comparative Study of <i>Helicoverpa armigera</i>(Hubner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Preference for Bt and Non-Bt Soybean cultivars

Studies on the behavior of Helicoverpa armigera in relation to soybean cultivars expressing Bt proteins are fundamentally important for IPM. We determine the no-choice and feeding choice of H. armigera, the no-choice and oviposition choice in different Bt and non-Bt soybeans cultivars. In the first step it was carried out the experiment to determine the no-choice and food choice in test for 12 Bt and non-Bt soybean cultivars. Simultaneously the consumption was determined. In a second step it was evaluated the no-choice and oviposition choice in different soybean cultivars. Helicoverpa armigera caterpillars showed neither attractiveness and preference for food nor attractiveness and oviposition preference for Bt and non-Bt soybean leaves when simultaneously contrasting the tested cultivars. This study showed that Bt toxin did not influence the oviposition preference, and H. armigera adults did not differentiate Bt and non-Bt soybean cultivars for oviposition indicating no behavioral preference. Third instar caterpillars showed no discrimination between Bt and non-Bt soybean leaves. Research in this area must focus on the possibility of widespread planting of genetically modified soybeans containing the Bt protein, which is associated with selection pressure and the behavior of pest species in relation to their hosts, as well as on the adequacy of management tactics that is able to prevent the loss of technology efficiency.

Evaluation of the genotoxic and cytotoxic potentials is a part of the analysis process where plant products with therapeutic properties must be submitted for being safely employed, mainly through long time points, doannesia princeps, also known as ＂cotieira＂ has been used on popular medicine as laxative and several diseases treatment. Aiming to analyze genotoxic potential ofd. princeps leaves extract, Allium cepa assay and micronucleus test were employed. No genotoxic activity presented J. princeps leaves extract; however, extracts cytotoxic activity over A. cepa meristematic cells and mice marrow cells was observed. J. princeps leaves extract presented antiproliferative activity at concentrations and systems employed indicating their therapeutic potential for cellular cycle inhibition. Moreover, results showed that in regard to its mutagenic effect, usage of J. princeps leaves tea on popular medicine has been a safe procedure, as well.

Historical case Report: 45 Years of the First Plastic Surgery in Morbid Obese in Brazil and Their Weight Loss

Before the 70s, in Brazil, each city had its morbidly obese, considered as the “excessive fats”, in very small numbers if we compare it with the current percentage. There was no classification of the degree of obesity by the body mass index (BMI) as we have today. By chance, on a Saturday in June 1975, at the Outpatient clinic of the 23rd Infirmary of Santa casa da Misericórdia Hospital in Rio de Janeiro, arrived the patient I. S., 41 years old, 1.70 m tall, supported by her two children, weighing 210 kg in weight body. Knowing that bariatric surgery only appeared in the 1980s, before that, patients with morbid obesity were left to their own devices, with hypertension and diabetes. The patient I. S. was hospitalized for 3 years in our Plastic Surgery Service, having received nutritional monitoring, had sporadic discharges and undergone 9 reparative plastic surgeries. She was discharged weighing 71 kg, with self-esteem recovered and happy to start a new life, without hypertension and diabetes.

Evaluation of the Therapeutic Response and Improvement in the Quality of Life of the Patient with Darier Disease to Acitretin through an Analogy between close Relatives

Darier disease (DD), also known as follicular keratosis, is a rare autosomal dominant hereditary acantholytic dermatosis caused by a mutation in the ATP2A2 gene. Skin lesions are characterized by persistent confluent papules, preferentially located on the seborrheic areas of the face, chest and back. The hands, feet and nails are also commonly affected. DD has a chronic course with frequent relapses. Their treatment is often difficult and unsatisfactory. We present the case of a 54-year-old male with a history of keratotic papules with a brownish-black color, with a foul-smelling, pruritic and ardent appearance on the back and trunk, since the age of 19, which worsen in the summer. His 27-year-old daughter has a similar picture with her skin lesions started at age of 17 in the region below the breast, back, trunk, feet and hands. After the skin biopsy, the diagnosis was confirmed and acitretin 30 mg/day was instituted. The importance of this case report is to alert health professionals that the diagnosis of DD should be considered in family members of patients, especially those in the first degree, and also in patients with follicular keratolytic dermatoses, being an important differential diagnosis of this group of patients diseases.

