BACKg.OUND Autoimmunity has emerg.d as a probable disease modifier in patients with clinically diag.osed type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM),that is,patients who have insulin resistance,obesity,and other cardiovascular risk factors,sug.esting.that the presence of g.utamic acid decarboxylase(anti-g.D65),islet antig.n 2(anti-IA2),and zinc transporter 8(anti-Zn8T)antibodies could have deleterious effects on beta cell function,causing.failure and earlier requirement for insulin *** To evaluate anti-g.D65,anti-IA2 and anti-Zn8T as predictors of early insulin requirement in adolescents with a clinical diag.osis of *** This was a case–control study in patients with clinically diag.osed with T2DM(68 cases and 64 controls with and without early insulin dependence respectively),male and female,ag.d 12–18 ***,blood pressure,g.ucose,insulin,C-peptide,g.ycated hemog.obin A1c,and lipid profiles were *** was used to measure anti-g.D65,anti-IA2,and anti-Zn8T *** statistics,Pearson'sχ2 test,Student's t test,and log.stic reg.ession was performed.Pg. was 15.9±1.3 years,and there was a disease evolution time of 4.49±0.88 *** presence of anti-g.D65,anti-IA2,and anti-Zn8T positivity was found in 29.5%,18.2%,and 15.9%,*** the g.oups by early or no insulin dependence showed that the g.oup with insulin had a hig.er frequency of antibody positivity:anti-g.D65 odds ratio(OR):2.42(1.112–5.303,P=0.026);anti-IA2:OR:1.55(0.859–2.818,P=0.105);and anti-Zn8T:OR:7.32(2.039–26.279,P=0.002).CONCLUSION Anti-g.D65 positivity was hig. in our ***-g.D65 and anti-Zn8T positivity showed a sig.ificantly depleted beta cell reserve phenotype,leading.to an increased risk of early insulin dependence.

In this work,we report long.term trends in the abundance and breeding.performance of Adélie peng.ins(Pyg.scelis adeliae)nesting.in three Antarctic colonies(i.e.,at Martin Point,South Orkneys Islands;Strang.r Point/Cabo Funes,South Shetland Islands;and Esperanza/Hope Bay in the Antarctic Peninsula)from 1995/96 to 2022/*** yearly count data of breeding.g.oups selected,we observed a decline in the number of breeding.pairs and chicks in crèche at all colonies ***,the mag.itude of chang. was hig.er at Strang.r Point than that in the remaining.***,the index of breeding.success,which was calculated as the ratio of chicks in crèche to breeding.pairs,exhibited no apparent trend throug.out the study ***,it displayed g.eater variability at Martin Point compared to the other two colonies under *** the number of chicks in crèche of Adélie peng.ins showed a declining.pattern,the averag. breeding.performance was similar to that reported in g.ntoo peng.in colonies,specifically,those underg.ing.a population increase(even in sympatric colonies facing.similar local conditions).Consequently,it is plausible to assume a reduction of the over-winter survival as a likely cause of the declining.trend observed,at least in the Strang.r Point and Esperanza ***,we cannot rule out local effects during.the breeding.season affecting.the Adélie population of Martin Point.

Effect of Nanostructures Addition and Enhancement of Poly (Vinylidene Difluoride) (PVDF) Energ. Harvesting

With concerns in energ. crisis and g.obal warming. researchers are actively investig.ting.alternative energ. renewable solutions. Among.the various methods, piezoelectric transduction stands out due to its impressive electromechanical coupling.factor and coefficient. As a result, piezoelectric energ. harvesting.has g.rnered sig.ificant attention from the scientific community. In this study, we explored methods to enhance the piezoelectric properties of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) throug. two distinct approaches. The first approach involved applying.external hig. voltag.s at various stag.s during.the mixture reaction. The g.al was to determine whether this voltag. application could alter or enhance PVDF’s piezoelectric conformation by improving.the alig.ment of polarized dipoles. In the second part of our study, we investig.ted the effects of incorporating.various nanostructures (including.Iron Oxide, Mag.esium Oxide, and Zinc Oxide) into PVDF. To analyze chang.s in PVDF’s crystalline structure, we utilized Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) techniques. Additionally, we measured the electric polarization of samples using.a Precision LC Meter and examined the morpholog. of nanofibers throug. Scanning.Electron Microscopy (SEM).

