Small-scale self-driving cars:A systematic literature review

The autonomous vehicle(AV)technology has the potential to significantly improve safety and efficiency of the transportation and logistics industry.Full-scale AV testing is limited by time,space,and cost,while simulation-based testing often lacks the necessary accuracy of AV and environmental modeling.In recent years,several initiatives have emerged to test autonomous software and hardware on scaled vehicles.This systematic literature review provides an overview of the literature surrounding small-scale self-driving cars,summarizing the current autonomous platforms deployed and focusing on the software and hardware developments in this field.The studies published in English-language journals or conference papers that present small-scale testing of self-driving cars were included.Web of Science,Scopus,Springer Link,Wiley,ACM Digital Library,and TRID databases were used for the literature search.The systematic literature search found 38 eligible studies.Research gaps in the reviewed papers were identified to provide guidance for future research.Some key takeaway emerging from this manuscript are:(i)there is a need to improve the models and neural network architectures used in autonomous driving systems,as most papers present only preliminary results;(ii)increasing datasets and sharing databases can help in developing more reliable control policies and reducing bias and variance in the training process;(iii)small-scaled vehicles to ensure safety is a major benefit,and incorporating data about unsafe driving behaviors and infrastructure problems can improve the accuracy of predictive models.

In this work,we report long-term trends in the abundance and breeding performance of Adélie penguins(Pygoscelis adeliae)nesting in three Antarctic colonies(i.e.,at Martin Point,South Orkneys Islands;Stranger Point/Cabo Funes,South Shetland Islands;and Esperanza/Hope Bay in the Antarctic Peninsula)from 1995/96 to 2022/23.Using yearly count data of breeding groups selected,we observed a decline in the number of breeding pairs and chicks in crèche at all colonies studied.However,the magnitude of change was higher at Stranger Point than that in the remaining colonies.Moreover,the index of breeding success,which was calculated as the ratio of chicks in crèche to breeding pairs,exhibited no apparent trend throughout the study period.However,it displayed greater variability at Martin Point compared to the other two colonies under investigation.Although the number of chicks in crèche of Adélie penguins showed a declining pattern,the average breeding performance was similar to that reported in gentoo penguin colonies,specifically,those undergoing a population increase(even in sympatric colonies facing similar local conditions).Consequently,it is plausible to assume a reduction of the over-winter survival as a likely cause of the declining trend observed,at least in the Stranger Point and Esperanza colonies.However,we cannot rule out local effects during the breeding season affecting the Adélie population of Martin Point.

Purpose-The endless hunt for innovation in extreme competitive markets has forced companies to come up with new strategies to attract or keep their consumers.Accordingly,cooperation between brands has become a common and profitable strategy and more particularly co-branding.Past studies have suggested the role of brand positioning perceptions and the positioning perceptions of cobrands.This study aims to test those assumptions and therefore further investigate the impact of brand positioning strategies on consumer perceptions of cobrands.Design/methodology/approach – The research represents a scenario-based experimental design using hypothetical brand alliances of existing and familiar brands.In order to validate and generalize the research,2 hypothetical brandpairings scenarios were integrated covering different types of markets.The purpose of the questionnaire was to collect consumer’s positioning perceptions of the partnering brands at three different stages;pre-alliance,during the alliance and post-alliance which represents our three hypotheses.H1: Pre-alliance positioning perceptions toward partner brands A and B are positively related to positioning perceptions of the cobrand AB.H2: Consumer post-alliance positioning perceptions of partner brands A and B are positively related to the positioning of cobrand AB.H3: Pre-alliance positioning perceptions of brand A and B are positively related to post – alliance positioning perceptions of brand A and B.The perception of each stages was analyzed according to the consumer-derived generic typology of positioning strategy.The data was collected through a quantitative questionnaire of 176 respondents.Data was analyzed with the use of the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient（PPMC）which tested the assumptions with the examination of correlation or lack of correlation between the data sets for each of the partner brands pairings at the three data stages.Findings – This research demonstrated the influence of co-branding as an efficient strategy for enhancing or

Stable isotope analysis is a widely used method for gathering ecological insights into the diet and feeding habitats of various species. While captive studies often limit lethal sampling and differ from wild conditions, they offer valuable insights into inherent isotopic variations among individuals, which are often assumed to reflect differences between natural populations. In the Sea Turtle Conservation Program, loggerhead turtle hatchlings from different nests were fed. Necropsies were conducted on turtles that died during this period, obtaining bone fragments for analysis. We evaluated the isotopic variation of carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) in bone tissue across six turtle nests (n = 66 samples) and assessed differences in Straight Carapace Length (SCL, n = 71 samples). Using SIBER and nicheROVER in R, we calculated niche width and overlap, while the simmr package determined primary prey assimilation. Despite feeding the hatchlings the same prey, we observed variations in nitrogen isotope assimilation between nests. Nests 4 and 6 had a niche width >1.8‰, indicating consistent consumption frequencies across all prey and >70% niche overlap with other nests. In contrast, nests 1 and 2 showed a narrower niche width (Mugil sp. constituted the primary diet component (>40%) across all groups. This study demonstrates how factors like competition or prey preference can influence the assimilation of diet, even when the source remains constant (inherent variation).

