Effect of technical parameters on transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts utilizing stent grafts

AIM: To assess the effect of technical parameters on outcomes of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS) created using a stent ***: The medical records of 68 patients who underwent TIPS placement with a stent graft from 2008 to 2014 were reviewed by two radiologists blinded to the patient *** Subtraction Angiographic images with a measuring catheter in two orthogonal planes was used to determine the TIPS stent-to-inferior vena cava distance(SIVCD),hepatic vein to parenchymal tract angle(HVTA),portal vein to parenchymal tract angle(PVTA),and the accessed portal *** length and diameter of the TIPS stent and the use of concurrent variceal embolization were recorded by review of the patient's procedure *** on re-intervention within 30 d of TIPS placement,recurrence of symptoms,and survival were collected through the patient's *** proportional regression analysis was performed to assess the effect of these technical parameters on primary patency of TIPS,time to recurrence of symptoms,and all-cause ***: There was no significant associationbetween the SIVCD and primary patency(P = 0.23),time to recurrence of symptoms(P = 0.83),or allcause mortality(P = 0.18).The 3,6,and 12-mo primary patency rates for a SIVCD ≥ 1.5 cm were 82.4%,64.7%,and 50.3% compared to 89.3%,83.8%,and 60.6% for a SIVCD of < 1.5 cm(P = 0.29).The median time to stenosis for a SIVCD of ≥ 1.5 cm was 19.1 mo vs 15.1 mo for a SIVCD of < 1.5 cm(P = 0.48).There was no significant association between the following factors and primary patency: HVTA(P = 0.99),PVTA(P = 0.65),accessed portal vein(P = 0.35),TIPS stent diameter(P = 0.93),TIPS stent length(P = 0.48),concurrent variceal embolization(P = 0.13) and reinterventions within 30 d(P = 0.24).Furthermore,there was no correlation between these technical parameters and time to recurrence of symptoms or all-cause *** of symptoms was associated with stent graft stenosis(P = 0.03).CON

Background: Intracranial suppurations (ICS) due to common causative microorganisms are still an important health problem in Africa. Their management, which has certainly been improved by technological developments, varies according to neurosurgical teams. Objectives: To describe the clinical characteristics, the causative microorganisms, the outcome, and provide relevant data on the current modalities of the care of ICS. Methods: We conducted a systematic review of studies on intracranial suppurations published in Africa between January 2002 and December 2018. We included studies which had at least 6 patients with ICS. Pubmed, Google and Google scholar were searched for relevant studies. A total of 17 studies were found, from which we define the epidemiological aspects, therapeutic, and evolutionary diagnostics. Results: A total of 1166 patients were identified, and they were categorized as follows: 531 cases of abscess, 272 of empyema and 363 of intracranial suppurations with incomplete data (ICSDI). The average age in ICSDI was 10.9 years. In abscesses and empyema, 75% of patients were under 40 years. There was a male predominance of 2.4 to 1. These intra-cranial suppurations in general complicated mainly loco-regional infections. The classic triad was dominated by headache (66.5%), fever (59.4%) and neurological deficits (46.1%). The CT rarely associated with the MRI, had shown a predominance of supra-tentorial sites (92.5%) of which 37.5% was in frontal region. Of the 380 microorganisms isolated, Gram positive represented 68.9%, Gram negative 17.7% and anaerobic 13.4%. The treatment was medico-surgical (79.5%). It associated a triple antibiotherapy and a trepano-puncture. It had achieved healing in 88.2% of which 20.4% had sequelae. Case fatality rate was 11.8%. Conclusion: ICS constitute during this century, a health problem whose solution passes by the adequate treatment of loco-regional infections, their main sources.

Nassau grouper Epinephelus striatus are a large bodied, top level predator that is ecologically important throughout the Caribbean. Although typically solitary, Nassau grouper form large annual spawning aggregations at predictable times in spe- cific locations. In 2003, The Cayman Islands Marine Conservation Board established protection for a newly rediscovered Nassau grouper spawning aggregation on Little Cayman, British West Indies. The large size of this aggregation provides a unique oppor- tunity to study the behavior of Nassau grouper on a relatively intact spawning aggregation. During non-spawning periods Nassau grouper display a reddish-brown-and-white barred coloration. However, while aggregating they exhibit three additional color phases：＂bicolor＂, ＂dark＂, and ＂white belly＂. We video sampled the population on multiple days leading up to spawning across five spawning years. Divers focused a laser caliper equipped video camera on individual fish at the aggregation. We later ana- lyzed the video to determine the length of the fish and record the color phase. Our observations show that the relative proportion of fish in the bicolor color phase increases significantly on the day leading up to the primary night of spawning. The increase in the proportion of the bicolor color phase from 0.05 early in the aggregation to 0.40 on the day of spawning suggests that this color phase conveys that a fish is behaviorally and physiologically prepared to spawn. Additionally, 82.7% of fish exhibiting dark or white belly coloration early in the aggregation period suggests that these color phases are not only shown by female fish as was previously posited [Current Zoology 58 （1）： 73-83, 2012].

In this paper, we performed an investigation of the dissipative solitons of the two-dimensional (2D) Complex Swift-Hohenberg equation (CSHE). Stationary to pulsating soliton bifurcation analysis of the 2D CSHE is displayed. The approach is based on the semi-analytical method of collective coordinate approach. This method is constructed on a reduction from an infinite-dimensional dynamical dissipative system to a finite-dimensional model. The reduced model helps to obtain approximately the boundaries between the stationary and pulsating solutions. We analyzed the dynamics and characteristics of the pulsating solitons. Then we obtained the bifurcation diagram for a definite range of the saturation of the Kerr nonlinearity values. This diagram reveals the effect of the saturation of the Kerr nonlinearity on the period pulsations. The results show that when the parameter of the saturation of the Kerr nonlinearity increases, one period pulsating soliton solution bifurcates to double period pulsations.

