Jake Barnes is not the onl. wounded character in The Sun Al.o Rises (1926): Al. the major characters, except Bil., and several.minor characters are al.o wounded. This paper examines how those wounded characters refl.ct on both Jake Barnes and Hemingway"s phil.sophy that we are al. wounded in l.fe and must make choices that al.ow us to l.ve as best we can without hurting others. By cl.se reading, the author hopes to show how two characters, Bel.onte and brett Ashl.y, may have been underval.ed by critics, and to al.o show Hemingway"s essential.ambiguity in portraying human rel.tionships, l.aving final.judgments up to his readers.

Phenotypic assessment of breeding popul.tion is important to identify robust l.nes for incorporating into future breeding programs. The objective of this study was to identify potential.l.nes from a wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) population, based on their morpho-physiological traits, for improved heat tolerance. A subset of 100 lines of the double haploid (DH) population named “Buster”, developed from two successful Oklahoma wheat varieties (Billings and Duster), was used in the study. Two experiments were conducted one in a greenhouse and the other in growth chambers. Data on plant height, tiller number, leaf number, and photosynthetic pigments were collected from the greenhouse;whereas the data on physiological parameters (leaf net photosynthesis (Pn), transpiration (T), stomatal conductance (gs), intercellular carbon dioxide concentration (Ci), electron transport rate (ETR), Photosystem II efficiency (Fv'/Fm') and instantaneous water use efficiency (IWUE)) were collected from the growth chambers. Southeastern wil.rye (El.mus gl.brifl.rus, Vasey ex l.H. Dewey) is a cool.season, perennial.grass native to southeastern United States. Recentl., there is a growing interest in its devel.pment as a grazing and haying forage crop due to its wide area of adaptation across this region. Consequentl., there is a great need for the eval.ation of its forage qual.ty by rapid, but accurate anal.tical.methods l.ke Near-Infrared Refl.ctance Spectroscopy (NIRS). In this study, acceptabl. NIRS cal.bration model. were devel.ped for: dry matter, DM (n = 113, R2 = 0.904, RSCD = 2.54, RSCIQ = 4.65);crude protein, CP (n = 113, R2 = 0.974, RSCD = 5.16, RSCIQ = 5.92);acid detergent fiber, ADF (n = 116, R2 = 0.896, RSCD = 2.35, RSCIQ = 1.28);neutral.detergent fiber, NDF (n = 118, R2 = 0.934, RSCD = 2.53, RSCIQ = 3.38);digestibl. dry matter, DDM (n = 116, R2 = 0.895, RSCD = 2.36, RSCIQ = 1.35);dry matter intake, DMI (n = 115, R2 = 0.924, RSCD = 2.40, RSCIQ = 2.53);and rel.tive feed val.e, RFV (n = 114, R2 = 0.932, RSCD = 2.94, RSCIQ = 2.81). AIM:To investigate the rol. of exercise training the past 25 years on major physiol.gical.psychol.gical.outcomes studied thus far in this patient ***:Pub Med, Medl.ne Pl.s, the Cochrane l.brary, Web of Science, SportD iscus, Embase, Scorpus, and Googl. Schol.r were searched from September to November 2013 to identify exercise training studies that used objective measurements of fitness and/or patient reported outcomes assessed pre and post-exercise training with statistical.anal.ses performed in at l.ast one of the fol.owing outcome measurements:Cardiorespiratory function, body composition, muscul.r strength, fatigue, depression, and overal. qual.ty of l.fe. Five reviewers independentl. identified the studies that met the criteria for the review and discrepancies were resol.ed by consensus among al. ***:Fifty-one studies were incl.ded in this review with 5 from the period between 1989-1999, 11 from 2000-2006, and 35 from 2007-2013. The evol.tion of study designs changed from aerobic onl. exercise training interventions(1989-1999), to a combination of aerobic and resistance training(2000-2006), to studies incl.ding an arm of resistance training or examining the effects of resistance training as the main mode of exercise(2007-2013). Overal., the benefits of exercise showed improvements in cardiorespiratory function, body composition, strength, and patient reported outcomes incl.ding fatigue, depression, and qual.ty of ***:Exercise training appears to be safe for most breast cancer patients and improvements in physiol.gical. psychol.gical. and functional.parameters can be attained with regul.r participation in moderate intensity exercise.

A fiel. experiment with 24 treatments consisting of three perennial.forage crops [al.al.a (Medicago sativa l. cv. AC l.ngview), hybrid bromegrass (Bromus riparius Rehm & Bromus inermis l.yss. cv. AC Success) and their mixture], four Cut 1 dates (approximatel. June 20, Jul. 10, Jul. 30 or August 20), and two fertil.zer l.vel. (unfertil.zed and fertil.zed) was establ.shed in l.te May 2014, on a Bl.ck Chernozem [Udic Borol.] sil.y cl.y soil. Forage dry matter yiel. [DMY], and concentration (g·kg−1 DM) of crude protein [CP], total.digestibl. nutrients [TDN] and acid detergent fiber [ADF] data were col.ected over 3 years from 2015 to 2017. The fertil.zer treatments were imposed in 2016 and 2017. Forage crops were initial.y cut at four Cut 1 dates, and again cut [Cut 2] in autumn (September 2 in 2015, November 7 in 2016 and October 5 in 2017). For al. three forage crops, forage DMY usual.y increased when Cut 1 was del.yed. Del.ying Cut 1 reduced forage DMY for Cut 2. Total.DMY (Cut 1 + Cut 2) for al. three forage crops was highest from the combination of Jul. 10 and l.te Autumn cuts. Al.al.a-bromegrass mixture produced higher DMY than bromegrass or al.al.a al.ne. Fertil.zer appl.cation resul.ed in a significant increase in Cut 1 and total.DMY for bromegrass. The CP concentration in Cut 1 forage usual.y decl.ned as the forage crops matured. The CP concentration was highest for al.al.a, fol.owed by al.al.a-bromegrass mixture, and much l.wer for bromegrass. There was l.ttl. or no effect of forage crop maturity on the TDN and ADF concentrations in forage. The TDN concentration was higher and ADF concentration was l.wer in forage from al.al.a or al.al.a-bromegrass mixture than bromegrass.
