All animals possess a plethora of innate behaviors that do not require extensive learning and are fundamental for their survival and *** the advent of newly-developed techniques such as viral tracing and optogenetic and chemogenetic tools,recent studies are gradually unraveling neural circuits underlying different innate ***,we summarize current development in our understanding of the neural circuits controlling predation,feeding,male-typical mating,and urination,highlighting the role of genetically defined neurons and their connections in sensory triggering,sensory to motor/motivation transformation,motor/motivation encoding during these different *** the way,we discuss possible mechanisms underlying binge-eating disorder and the pro-social effects of the neuropeptide oxytocin,elucidating the clinical relevance of studying neural circuits underlying essential innate ***,we discuss some exciting brain structures recurrently appearing in the regulation of different behaviors,which suggests both divergence and convergence in the neural encoding of specific innate *** forward,we emphasize the importance of multi-angle and cross-species dissections in delineating neural circuits that control innate behaviors.

In Vitro Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Activities of 18 Plants from the Erkowit Region,Eastern Sudan

We investigated the antioxidant potential and cytotoxicity towards human CCRF-CEM leukemia cells of 57 extracts obtained from 18 plants collected in the Erkowit region,eastern *** antioxidant activity was determined by measuring the radical scavenging effects against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)and N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylendi-amine(DMPD),metal-chelation capacity,ferric-reducing(FRAP)and phosphomolibdenum-reducing antioxidant power(PRAP)methods using ELISA microtiter *** phenol and flavonoid amounts of the extracts were determined *** towards CCRF-CEM cells was evaluated by the resazurin reduction *** favosum followed by Kalanchoe glaucescens,Malva parviflora,Aizoon canariense,and Coleus barbatus,respectively,possessed the highest antioxidant activity among the studied *** oblongifolia and *** exerted considerable cytotoxicity against CCRF-CEM leukemia *** plants may serve as source for the further development of natural antioxidant and antitumor agents.

Benign Giant Cell Tumor of the Foot Originating from Talonavicular Joint

Benign Giant Cell Tumor is a relatively common benign lesion which usually appears as an enlarging painless mass and has a synovial origin. Although benign giant cell tumors generally involve tendon sheaths, they are infrequently documented in the foot. A 45 years old female presented with a complaint of a lump on the top of her left foot. Under general anesthesia with a pneumatic tourtniquet the mass excised with great care not to leave any residual tumor tissue that can cause recurrence. Benign giant cell tumor of the foot can be associated with talonavicular joint capsule which can be detected with MRI imaging and total excision of the lesion is mandatory to prevent recurrence.

Hydatid cyst of the pancreas:Report of an undiagnosed case of pancreatic hydatid cyst and brief literature review

AIM: To overview the literature on pancreatic hydatid cyst(PHC) disease, a disease frequently misdiagnosed during preoperative radiologic ***: PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar, and Google databases were searched to identify articles related to PHC using the following keywords: hydatid cyst, hydatid disease, unusual location of hydatid cyst, hydatid cyst and pancreas, pancreatic hydatid cyst, and pancreatic echinococcosis. The search included let-ters to the editor, case reports, review articles, original articles, meeting presentations and abstracts that had been published between January 2010 and April 2014 without any restrictions on language, journal, or country. All articles identified and retrieved which contained adequate information on the study population(including patient age and sex) and disease and treatment related data(such as cyst size, cyst location, and clinical man-agement) were included in the study; articles with in-sufficient demographic and clinical data were excluded. In addition, we evaluated a case of a 48-year-old fe-male patient with PHC who was treated in our ***: A total of 58 patients, including our one new case,(age range: 4 to 70 years, mean ± SD: 31.4 ± 15.9 years) were included in the analysis. Twenty-nine of the patients were female, and 29 were male. The information about cyst location was available from studies involving 54 patients and indicated the follow-ing distribution of locations: pancreatic head(n = 21), pancreatic tail(n = 18), pancreatic body and tail(n = 8), pancreatic body(n = 5), pancreatic head and body(n = 1), and pancreatic neck(n = 1). Extra-pancreatic locations of hydatid cysts were reported in the studies involving 44 of the patients. Among these, no other focus than pancreas was detected in 32 of the patients(isolated cases) while 12 of the patients had hydatid cysts in extra-pancreatic sites(liver: n = 6, liver + spleen + peritoneum: n = 2, kidney: n = 1, liver + kidney: n = 1, kidn

Premature newborn with intracardiac fungus balls and endocarditis which is curable only with anti-fungal therapy: Case presentation

Invasive fungal infections often caused by Candida species are infections which have high morbidity and mortality rates in newborn infants. 5% of the cases have also concomitant endocarditis and this causes mortality rates over 60%. Thus it has vital importance to diagnose and treat these patients with endocarditis in early stages. Most preferred treatment option is a surgical incision in addition to systemic anti-fungal therapy. Here we presented an extremely low birth weight, premature newborn with endocarditis caused by Candida tropicalis and cured solely by systemic anti-fungal treatment without the need for surgical intervention.