Background: Intussusception is defined as a telescoping of a proximal gastrointestinal segment with its mesentery to a distal one, only 5% occur in adults and in colon the probability that it is caused by a malignant disease is up to 65%. Only 1% occurs in a retrograde manner, the rest occur in an anterograde manner. Aim: Describe the clinical presentation of an intussusception in the adult patient as well as its most frequent causes and possible complications that influence decision making for a definitive treatment. Case Presentation: A 66-year-old woman diagnosed with colon adenocarcinoma who underwent elective transverse colectomy and colonic anastomosis with an incidental finding of a transverse colon tumor in a retrograde intussusception was studied. Conclusion: In any adult patient with an intussusception especially in colon a neoplasia should be suspected and the affected segment should be resected without being reduced due to the risk of perforation and tumor dissemination.

Background: Evidence regarding the effectiveness of prenatal nutritional supplements has mainly considered anthropometric pregnancy outcomes. The effect on markers of health and disease， such as offspring telomere length (TL) and mitochondrial DNA content (mtDNAc) is unknown. Objectives: We assessed the efficacy of maternal multiple micronutrient (MMN)-fortified balanced-energy protein (BEP) and iron-folic acid (IFA) supplementation on newborn TL as a secondary outcome and mtDNAc as a non-declared outcome. Design: We conducted a randomized controlled trial in rural Burkina Faso， among pregnant females (15-40 years old) enrolled at 0.05) by adjusting the regression models for potential prognostic factors of study outcomes at enrollment. Exploratory analyses indicated higher， but non-significantly different mtDNAc among children born either small-for-gestational age， low birthweight， or preterm. Conclusions: Newborns from mothers who received daily nutritional supplements across gestation did not have different relative TL or mtDNAc.

Background Pan-genomics is a recently emerging strategy that can be utilized to provide a more comprehensive characterization of genetic variation.Joint calling is routinely used to combine identified variants across multiple related samples.However,the improvement of variants identification using the mutual support information from mul-tiple samples remains quite limited for population-scale genotyping.Results In this study,we developed a computational framework for joint calling genetic variants from 5,061 sheep by incorporating the sequencing error and optimizing mutual support information from multiple samples’data.The variants were accurately identified from multiple samples by using four steps:(1)Probabilities of variants from two widely used algorithms,GATK and Freebayes,were calculated by Poisson model incorporating base sequencing error potential;(2)The variants with high mapping quality or consistently identified from at least two samples by GATK and Freebayes were used to construct the raw high-confidence identification(rHID)variants database;(3)The high confidence variants identified in single sample were ordered by probability value and controlled by false discovery rate(FDR)using rHID database;(4)To avoid the elimination of potentially true variants from rHID database,the vari-ants that failed FDR were reexamined to rescued potential true variants and ensured high accurate identification variants.The results indicated that the percent of concordant SNPs and Indels from Freebayes and GATK after our new method were significantly improved 12%-32%compared with raw variants and advantageously found low frequency variants of individual sheep involved several traits including nipples number(GPC5),scrapie pathology(PAPSS2),sea-sonal reproduction and litter size(GRM1),coat color(RAB27A),and lentivirus susceptibility(TMEM154).Conclusion The new method used the computational strategy to reduce the number of false positives,and simulta-neously improve the identification of genetic variants.This strategy did not

AIM: To assess the association between buried optic disc drusen(BODD) location using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT) and the location of associated visual field defects(VFD) using the Garway-Heath mapping.METHODS: This monocentric retrospective crosssectional study was led at the authors’ institution. Adult patients diagnosed with BODD who had complete records with a reliable Humphrey? 24-2 visual field, macular, and papillary OCT were enrolled. Fisher’s exact test was used to measure the association between BODD location and VFD distribution according to Garway-Heath’s mapping.RESULTS: Totally 20 eyes of 15 patients were included(60% females). The median age(interquartile range) was 63(43)y and the median best corrected visual acuity(BCVA) was-0.08(0.08) log MAR. BODD were mostly located in zones A, E, and F. The minimal rim width(MRW) was globally preserved. The retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL) was predominantly altered in zones D, E, and F. There was a significant correlation between BODD location and that of RNFL alterations in zones D(P=0.03) and E(P=0.025);Moreover, the presence of BODD in the E zone was significantly related to damaged RNFL in the neighbouring sectors D and F(P=0.012;P=0.02 respectively). Sixty-three percent(12/19) of visual fields were abnormal and there was a significant match(Phi=0.7, P=0.009) between drusen location and VFD only in zone D.CONCLUSION: BODD do not only affect young patients and can be more harmful than usually expected, as we found VFD in 63% of cases. There is a correspondence between BODD location, RNFL damage, and VFD distributions. The presence of BODD induces the overestimation of MRW,thereby disrupting its sensitivity as an early indicator of ganglion fibers damage.
