A Simple Method for the Fabrication of Metallic Copper NanospheresDecorated Cellulose Nanofiber Composite

Herein, we report a new and simple method for the preparation of metallic copper nanospheres- decorated cellulose nanofiber composite （CuNSsJCNFs）. Initially, the cellulose acetate nanofibers （CANFs） were electrospun followed by deacetylation and anionization to produce functional anionic cellulose nanofibers ff-CNFs）. The CuCl2 precursor was deposited on thef-CNFs （CuC12/CNFs） by a simple dipping method. Then the CuCIdCNFs were reduced under vacuum by using aluminum foil to produce the CuNSs/ CNFs. The resultant CuNSs/CNFs composite was characterized by various microscopic and spectroscopic methods. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FT-IR） confirmed the successful functionalization of anionic groups with the CNFs. The field emission scanning electron microscopy （FE-SEM） and transmission electron microscope （TEM） results confirmed the formation of CuNSs on the surface of CNFs. From the scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy （SEM-EDS） analysis, the weight percentage of Cu was found to be 23.5 wt%. The successful reduction of CuO to metallic Cu was confirmed by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy （XPS） and X-ray diffraction （XRD） analyses. Mechanism has been proposed for the formation of metallic Cu sphere on CNFs.

In this work,we have prepared the hierarchically nanostructured core–shell NiCo layered double hydroxide(NiCo-LDH)nanosheets-and ZnFe_(2)O_(4) nanocubes-decorated polyacrylonitrile(PAN)/pitch-based carbon nanofibers(PPCNs)webs(NiCo-LDH@PPCNs as cathode and ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@PPCNs as anode materials)with the bonded network structure by a facile and scalable hydrothemal ***,the low-cost pitch with lower softening point(~90℃)as co-precursor was utilized to produce the PAN/pitch-based carbon nanofibers(PPCNs)with enhanced electrical *** obtained PPCNs with pitch content of 30%(PP30CNs)electrode material delivered higher specific capacitance(~67 F g^(-1))than that(~48 F g^(-1))of the PAN-based carbon nanofibers(PCNs)at 1 A g^(-1),due to the increased electrical conductivity and lower interfacial charge transfer resistance(RCT)of~0.16 ***,the NiCo-LDH-decorated PP30CNs(NiCoLDH@PP30CNs)as cathode material showed superior specific capacitance of 1162 F g^(-1) at 1.0 A g^(-1) and ultra-high retention rate of 91.56%at 10 A g^(-1).The ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@PP30CNs as anode material also showed higher specific capacitance of 282 F g^(-1) at 1 A g^(-1) and good rate capability with capacitance retention of 56.73%at 10 A g^(-1).The as-fabricated asymmetric NiCo-LDH@PP30CNs//ZnFe_(2)O_(4)@PP30CNs hybrid supercapacitor device delivered a specific capacitance of~98 F g^(-1) at 1 A g^(-1) and excellent capacitance retention of~88%after 5000 charge–discharge cycles.

Self-Assembled Core-Shell Poly(ethylene glycol)-POSS Nanocarriers for Drug Delivery

In this work, novel nanostructured core-shell poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-polyhedral oligosilsesquioxane (POSS) nanoparticles were used to encapsulate insulin as new drug delivery carriers. The morphologies, particle size and ζ potential of the pure nanostructured core-shell PEG-POSS and the corresponding insulin-loaded PEG-POSS nanoparticles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and laser diffraction particle sizer. TEM analysis demonstrated that pure and insulin-loaded self-assembled PEG-POSS nanoparticles were of spherical shape with core-shell nanostructure, and were well-dispersed and uniform in size distribution. Insulin release test showed that insulin was well-protected inside PEG-POSS nanoparticles at gastric pH for 2hrs, and was released at intestinal pH (pH 6-7) where the absorption and activation of the drug are necessary. We therefore believe that such nanostructured PEG-POSS nanoparticles could be useful as a potential carrier for insulin drug delivery systems.

Cells Attachment Property of PVA Hydrogel Nanofibers Incorporating Hyaluronic Acid for Tissue Engineering

In this work, we report the fabrication and cell affinity studies of the poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/hyaluronic acid (HA) cross-linked nanofibers via electrospinning and post cross-linking. FT-IR and TGA analysis demonstrate that HA is not influenced by acid environment such as HCl vapor during cross-linking, and well incorporated into PVA nanofibers. Swelling behavior and cell adhesion of the PVA/HA hydrogel nanofibers are investigated and compared with pure PVA hydrogel nanofibers. It is expected that the nanofibrous PVA/HA hydrogel fibers could be a promising scaffold for cell culture and tissue engineering applications.