Root Growth, Nutrition and Yield of Maize with Applied Finely Limestone in Surface of cerrado Soil

The surface applies lime to correcting soil acidity in no-tillage and promotes root development and yield of maize. However, limestone with a particle size smaller than 0.30 mm cannot promote this effect. The aim of this study was to determine the root attributes, nutrition and productivity of maize with limestone ground in no-tillage. The experimental design was randomized blocks with five treatments and four replications. The treatments consisted of different particle sizes of limestone applying superficially to the soil under NT 0) control, without lime, 1) 0.30 mm to 0.20 mm 2) 0.20 mm to 0.10 mm, 3) 0, 10 mm to 0.05 mm 4) 0.05 mm to 0.01 mm. Attributes root, leaf nutrition and grain yield of maize were evaluated in two years 2009 and 2010. The elongation of roots in a 20-40 cm depth was greater when using limestone with particle size between 0.30 mm and 0.20 mm. The root length of maize plants correlated with the levels of Mn in maize leaves. The root development promoted by liming effect was not reflected in the productivity of maize.

BAcKGROUND Endoscopic drainage remains the treatment of choice for unresectable or inoperable malignant distal biliary obstruction(MDBO).AIM To compare the safety and efficacy of plastic stent(PS)vs self-expanding metal stent(SEMS)placement for treatment of *** This meta-analysis was developed according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines.A comprehensive search was performed in MEDLINE,cochrane,Embase,Latin American and caribbean Health Sciences Literature,and grey literature to identify randomized clinical trials(RcTs)comparing clinical success,adverse events,stent dysfunction rate,reintervention rate,duration of stent patency,and mean *** difference(RD)and mean difference(MD)were calculated and heterogeneity was assessed with I2 *** analyses were performed by SEMS *** Twelve RcTs were included in this study,totaling 1005 *** was no difference in clinical success(RD=-0.03,95%confidence interval[cI]:-0.01,0.07;I 2=0%),rate of adverse events(RD=-0.03,95%cI:-0.10,0.03;I2=57%),and mean patient survival(MD=-0.63,95%cI:-18.07,19.33;I2=54%)between SEMS vs PS ***,SEMS placement was associated with a lower rate of reintervention(RD=-0.34,95%cI:-0.46,-0.22;I2=57%)and longer duration of stent patency(MD=125.77 d,95%cI:77.5,174.01).Subgroup analyses revealed both covered and uncovered SEMS improved stent patency compared to PS(RD=152.25,95%cI:37.42,267.07;I2=98%and RD=101.5,95%cI:38.91,164.09;I2=98%;respectively).Stent dysfunction was higher in the covered SEMS group(RD=-0.21,95%cI:-0.32,-0.1;I²=205%),with no difference in the uncovered SEMS group(RD=-0.08,95%cI:-0.56,0.39;I²=87%).cONcLUSION While both stent types possessed a similar clinical success rate,complication rate,and patient-associated mean survival for treatment of MDBO,SEMS were associated with a longer duration of stent patency compared to PS.