Introduction: Although Brucellosis has a limited geographic distribution;it remains a challenge in certain parts of the world such as in Mediterranean, western Asian, Latin American and African regions. We present a unique case of periacetabular Brucella osteomyelitis and increase awareness of possible widespread distrubition of Brucella osteomyelitis and its ability to affect any region of the musculoskeletal system. Case Presentation: A 44-year-old male farmer presented with symptoms of pain radiating from his left hip to his thigh of five years duration. There was a history of night sweats and fever for the past two months. A lytic area with smooth borders in left periacetabular region was detected on pelvic roentgenography of the patient. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a cavitatory lesion in relation to hip joint. Open biopsy was undertaken with the differential diagnosis of an infectious (Brucella or Tuberculous) or tumoral lesion. Intraoperative frozen sections showed granulomatous inflammatory tissue. Post debridement, the cavity was filled with autograft taken from the patient’s right iliac wing. Postoperative immunohistochemistry confirmed diagnosis of Brucella osteomyelitis. Oral Doxycyline, Rifampicine and Ciprofloxacin were administered for 3 months. At one-year postoperatively, the patient had a painless, unrestricted range of motion and function in relation to the affected hip. Conclusion: In endemic regions, Brucella osteomyelitis should be considered in differential diagnosis in patients with arthralgia and/or spondylodiscitis in the presence of radiologically suspected osseous lesions.

Acute rheumatic fever (ARF) is an inflammatory disease that occurs following an infection with certain strains of group A beta-hemolytic streptococci. Despite dramatic falls in the incidence, Acute Rheumatic Fever remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality associated with acquired heart disease in developing countries. Infective endocarditis (IE) is defined as a microbial infection of the endothelial surface of the heart. IE occurs most frequently in patients with chronic rheumatic heart disease. As far as we know, the simultaneous occurrence of both conditions has not been previously reported. References to our outpatient clinic with complaints of fever and joint pain, clinical and laboratory findings suggestive of infective endocarditis fits both with both the ARF and remitted entirely with appropriate treatment, as far as we know, we think that this is not a case of our similar event in the literature. Here we present a case of a fifteen-year-old girl with concurrent acute rheumatic fever and infective endocarditis.

Kefir treatment ameliorates dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis in rats

AIM: To investigate the preventive effect of kefir on colitis induced with dextran sulfate sodium(DSS) in ***: Twenty-four male Wistar-albino rats were randomized into four groups: normal control,kefircontrol,colitis,and kefir-colitis groups. Rats in the normal and kefir-control groups were administered tap water as drinking water for 14 d. Rats in the colitis and kefir-colitis groups were administered a 3% DSS solution as drinking water for 8-14 d to induce colitis. Rats in the kefir-control and kefir-colitis groups were administered 5 m L kefir once a day for 14 d while rats in the normal control and colitis group were administered an identical volume of the placebo(skim milk) using an orogastric feeding tube. Clinical colitis was evaluated with reference to the disease activity index(DAI),based on daily weight loss,stool consistency,and presence of bleeding in feces. Rats were sacrificed on the 15 th day,blood specimens were collected,and colon tissues were rapidly removed. Levels of myeloperoxidase(MPO),tumor necrosisfactor(TNF)-α,interleukin(IL)-10,malondialdehyde,and inducible nitric oxide synthase(i NOS) were measured in colon ***: The DAI was lower in the kefir-colitis group than in the colitis group(on the 3rd and 5th days of colitis induction; P < 0.01). The DAI was also significantly higher in the colitis group between days 2 and 6 of colitis induction when compared to the normal control and kefir-control groups. The DAI was statistically higher only on the 6th day in the kefircolitis group when compared to that in the normal control groups. Increased colon weight and decreased colon length were observed in colitis-induced rats. Mean colon length in the colitis group was significantly shorter than that of the kefir-control group. Kefir treatment significantly decreased histologic colitis scores(P < 0.05). MPO activity in the colitis group was significantly higher than in the kefir-control group(P < 0.05). The effects of severe aortic stenosis and high pulmonary artery pressure on aortic valve replacement

Background: Pulmonary hypertension development in pure severe aortic stenosis is a situation that affects mortality and morbidity. Material and Methods: Data from files of 31 patients with systolic pulmonary artery pressure over 50 mm Hg and with pure severe aortic stenosis, and underwent aortic valve replacement in our clinic were examined retrospectively. Results: Preoperative effort capacities of the patients were evaluated as follows according to NYHA;4 patients class 1-2, 16 patients class 3, and 11 patients class 4. Twenty-five metal, and 6 biologic aortic valves were used. Postoperative hospital mortality was recorded as 12% with 4 patients. Patients were reevaluated on the postoperative 2nd and 12th months. Pulmonary arterial pressure of the patients was measured using echocardiography. Preoperative average pulmonary artery systolic pressure was measured as 55 ± 3 mmHg. The average pressure was measured as 41 ± 3 mmHg on the 2nd, and as 37.8 ± 4 mmHg on the 12th month. The effort capacity evaluation in the postoperative 2nd month was as follows: 11 patients class 1-2, 12 patients class 3, and 4 patients class 4. The effort capacity evaluation conducted in the 12th month was: 14 patients were class 1-2, 10 patients were class 3, and 2 patients were class 4. During the follow-up 1 year, survival rate of the patients was determined as 83.8% average, 5 year survival rate was determined as 61.5%. Conclusion: We believe that AVR may be performed in severe aortic stenosis cases with high pulmonary pressure with acceptable ortality, leading to a better quality and longer life.
