Gene capture by transposable elements leads to epigenetic conflict in maize

In this work, we make a number of proposals to explain how a world of (4 + 4)-dimensions can be useful for a better understanding of both dark matter and quantum gravity. The key idea is to look for some advantage of considering self-dual invariants in (4 + 4)-dimensions rather than in a separate context of (1 + 3)-dimensions or (3 + 1)-dimensions. In fact, we show that by considering the duality concept in (4 + 4)-dimensions we may provide an alternative meaning of a framework for loop quantum gravity. moreover, considering the Dirac equation in (4 + 4)-dimensions for a particle without electric charge and mass, we show that when it is projected into the (1 + 3) and (3 + 1)-worlds may describe a system with electric charge and mass. We also discuss the relation between the three physical scenarios;(4 + 4)-world, black-holes and dark matter.

Aerosol printing and photonic sintering of bioresorbable zinc nanoparticle ink for transient electronics manufacturing

Bioresorbable electronics technology can potentially lead to revolutionary applications in healthcare, consumer electronics, and data security. This technology has been demonstrated by various functional devices. However, majority of these devices are realized by CmOS fabrication approaches involving complex and time-consuming processes that are high in cost and low in yield. Printing electronics technology represents a series of printing and post processing techniques that hold promise to make high performance bioresorbable electronics devices. But investigation of printing approaches for bioresorbable electronics is very limited. Here we demonstrate fabrication of conductive bioresorbable patterns using aerosol printing and photonic sintering approaches. Experimental results and simulation reveals that ink compositions, photonic energy, film thickness, and ventilation conditions may influence the effect of photonic sintering. A maximum conductivity of 22321.3 S/m can be achieved using 1 flash with energy of 25.88 J/cm~2 with duration of 2 ms. By combining two cascaded sintering procedures using flash light and laser further improve the conductivity to 34722.2 S/m. The results indicate that aerosol printing and photonic sintering can potentially yield mass fabrication of bioresorbable electronics, leading to prevalence of printable bioresorbable technology in consumer electronics and biomedical devices.

Percutaneous coronary intervention of totally occluded coronary venous bypass grafts:An exercise in futility?

BACKGROUND Percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)of diseased saphenous vein grafts(SVG)continues to pose a clinical *** PCI guidelines give a class III recommendation against performing PCI on chronically occluded ***,contemporary outcomes after SVG intervention have incrementally improved with distal protection devices,intracoronary vasodilators,drug-eluting stents,and prolonged dual antiplatelet *** To reassess the procedural and long-term outcomes of PCI for totally occluded SVG with contemporary *** This was a retrospective observational study conducted at a single university *** study population consisted of 35 consecutive patients undergoing PCI of totally occluded ***-procedure dual antiplatelet therapy was continued for a minimum of one year and aspirin was continued *** outcomes were assessed at a mean follow-up of 1221±1038 *** primary outcome was freedom from a major adverse cardiac event(mACE)defined as the occurrence of any of the following:death,myocardial infarction,stroke,repeat bypass surgery,repeat PCI,or graft *** The study group included 29 men and 6 women with a mean age of 69±12 *** was present in 14(40%)*** patients had Canadian Heart Classification class III or IV *** presentation was an acute coronary syndrome in 34(97%)*** SVG age was 12±5 *** duration of occlusion was acute(24 h to 30 d)in 26%,and late(>30 d)in 40%.PCI was initially successful in 29/35 SVG occlusions(83%).Total stent length was 52±35 *** complications of distal embolization or no-reflow occurred in 6(17%)*** longer term follow-up,mACE-free survival was only 30%at 3 years and 17%at 5 *** PCI of totally occluded SVG can be performed with a high procedural success ***,its clinical utility remains limited by poor follow-up outcomes.

BACKGROUND The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has made it more challenging for patients to undergo yttrium-90(Y-90)radioembolization(RE).Same day Y-90 RE provides an opportunity to minimize logistical challenges and infection risk associated with COVID-19,thus improving patient *** To describe the use of same day Y-90 RE with routine single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography(SPECT/CT)in order to optimize *** All patients were selected for Y-90 RE through a multidisciplinary tumor board,and were screened and tested for COVID-19 infection per institutional protocol.A same day procedure was developed,consisting of angiography,imaging,and Y-90 resin particle *** SPECT/CT after technetium-99m macroaggregated albumin(Tc-99m mAA)administration was performed for assessment of arterial supply,personalized dosimetry,and extrahepatic ***-treatment Y-90 bremsstrahlung SPECT/CT was performed for confirmation of particle delivery,by utilization of energy windowing to limit signal from previously administered Tc-99m mAA *** A total of 14 patients underwent same day Y-90 RE between march and June *** lung shunt fraction was 6.13%(range 3.5%-13.1%).Y-90 RE was performed for a single lesion in 7 patients,while the remaining 7 patients had treatment of multifocal *** largest lesion measured 8.3 *** patients tolerated the procedure well and were discharged the same *** Same day Y-90 RE with resin-based microspheres is feasible,and provides an opportunity to mitigate infection risk and logistical challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and *** recommend consideration of SPECT/CT,especially among patients with complex malignancies,for the potential to improve outcomes and eligibility of patients to undergo same day Y-90 RE.