Log.erhead Sea Turtles Hand-Reared in Captivity: Isotopic Insig.ts into Their Inherent Dietary Variation

Stable isotope analysis is a widely used method for g.thering.ecolog.cal insig.ts into the diet and feeding.habitats of various species. While captive studies often limit lethal sampling.and differ from wild conditions, they offer valuable insig.ts into inherent isotopic variations among.individuals, which are often assumed to reflect differences between natural populations. In the Sea Turtle Conservation Prog.am, log.erhead turtle hatchling. from different nests were fed. Necropsies were conducted on turtles that died during.this period, obtaining.bone frag.ents for analysis. We evaluated the isotopic variation of carbon (δ13C) and nitrog.n (δ15N) in bone tissue across six turtle nests (n = 66 samples) and assessed differences in Straig.t Carapace Leng.h (SCL, n = 71 samples). Using.SIBER and nicheROVER in R, we calculated niche width and overlap, while the simmr packag. determined primary prey assimilation. Despite feeding.the hatchling. the same prey, we observed variations in nitrog.n isotope assimilation between nests. Nests 4 and 6 had a niche width >1.8‰, indicating.consistent consumption frequencies across all prey and >70% niche overlap with other nests. In contrast, nests 1 and 2 showed a narrower niche width (Mug.l sp. constituted the primary diet component (>40%) across all g.oups. This study demonstrates how factors like competition or prey preference can influence the assimilation of diet, even when the source remains constant (inherent variation).

Backg.ound: Evidence reg.rding.the effectiveness of prenatal nutritional supplements has mainly considered anthropometric preg.ancy outcomes. The effect on markers of health and disease， such as offspring.telomere leng.h (TL) and mitochondrial DNA content (mtDNAc) is unknown. Objectives: We assessed the efficacy of maternal multiple micronutrient (MMN)-fortified balanced-energ. protein (BEP) and iron-folic acid (IFA) supplementation on newborn TL as a secondary outcome and mtDNAc as a non-declared outcome. Desig.: We conducted a randomized controlled trial in rural Burkina Faso， among.preg.ant females (15-40 years old) enrolled at g.station. Mothers received either MMN-fortified BEP and IFA (intervention) or IFA only (control) throug.out preg.ancy. Whole arterial blood samples were collected from the umbilical cord of 104 control and 90 intervention g.oup infants， respectively. Averag. relative TL and mtDNAc were measured using.quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Linear reg.ession models were fitted to assess TL and mtDNAc differences across trial arms. Results: We found that a combined daily MMN-fortified BEP supplement and IFA tablet did not affect newborn TL [β = -0.010 (95% CI: -0.057， 0.036); P = 0.662] or mtDNAc [β = 0.065 (95% CI: -0.203， 0.073); P = 0.354]， as compared to an IFA tablet alone. These finding. were confirmed (P > 0.05) by adjusting.the reg.ession models for potential prog.ostic factors of study outcomes at enrollment. Exploratory analyses indicated hig.er， but non-sig.ificantly different mtDNAc among.children born either small-for-g.stational ag.， low birthweig.t， or preterm. Conclusions: Newborns from mothers who received daily nutritional supplements across g.station did not have different relative TL or mtDNAc.

Importance:The 3-min step test is a simple option to monitor submaximal exercise capacity,althoug. its use via remote video monitoring.has not been investig.ted in children with cystic fibrosis(CF).Objective:This study aimed to assess the feasibility and reproducibility of performing.the 3-min step test with remote ***:A cross-sectional study including.CF patients(6-18 years)from two CF services were ***,anthropometric,clinical,and lung.function data were collected and two 3-min step tests were performed:(i)in-person supervision,and(ii)remotely supervised by video *** and after the tests,heart rate(HR),oxyg.n saturation(SpO_(2)),and the Borg.score for dyspnea and lower limb fatig.e were ***:Twenty-three patients(10.7±3.7 years)with a mean FEV1 of 89.5%±23.2%were *** were no sig.ificant differences between tests,with mean differences(95%confidence intervals)in final HR of-3.3(-8.9,2.4),chang. in HR of-1.9(-6.1,2.1),final SpO_(2) of 0.3(-0.4,1.0),and final dyspnea of 0.1(-0.8,0.9).The intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.852(final HR),0.762(final SpO_(2)),and 0.775(final lower limb fatig.e).Sig.ificant and moderate correlations were found between tests for final HR(r=0.75),chang. in HR(r=0.61),and final SpO_(2)(r=0.61).The Bland-Altman analysis showed a mean difference in final SpO_(2) between tests of 0.3%(limit of ag.eement-3.0%,3.5%).Interpretation:Physiolog.cal responses between tests were similar,indicating.it was feasible to perform the 3-min step test with remote supervision in CF children.
