Liberica coffee as an alternative cropping system for sustainable farming on Indonesian Peatlands

Indonesian peatlands are a fragile ecosystem,and to protect it,growing Liberica coffee is a promising way for both the environment and the *** study aimed to evaluate the performance of the liberica coffee on peatland with different water tables and develop an improved cultivation system in this *** study area was in Tanjung Jabung Barat District,Jambi Province,*** plant age is greater than 15 years and the average plant density was about 1000 trees/*** study was conducted in two *** 1st stage was a survey to identify and characterize smallholder liberica coffee farming at three peatland zones,namely 0-100 m,200-300 m,and>400 m from the principal drainage canal,and the 2nd stage was a field experiment to test the effectiveness of amendments in improving liberica coffee growth and improving degraded *** treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four replications,including manure(M),at the rate of 10 t/hm^(2);lime(L),3 t/hm^(2);peat surface elevation(P),and a farmer’s practice(Control)without manure and/or lime as a *** research revealed that liberica coffee can not tolerate high water table as it may stimulate disease incidence and cause low-quality ***,recycling of organic C of about 17.14 t/(hm^(2)·a)through cherry residue application and litter compensated part of the loss of organic C through CO_(2)emissions,coffee bean removal,and maintaining peat fertility for sustainable *** low yield of(0.70±0.12)t/(hm^(2)∙a)coffee bean could be increased to(0.87±0.24)and(0.94±0.14)t/(hm^(2)∙a)by adding 3 t/(hm^(2)∙3a)of lime or 10 t/(hm^(2)∙a)of manure,*** research revealed that water table management and amendments are two main factors in liberica coffee farming on *** is of great significance to study the cultivation technology of coffee in peatland.

Spectroscopic Observations of Ten Galactic Wolf-Rayet Stars at Bosscha Observatory:Determination of Stellar Parameters and Mass-loss Rates

We present optical spectra of 10 Galactic Wolf-Rayet(WR)stars that consist of five WN and five WC *** optical observation was conducted using a low-resolution spectrograph NEO-R1000(λ/Δλ~1000)at GAO-ITB RTS(27.94 cm,F/10.0),Bosscha Observatory,*** implemented stellar atmosphere Postdam Wolf-Rayet(PoWR)grid modeling to derive stellar *** normalized optical spectrum can be used to find the best model from the available PoWR grid,then we could derive stellar temperature and transformation *** derive luminosity,stellar radius and color excess,we conducted a Spectral Energy Distribution(SED)analysis with additional data on the near-ultraviolet spectrum from the International Ultraviolet Explorer(IUE)database,and UBV and 2MASS JHK broadband filter *** analysis to derive asymptotic terminal wind velocity was conducted from the P-Cygni profile analysis of the high-resolution IUE ultraviolet *** previously derived parameters,we could determine the mass loss rate of the WR ***,we compared our results with previous work that used PoWR code and the differences are not more than 20%.We conclude that the PoWR spectral grid is sufficient to derive WR stellar parameters quickly and could provide more accurate initial parameter input to the PoWR program code.

Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) nanosheets have attracted significant attention for their potential in electromagnetic wave absorption(EWA).However,their inherent self-stacking and exorbitant electrical conductivity inevitably lead to serious impedance mismatch,restricting their EWA ***,the optimization of impedance matching becomes *** this work,we developed polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)@Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)@SiO_(2) composites with a sandwich-like core–shell structure by coating SiO_(2) on PMMA@Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x).The results demonstrate that the superiority of the SiO_(2) layer in combination with PMMA@Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x),outperforming other relative graded distribution structures and meeting the requirements of EWA *** resulting PMMA@Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)@SiO_(2) composites achieved a minimum reflection loss of-58.08 dB with a thickness of 1.9 mm,and an effective absorption bandwidth of 2.88 *** analysis revealed that the structural design of SiO_(2) layer not only optimized impedance matching,but also synergistically enhanced multiple loss mechanisms such as interfacial polarization and dipolar ***,this work provides valuable insights for the future preparation of high-performance electromagnetic wave absorbing Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)-based composites.

Exploring the Interplay Between Social Awareness and the Use of Bed Nets in a Malaria Control Program

This research aims to understand the effect of human awareness and the use of bed nets on malaria control programs.A deterministic host-vector mathematical model was utilized and simplified using the Quasi-Steady State Approximation,assuming the mosquito population is at equilibrium due to its fast,dynamic *** model reveals two equilibrium states:the malaria-free equilibrium and the endemic *** malaria-free equilibrium is locally asymptotically stable when the basic reproduction number is less than one and unstable if it is larger than ***,the malaria-endemic equilibrium is unique and stable if the reproduction number exceeds one and does not exist *** on incidence data from Papua,parameter estimation and sensitivity analyses indicate that human awareness and the use of bed nets significantly reduce the reproduction *** address budget constraints for interventions,the model was reformulated as an optimal control problem,characterized using the Pontryagin Maximum Principle,and solved with the forward–backward sweep *** experiments were conducted to assess the impact of various scenarios on the malaria control ***-effectiveness analyses employing ACER,ICER,and IAR metrics suggest that while the combined implementation of awareness campaigns and bed nets effectively reduces infections,it incurs high *** contrast,implementing human awareness campaigns alone emerges as the best strategy based on ACER,ICER,and IAR *** study demonstrates that enhancing human awareness and promoting the use of bed nets are effective strategies for controlling ***,due to budget constraints,focusing solely on awareness campaigns proves to be the most cost-effective *** approach not only reduces malaria transmission but also optimizes resource allocation,highlighting the importance of targeted educational programs in public health initiatives for malaria control.