Hospital outcomes and early readmission for the most common gastrointestinal and liver diseases in the United States:Implications for healthcare delivery

BACKGROUND Gastrointestinal(GI)and liver diseases contribute to substantial inpatient morbidity,mortality,and healthcare resource *** ways to reduce the economic burden of healthcare costs and the impact of these diseases is of crucial ***-day readmission rates and related hospital outcomes can serve as objective measures to assess the impact of and provide further insights into the most common GI *** To identify the thirty-day readmission rates with related predictors and outcomes of hospitalization of the most common GI and liver diseases in the United *** A cross-sectional analysis of the 2012 National Inpatient Sample was performed to identify the 13 most common GI *** 2013 Nationwide Readmission Database was then queried with specific International Classification of Diseases,Ninth Revision,Clinical modification *** outcomes were mortality(index admission,calendar-year),hospitalization costs,and thirty-day readmission and secondary outcomes were predictors of thirty-day *** For the year 2013,the thirteen most common GI diseases contributed to 2.4 million index hospitalizations accounting for about$25 *** thirty-day readmission rates were highest for chronic liver disease(25.4%),Clostridium difficile(***)infection(23.6%),functional/motility disorders(18.5%),inflammatory bowel disease(16.3%),and GI bleeding(15.5%).The highest index and subsequent calendar-year hospitalization mortality rates were chronic liver disease(6.1%and 12.6%),*** infection(2.3%and 6.1%),and GI bleeding(2.2%and 5.0%),***-day readmission correlated with any subsequent admission mortality(r=0.798,P=0.001).medicare/medicaid insurances,≥3 Elixhauser comorbidities,and length of stay>3 d were significantly associated with thirty-day readmission for all the thirteen GI *** Preventable and non-chronic GI disease contributed to a significant economic and health

Complementarities between wind and wave energies have many significant advantages that are unavailable with the sole deployment of either. Using all available wind speed, significant wave height, and wave period buoy observations over a 10-year period(i.e., 2009–2019), colocated wind and wave energy resources are estimated. Although buoy records are imperfect, results show that the inner Caribbean Sea(CS) under the influence of the Caribbean low-level jet has the highest wind energy resource at ～ 1500 W/m~2, followed by the outer CS at ～ 600 W/m~2 and Atlantic Ocean(AO) at ～ 550–600 W/m~2 at a 100 m height. Wave energy was most abundant in the AO at 14 kW/m, followed by the inner CS at 13 kW/m and outer CS at 5 kW/m. The average and dominant wave energies can reach a maximum of 10 and 14 kW/m, respectively. Asymmetry between wind and wave energy resources is observed in the AO, where wave energy is higher than the low wind speed/energy would suggest. Swell is responsible for this discrepancy; thus, it must be considered not only for wave energy extraction but also for wind turbine fatigue, stability, and power extraction efficiency.

The exploitation of wind energy is rapidly evolving and is manifested in the ever-expanding global network of offshore wind energy *** the Small Island Developing States of the Caribbean Sea(CS),harnessing this mature technology is an important first step in the transition away from fossil *** paper uses buoy and satellite observations of surface wind speed in the CS to estimate wind energy resources over the 2009–201911-year period and initiates hour-ahead forecasting using the long short-term memory(LSTm)*** of wind power density(WPD)at the 100-m height showed a mean of approximately 1000 W/m^(2) in the Colombia Basin,though this value decreases radially to 600–800 W/m^(2) in the central CS to a minimum of approximately 250 W/m^(2) at its borders in the Venezuela *** Caribbean Low-Level Jet(CLLJ)is also responsible for the waxing and waning of surface wind speed and as such,resource stability,though stable as estimated through monthly and seasonal coefficients of variation,is naturally governed by CLLJ *** a commercially available offshore wind turbine,wind energy generation at four locations in the CS is *** production is greatest and most stable in the central CS than at either its eastern or western *** speed forecasts are also found to be more accurate at this location,and though technology currently restricts offshore wind turbines to shallow water,outward migration to and colonization of deeper water is an attractive option for energy exploitation.