Root Growth, Nutrition and Yield of Maize with Applied Different Limestone Particle Size in the cerrado Soil

The limestone with smaller particle size provides rapid correction of soil acidity. However, the limestone with large particles can promote bigger root growth, and may still have a residual effect on the soil. The aim of this study was to evaluate the residual effect of the application and incorporation of different limestone with a particle size bigger than 0.30 mm in root growth, nutrition and yield of maize in cerrado soil. A randomized completed block utilized in this experiment, with five treatments and four replications. The grain sizes of dolomitic limestone incorporated into the Oxisol were: 0 (control, no-lime), 2.00-0.82 mm, 0.82-0.56 mm, 0.56-0.30 mm, 0.30-0.20 mm, in doses of 6.5 t·ha-1, 3.9 t·ha-1, 2.6 t·ha-1 and 1.3 t·ha-1 respectively. The limestone applied in introduction no-tillage. The maize were evaluated of root attributes, nutrition and grain yield in two years 2009 and 2010. The use of limestone particle size of 2.00-0.82 mm, and the quantity of 6.5 t·ha-1 applied to the soil and incorporated showed elongation and root growth of maize thin depth of 20-40 cm in the soil. In that, same proposed management of the limestone was the highest maize grain yield in the first year. The rooting characteristics evaluated correlated with leaf ca and cu and maizegrain yield.

AIM： To investigate the potential of bone marrow mononuclear cells （BM-Mcs） in the regeneration of hepatic lesions induced by Schistosoma mansoni （***） chronic infection. METHODS： Female mice chronically infected with *** were treated with BM-Mcs obtained from male green fluorescent protein （GFP） transgenic mice by intravenous or intralobular injections. control mice received injections of saline in similar conditions, Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （ELISA） assay for transforming growth factor-beta （TGF-β）, polymerase chain reaction （PcR） for GFP DNA, immunofluorescence and morphometric studies were performed. RESULTS： Transplanted GFP^＋ cells migrated to granuloma areas and reduced the percentage of liver fibrosis. The presence of donor-derived cells was confirmed by Fluorescence in situ hybridization （FISH） analysis for detection of cells bearing Y chromosome and by PcR analysis for detection of GFP DNA. The levels of TGF-β, a cytokine associated with fibrosis deposition, in liver fragments of mice submitted to therapy were reduced. The number of oval cells in liver sections of ***-infected mice increased 3-4 fold after transplantation. A partial recovery in albumin expression, which is decreased upon infection with ***, was found in livers of infected mice after cellular therapy. cONcLUSION： In conclusion, transplanted BMcs migrate to and reduce the damage of chronic fibrotic liver lesions caused by ***.

Hypertension Associated with Atherosclerosis Risk Factors in Patients of Family Health Strategy Highlighting the Framingham Risk Score

The Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) stands out among the chronic non-transmissible pathologies that impact the cause and/or aggravation of cardiovascular diseases (cVD) on a global level, as the disease is an underestimated disorder due to non-perceptive symptoms and associated with factors and risk markers of another cVD. Therefore, establishing the risk of progression and aggravation of the SAH, according the Framingham Risk Score (FRS), allows to reducing morbidity and improving preventative measures for DcVs. This observational and transversal study approaches the data collection of patient records at the Health Family Strategy of Senhor do Bonfim, BA, which established differences by descriptive and inferential statistical analysis (correlation and regression). The aspects of hypertension associated with risk factors for atherosclerosis were analyzed, determining the risk of developing cardiovascular events in 10 years by FRS. From 432 families, 746 patients were selected, of which 340 are hypertensive individuals (SAH = 45.57%) and 406 (NSAH = 54.42%) non-hypertensives. Among the SAH the majority (31.17%) was in the age range of 63 - 77, but, in both groups, women were in stronger number. There was greater prevalence in SAH for all the characteristics analyzed, smoking (13.20%), sedentary (29.41%) and cardiovascular accident (22.60%). The SAH group is more susceptive to the cVD progress in 10 years by FRS (P cant associations among all the variables analyzed as was expected, without differences between the linear correlation and regression, indicating the physio-metabolic equilibrium of the factors and markers evaluated by FRS. Already in SAH group, despite the correlations have been significant too, the regression analysis revealed that only Total cholesterol (P = 0.0086);LDL (P cose (P cative association with FRS.
