deep learning tomographic reconstruction through hierarchical decomposition of domain transforms

deep learning(DL)has shown unprecedented performance for many image analysis and image enhancement ***,solving large-scale inverse problems like tomographic reconstruction remains challenging for *** problems involve non-local and space-variant integral transforms between the input and output domains,for which no efficient neural network models are readily available.A prior attempt to solve tomographic reconstruction problems with supervised learning relied on a brute-force fully connected network and only allowed reconstruction with a 128^(4)system matrix *** cannot practically scale to realistic data sizes such as 512^(4)and 512^(6)for three-dimensional *** we present a novel framework to solve such problems with DL by casting the original problem as a continuum of intermediate representations between the input and output *** original problem is broken down into a sequence of simpler transformations that can be well mapped onto an efficient hierarchical network architecture,with exponentially fewer parameters than a fully connected network would *** applied the approach to computed tomography(CT)image reconstruction for a 5124 system matrix *** work introduces a new kind of data-driven DL solver for full-size CT reconstruction without relying on the structure of direct(analytical)or iterative(numerical)inversion *** work presents a feasibility demonstration of full-scale learnt reconstruction,whereas more developments will be needed to demonstrate superiority relative to traditional reconstruction *** proposed approach is also extendable to other imaging problems such as emission and magnetic resonance *** broadly,hierarchical DL opens the door to a new class of solvers for general inverse problems,which could potentially lead to improved signal-to-noise ratio,spatial resolution and computational efficiency in various areas.

This review paper aims to summarize cardiac CT blooming artifacts,how they present clinically and what their root causes and potential solutions are.A literature survey was performed covering any publications with a specific interest in calcium blooming and stent blooming in cardiac *** claims from literature are compared and interpreted,aiming at narrowing down the root causes and most promising solutions for blooming *** than 30 journal publications were identified with specific relevance to blooming *** main reported causes of blooming artifacts are the partial volume effect,motion artifacts and beam *** proposed solutions are classified as high-resolution CT hardware,high-resolution CT reconstruction,subtraction techniques and post-processing techniques,with a special emphasis on deep learning(DL)*** partial volume effect is the leading cause of blooming *** partial volume effect can be minimized by increasing the CT spatial resolution through higherresolution CT hardware or advanced high-resolution CT *** addition,DL techniques have shown great promise to correct for blooming artifacts.A combination of these techniques could avoid repeat scans for subtraction techniques.

defensive pressure affects basketball technical actions but not the time-motion variables

Background: Novel player tracking technologies can change the understanding of performance determinants in team sports by allowing to accurately measuring the activity demands. The aim of this study was to identify how the defensive pressure affects the time-motion variables and the technical actions in ***: Twenty international male players(age: 16.05 ± 2.09 years, weight: 73.13 ± 8.10 kg, height: 183.10 ± 5.88 cm) played two 10 min basketball quarters, where they used a man-to-man 1/4-court defense until the 4th min(F1/4), changed to man-to-man full court(FULL) for 3 min and, from the 7th to the 10 th min returned to 1/4-court defense(S1/4). A computerized notational analysis was performed using Simi Scout and positional data were captured with the Ubisense Real Time Location System(mean sampling rate 3.74 ± 0.45 Hz per transmitter/player).Results: The time-motion variables presented similar results between defensive conditions, showing a total distance covered around 90 m/***, results suggested possible vertical jump impairments in S1/4 periods. There was more distance covered while jogging in the offensive court(38.15 ± 12.17 m/min offensive court vs. 32.94 ± 10.84 m/min defensive court, p defensive court(16.41 ± 10.27 m/min offensive court vs. 19.56 ± 10.29 m/min defensive court, p decisions during the games.

Acute pancreatitis complicated with splenic rupture: A case report

Atraumatic splenic rupture is an uncommon complication of acute pancreatitis. This report describes the case of a 30-year-old man with acute pancreatitis and splenic vein thrombosis complicated by splenic rupture. The patient was admitted to the emergency department with pain in the upper abdomen that had been present for six hours and was associated with vomiting and sweating. He was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis of alcoholic etiology. Upon computed tomography(CT) of the abdomen, the pancreatitis was scored as Balthazar C grade, and a suspicious area of necrosis affecting 30% of the pancreas with splenic vein thrombosis was revealed. Seventytwo hours after admission, the patient had significant improvement in symptoms. However, he showed clinical worsening on the sixth day of hospitalization, with increasing abdominal distension and reduced hemoglobin levels. A CT angiography showed a large amount of free fluid in the abdominal cavity, along with a large splenic hematoma and contrast extravasation along the spleen artery. The patient subsequently underwent laparotomy, which showed hemoperitoneum due to rupture of the splenic parenchyma. A splenectomy was then performed, followed by ultrasound-guided percutaneous drainage.

Isothermal Transport (Core-Flow Type) of Heavy and Ultraviscous Oil in Curved Pipes: A Transient Study by CFD

In the scenery of the oil industry, the remaining resources associated with light oils have an increasingly smaller share in the natural energy resources available to man, and in return the importance of resources associated with heavy oils has increased significantly. One of the drawbacks of this type of oil is associated with its low mobility due to the high viscosity in reservoir conditions, making the transport in pipelines very difficult, especially through pumping methods that require high powers. Thus, the development of new techniques and optimization of some existing technologies, aiming at the commercial use of heavy oil accumulations plays an important role. A viable technique that has been used is the core annular flow, in which small amounts of water are injected close to the pipe wall, lubricating the oil core, reducing friction and decreasing the pressure drop during the flow. In this sense, this work aims to perform, numerically, an energetic and hydrodynamic analysis of a heavy oil-water two-phase flow, using the core-flow technique, in curved pipes, in the Ansys CFX software. Results of the velocity, pressure, and volume fraction distribution of the involved phases are presented and analyzed. It was observed that the proposed mathematical model was able to accurately represent the analyzed phenomena and that a reduction factor in the pressure drop of 28.4 was obtained as compared to the heavy oil single-phase flow.