Flooded rice cultivation fields appear to be the major source of methane emission. In Benin Republic, flooded rice is cultivated in the Niger River and Ouémé River Basins. The present study aims to assess the contribution of flooded rice cultivation systems to methane emissions in the lower Ouémé Valley. Methane emission calculation was based on Activity Data which is the flooded rice harvested surface area from 2008 to 2017. The Tier 2 methodology of the IPCC 2006 Guidelines’ and the complements of the “Refinement 2019” have been used to elaborate the specific emission factors for the lower valley of Ouémé and to estimate the emission of methane in this zone. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with producers in order to elaborate on their perceptions of gas emissions in the flooded rice fields. The EX-ACT tool was used to estimate the carbon footprint of the intensive rice cultivation system “SRI” and the conventional rice cultivation system “SRC”. It is shown that producers have a strong perception of gas emissions in rice fields but are totally unaware of the nature of the gas. Methane emitted in the lower valley of the Ouémé is around 528 tons/year between 2008 and 2017 while the carbon footprint resulting from the results of EX-ACT for the adoption of the SRI rises to the level of sequestration of approximately 0.4 tCH4/ha/year. The intensive rice cultivation system has been identified as the production system that minimizes methane emissions and maximizes rice production.

The search for common characteristics between the musical abilities of humans and other animal species is still taking its frst *** of the most promising aspects from a comparative point of view is the analysis of rhythmic components,which are crucial features of human communicative performance but also well-identifable patterns in the vocal displays of other ***,the study of rhythm is becoming essential to understand the mechanisms of singing behavior and the evolution of human *** fndings provided evidence that particular rhythmic structures occur in human music and some singing animal species,such as birds and rock hyraxes,but only 2 species of nonhuman primates have been investigated so far(Indri indri and Hylobates lar).Therefore,our study aims to consistently broaden the list of species studied regarding the presence of rhythmic *** investigated the temporal organization in the singing of 3 species of crested gibbons(Nomascus gabriellae,Nomascus leucogenys,and Nomascus siki)and found that the most prominent rhythmic category was ***,we found slight variation in songs’tempo among species,with *** and *** singing with a temporal pattern involving a gradually increasing tempo(a musical accelerando),and *** with a more regular ***,we show how the prominence of a peak at the isochrony establishes itself as a shared characteristic in the small apes considered so far.

Finding a solution to the coastal risks that are becoming recurrent in Côte d’Ivoire, including the risk of flooding, data collection has been undertaken on the entire coast. High spatial resolution images such as the SRTM images were used to be processed in the Qgis software to evaluate with high precision the overflow hazards of the coastal courses from Tabou to Sassandra, located on the west coast of the country. To do this, the layers of the processed slopes were superimposed on those of the rivers to assess the risks of overflow in the coastal areas concerned. It appears that these areas are marked by low slopes (<16.3%), or even none, likely to increase the intensity of the hazards of overflow of the Sassandra river in Sassandra and the Djiboué lagoon in San-Pédro. The foreseeable risks associated with simulations of overflow distances of 100 to 500 m of the rivers constitute threats to the port activities of San-Pédro that can cause big economic losses for the country, businesses, tourism activities and lodge complexes, coastal resources, and housing. An interactive cartography interface could make it possible to better visualize the results of the processing carried out in a Websig with a view to proposing sustainable solutions for the development of the Integrated Coastal Development and Management Plan of the Ivorian coastal area.

Cyclophosphamide-induced reproductive toxicity: Beneficial effects of Helichrysum odoratissimum(Asteraceae) in male Wistar rats

Objective: Cyclophosphamide(CP) is commonly used to treat some cancers, but its clinical efficacy is also linked with testicular toxicity. We investigated the effects of aqueous extract(AE) and methanolic extract(ME) of Helichrysum odoratissimum for reducing CP-induced reproductive toxicity in male ***: In addition to a normal control(group 1), drugs or vehicles were administered orally to seven groups(n = 5) of rats that had already received 4-weeks of pre-treatment with CP(5 mg/[kgád], per oral administration);group 2 received CP + distilled water(10 m L/[kgád]);group 3 received CP + 5% tween 80(10 m L/[kgád]);group 4 received CP + clomiphene citrate(0.25 mg/[kgád]);groups 5 and 6 received CP + AE(50 and 100 mg/[kgád]) and groups 7 and 8 received CP + ME(50 and 100 mg/[kgád]). Animals were sacrificed on day 15, and body and sexual organ weights, sperm characteristics, testosterone level and testicular histology were ***: The CP-treated group showed a significant reduction(P < 0.001) in the body and seminal vesicle weights, testosterone level, sperm count, sperm motility and sperm viability, but elevated(P < 0.001)sperm morphological abnormalities and testicular structure alterations, compared to the control ***, these detrimental effects of CP were reversed by treatment with H. odoratissimum *** instance, both extracts and all doses of H. odoratissimum significantly increased the sperm count(P < 0.001), sperm motility(AE, 50 mg/kg, P < 0.05;ME, 50 and 100 mg/kg, P < 0.05) and sperm viability(AE, 50 mg/kg, P < 0.001;ME, 50 and 100 mg/kg, P < 0.001) compared to the CP group. H. odoratissimum also improved plasmatic and intratesticular testosterone levels and prevented histological alterations of the ***: H. odoratissimum might be considered as an alternative drug to alleviate/prevent reproductive damage in cancer patients receiving CP chemotherapy.