Sorghum(Sorghum bicolor ***)is an essential food crop for more than 750 million people in tropical and sub-tropical dry climates of Africa,India,and Latin *** domestic sorghum market in Indonesia is still limited to the eastern region(East Nusa Tenggara,West Nusa Tenggara,Java,and South Sulawesi).Therefore,it is crucial to carry out sorghum research on *** research aimed to investigate the effect of sorghum genotype and planting distance and their interaction toward growth and sorghum’s productivity in the Gunungkidul dryland,Yogyakarta,*** addition,the farm business analysis,including the feasibility of sorghum farming,was also *** research used a randomized complete block design(RCBD),arranged in a 5×4 factorial with 3 *** first treatment consisted of 5 varieties(2 high-yielding varieties(Bioguma 1 and Kawali)and 3 local sorghum varieties(Plonco,Ketan Merah,and Hitam Wareng)).The second treatment consisted of 4 levels of planting distance,namely 50×20 cm,60×20 cm,70×15 cm,and 70×20×20 *** of variance was used to analyze the data,where Duncan’s multiple range test(DMRT)was used post *** height,panicle height,panicle width,panicle weight,stover weight,grains weight/plot,and productivity were significantly affected by sorghum varieties(p<0.05).However,there was no significant effect from the planting distance treatment and no interaction between planting distance and varietal *** Merah had the highest height,panicle length,and panicle width,while Bioguma 1 had the highest stover weight,panicle weight,grain weight/plot,and *** was a significant linear regression equation,i.e.,productivity=0.0054–0.0003 panicle height+0.4163 grains weight/*** findings on farm business analysis suggested that four out of five tested sorghum varieties were feasible to grow,except for the Ketan Merah *** most economically profitable sorghum variety to grow in Gunungkidul dryland was

Surface modification of titanium using steel slag ball and shot blasting treatment for biomedical implant applications

Surface modification is often performed using grit or shot blasting treatment for improving the performances of biomedical implants. The effects of blasting treatments using steel slag balls and spherical shots on the surface and subsurface of titanium were studied in this paper. The treatments were conducted for 60-300 s using 2-5 mm steel slag bails and 3.18 mm spherical shots. The surface morphology, roughness, and elemental composition of titanium specimens were examined prior to and after the treatments. Irregular and rough titanium surfaces were formed after the treatment with the steel slag balls instead of the spherical shots. The former treatment also introduced some bioactive elements on the titanium surface, but the latter one yielded a harder surface layer. In conclusion, both steel slag ball and shot blasting treatment have their own specialization in modifying the surface of metallic biomaterials. Steel slag ball blasting is potential for improving the osseointegration quality of implants; but the shot blasting is more appropriate for improving the mechanical properties of temporary and load bearing implants, such as osteosynthesis plates.

Surface reconstruction with spherical harmonics and its application for single particle crushing simulations

Analysis of explosion risk factor potential on coal reclaim tunnel facilities by modified analytical hierarchy process

This study focused on developing a risk assessment method for explosion at a coal reclaim tunnel （CRT） facility. The method was developed based on an analytical hierarchy process （AHP）, which is an expert system that quantifies the factors of explosion incidents, based on events and hierarchies. In this paper, the proposed model was modification from original AHP model, specifically modifying the structure from ＂alternative＇s results＂ to ＂total risk-rating＇s results＂. The total risk-rating is obtained by summing up risk-rating of each factor, where the risk-rating is a multiplication product of the risk value by the AHP weighted value. To support decision-making using the expert system, data on the real conditions of the CRT were collected and analyzed. A physical modeling of the CRT with laboratory-scale experiments was carried out to show the impact of a ventilation system in CRT on diluting the methane gas and coal dust, in order to support the quantification of AHP risk value. The criteria to evaluate the risk of explosion was constructed from six components that are： fuel, oxygen, ignition, confinement, dispersion, and monitoring system. Those components had fifty-two factors that serve as sub-components （root causes）. The main causes of explosion in CRT were found to be： mechanical ventilation failure and abnormal ventilation, breakdown of monitoring system, and coal spontaneous-combustion. Assessments of two CRT facilities at Mine A and Mine B were carried out as a case study in order to check the reliability of the developed AHP method. The results showed that the risk rating of Mine A was classified as high and Mine B was classified as medium, which is in a good agreement with the site conditions.
