelF5A in T. vaginalis.

In this report,we show that hyperspectral high-resolution photoluminescence mapping is a powerful tool for the selection and optimiz1ation of the laser ablation processes used for the patterning interconnections of subcells on cu(Inx,Ga1-x)Se2(cIGS)*** this way,we show that in-depth monitoring of material degradation in the vicinity of the ablation region and the identification of the underlying mechanisms can be ***,by analyzing the standard P1 patterning line ablated before the cIGS deposition,we reveal an anomalous emission-quenching effect that follows the edge of the molybdenum groove *** further rationalize the origins of this effect by comparing the topography of the P1 edge through a scanning electron microscope(SEM)cross-section,where a reduction of the photoemission cannot be explained by a thickness *** also investigate the laser-induced damage on P1 patterning lines performed after the deposition of *** then document,for the first time,the existence of a short-range damaged area,which is independent of the application of an optical aperture on the laser *** findings pave the way for a better understanding of P1-induced power losses and introduce new insights into the improvement of current strategies for industry-relevant module interconnection schemes.

Different options of endosonography-guided biliary drainage after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography failure

AIM To investigate the success rates of endosonography(EUS)-guided biliary drainage(EUS-BD) techniques after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERcP) failure for management of biliary *** From Feb/2010 to Dec/2016, ERcP was performed in 3538 patients, 24 of whom(0.68%) suffered failure to cannulate the biliary tree. All of these patients were initially submitted to EUS-guided rendez-vous(EUS-RV) by means of a transhepatic approach. In case of failure, the next approach was an EUS-guided anterograde stent insertion(EUS-ASI) or an EUS-guided hepaticogastrostomy(EUS-HG). If a transhepatic approach was not possible or a guidewire could not be passed through the papilla, EUS-guided choledochoduodenostomy(EUS-cD) was *** Patients were submitted to EUS-RV(7), EUS-ASI(5), EUS-HG(6), and EUS-cD(6). Success rates did not differ among the various EUS-BD techniques. Overall,technical and clinical success rates were 83.3% and 75%, respectively. Technical success for each technique was, 71.4%, 100%, 83.3%, and 83.3%, respectively(P = 0.81). complications occurred in 3(12.5%) patients. All of these cases were managed conservatively, but one patient died after rescue percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage(PTBD).cONcLUSION The choice of a particular EUS-BD technique should be based on patient's anatomy and on whether the guidewire could be passed through the duodenal papilla.
