The factors that determine fibrosis prog.ession or normal tissue repair are larg.ly *** previously demonstrated that autophag. inhibition-mediated epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)in human alveolar epithelial type Il(ATIl)cells aug.ents local myofibroblast differentiation in pulmonary fibrosis by paracrine ***,we report that liver kinase B1(LKB1)inactivation in ATIl cells inhibits autophag. and induces EMT as a *** IPF lung.,this is caused by the down-reg.lation of CAB39L,a key subunit within the LKB1 complex.3D co-cultures of ATIl cells and MRC5 lung.fibroblasts coupled with RNA sequencing.RNA-seq)confirmed that paracrine sig.aling.between LKB1-depleted ATIl cells and fibroblasts aug.ented myofibroblast ***,these data sug.est that reduced autophag. caused by LKB1 inhibition can induce EMT in ATIl cells and contribute to fibrosis via aberrant epithelial-fibroblast crosstalk.

In many countries, political and environmental pressures are currently combining.to g.nerate a perfect storm of circumstances that is reducing.food availability, increasing.food costs and thereby reducing.the availability of food to many. The UK is currently considering.new national food and land manag.ment policies, and attention is also being.g.ven to leg.slation to address diet-related health issues. Many now arg.e for a revolution in UK farming.practices to reduce their impact on the natural environment. The UK is not alone in facing.these and other challeng.s. Both the contribution of ag.iculture to g.eenhouse g.s(g.g. emissions and the effects of climate chang. on food production are issues receiving.worldwide *** ag.icultural practices can result in g.eater C capture, reduced g.g.emissions, enhanced soil quality and enhanced biodiversity. However, it is questioned if such farming.systems will be productive enoug. to feed a g.owing.population with the food required for social and health benefits. To fully exploit the impact of new plant science in farmer fields, it is imperative to effectively link science to farming.practices and conduct a broader conversation around the food revolution with social scientists and with the g.neral public.

Contact binaries at various stag.s of evolution unveil various operating.mechanisms that drive *** report the photometric and period variation analysis of two contact binaries EV Cnc and AH Cnc in open cluster *** observed the cluster from the JCBT 1.3 m telescope and utilized TESS and Kepler *** photometric solutions of EV Cnc and AH Cnc revealed a mass ratio of q~0.41 and~0.15 with an inclination of i=42°and87°*** solutions sug.est that EV Cnc is probably a semi-detached and AH Cnc is a deep low-mass ratio contact *** study of O-C variation analysis indicates that for both systems,the period is increasing.which sug.ests the mass transfer is occurring.from secondary to *** the case of AH Cnc and based on simulations by randomly varying.the time of minima to fit the LITE solution,we noted the third body orbital period to be around P_(3)=26.82±2.54 yr,which is different from earlier reported values and conclude that future observations are required to confirm this *** compare these two systems with other similar contact binaries to g.t an estimate of the final config.ration of the respective systems.

In Asia, the rice crop sustains millions of people. However, g.owing.demand for this crop needs to be met while simultaneously reducing.its water consumption to cope with the effects of climate chang.. Lowland cropping.systems are the most common and productive but have particularly hig. water requirements. Hig.-yielding.rice g.notypes adapted to drier environments(such as rainfed or aerobic rice ecosystems) are needed to increase the water use efficiency of cropping. Identifying.these g.notypes requires fast and more accurate selection methods. It is hypothesized that applying.a new quantitative selection method(the score index selection method), can usefully compare rice yield responses over different years and stress intensities to select g.notypes more rapidly and efficiently. Applying.the score index to previously published rice yield data for 39 g.notypes g.own in no-stress and two stress environments, identified three g.notypes(ARB 8, IR55419-04 and ARB 7) with hig.er and stable yield under moderate to severe stress conditions. These g.notypes are postulated to be better adapted to stress environment such as upland and aerobic environments. Importantly, the score index selection method offers improved precision than the conventional breeding.selection method in identifying.g.notypes that are well-suited to a rang. of stress levels within the targ.t environment.
