Botanical gardens represent important places for ex situ *** of these botanical gardens has been abandoned in Côte d’Ivoire for 30 *** is the former botanical garden of *** study was conducted to determine the level of diversity of this former garden in order to assess the opportunity for its *** authors carried out inventories in 18 quadrats of 500 m2 through the vegetation to collect woody *** measurements(height,diameter)were also recorded to assess the structure of the site.A total of 190 species have been *** belong to 141 genera and 47 *** former botanical garden contains important species because of their origin,status or particularity(threatened,endemic,rarity,etc.).A total of 19 threatened species including 2 endangered and west African endemic(Chrysophyllum azaguieanum ***ège,Placodiscus pseudostipularis)were found at the ***,Chrysophyllum azaguieanum is declared extinct from Côte d’*** species are rare in the flora of Côte d’Ivoire:Balanites wilsoniana,Chrysophyllum azaguieanum,Gilletiodendron kisantuense and Loesenera *** most abundant species is Hopea *** this introduced species is considered globally vulnerable,it presents a risk of invasion in the forest of Côte d’*** diameter and height structures show that all the stages of development are presented indicating a good regeneration on the ***,this botanical garden deserves to be rehabilitated and especially urgent management of Hopea odorata is needed to prevent an invasion of this species.

Stand Structure,Allometric Equations,Biomass and Carbon Sequestration Capacity of Acacia mangium Wild.(Mimosaceae)in Cote d’Ivoire

In addition to bioenergy production, Acacia magium, a fast growing species, plays a major role in climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration from the atmosphere. The objective of this study was to improve estimates of aboveground biomass of 3, 7 and 11 years old stands of Acacia mangium set up through natural regeneration at Anguédédou in C?te d’Ivoire. Tree measurements were done in circular plots of 615 m2 located at the center of each stand. 24 trees of circumference at breast height (cbh) between 31 and 116 cm were felled, weighed and measured. Multiple linear regressions were used to develop allometric equations linking aboveground biomass of trees to cbh and/or height. The carbon stock and sequestration capacity of each stand was assessed using these predictive models. The average cbh was 39.4 cm, 73.5 cm and 91.4 cm respectively for 3, 7 and 11 years old stands with a density ranging between 845 trees·ha-1 and 553 trees·ha-1. The allometric equations for biomass estimation were Btotal aboveground = exp(-3.455 + 2.081 × ln(C)), Btrunk = exp (-5.153 + 1.681 × ln(C) + 1.056 × ln(H)), Bbranches = exp(-2.005 + 0.498 × ln(C2 × H)), Bleaves = exp(-2.415 + 1.339 × ln(C)). Total height had no influence on total and leaf biomass but increased precision of trunk and branch biomass. The carbon sequestration capacity of aboveground biomass was highest in Acacia mangium stand of 7 years old with 45.14 teqCO2·ha-1·year-1 and lowest in the 3-year stand with 33.90 teqCO2·ha-1·year-1.

This study examines the socio-economic profile of livestock farmers in coastal Côte d’Ivoire. A total of 43 people were interviewed using well-structured questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive methods. The results showed that local Lagoon breeders are divided into two zones: southwest and southeast. Breeders in the south-western region are generally located in two sub-prefectures of the Tabou Department (Grabo and Oulodio). Tabou’s department alone accounts for 42% of the Lagoon breed in Côte d’Ivoire. Agriculture in this area is traditionally sedentary, practiced for social reasons. On the other hand, the south-eastern zone, located in the departments of Aboisso, Adzopé, Agboville, Grand-Lahou, Jacqueville, Abidjan, Dabou and Sikensi, represents 58% of the Lagoon breeding area in Côte d’Ivoire. This second group is characterised by improved breeding. Most of the farmers interviewed in this zone breed for economic reasons. However, the risk of cross-breeding, which already affects the local Lagoon breed, could be increased by the presence of other species such as the Zebu and Ndamas, or even the Baoulé, in this south-eastern herd.

Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a low molecular weight polypeptide (11,800 Da) that exists in a free form and a form bound to cell membranes (light chains of HLA class I molecules). Their dosage is used in the exploration and monitoring of renal function in haemodialysis patients, hence the interest of this study, the objective of which is to study the different players involved in the increase of beta-2-microglobulin. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective and descriptive study from January 1st, 2017 to August 31, 2017 (08 months). All patients with chronic hemodialysis for 3 years or more were included. We analyzed sociodemographic, clinical and paraclinical data. Results: We collected 50 patients. The mean age was 50 ± 4.6 years with extremes of 30 and 82 years. The female sex predominated (52%). Chronic end-stage renal failure was hypertensive (86%), diabetic (4%). All patients benefited from intermittent hemodialysis for 8 hours per week using a low permeability membrane (cuprophane). The average duration of hemodialysis was 68 ± 6.4 months with extremes of 36 and 204 months. Twenty percent (20%) and four percent (4%) of chronic dialysis patients had joint pain and sensory deficit. Phalen’s sign was positive in 2% (1 case), Tinel’s sign in 2% (1 case) and carpal tunnel syndrome in 2% (1 case). The mean serum beta-2-microglobulin level was 58.34 ng/l with extremes of 16.99 and 112.24 ng/l. There was a correlation between hypertensive nephropathies and beta-2-microglobulin levels above 50 ng/l (P Conclusion: Our study has objectified factors such as inadequate dialysis (8 hours/week), use of low permeability membrane in the increase of beta-2-microglobulin. The increase in serum beta-2-microglobulin levels in our patients is evidence of poor purification of medium molecules. BACKGROUND Primary liver cancer is common in West Africa due to endemic risk ***,epidemiological studies of the global burden and trends of liver cancer are *** report changes in trends of the incidence of liver cancer over a period of 28 years using the population-based cancer registry of Bamako,*** assess the trends and patterns of liver cancer by gender and age groups by analyzing the cancer registration data accumulated over 28 years(1987-2015)of activity of the population-based registry of the Bamako *** Data obtained since the inception of the registry in 1987 through 2015 were stratified into three periods(1987-1996,1997-2006,and 2007-2015).Age-standardized rates were estimated by direct standardization using the world *** rate ratios and the corresponding 95%confidence intervals(CI)were estimated using the early period as the reference(1987-1996).Joinpoint regression models were used to assess the annual percentage change and highlight trends over the entire period(from 1987 to 2015).RESULTS Among males,the age-standardized incidence rates significantly decreased from 19.41(1987-1996)to 13.12(1997-2006)to 8.15(2007-2015)per 105 *** incidence rate ratio over 28 years was 0.42(95%CI:0.34-0.50),and the annual percentage change was-4.59[95%CI:(-6.4)-(-2.7)].Among females,rates dropped continuously from 7.02(1987-1996)to 2.57(2007-2015)per 105 person-years,with an incidence rate ratio of 0.37(95%CI:0.28-0.45)and an annual percentage change of-5.63[95%CI:(-8.9)-(-2.3)].CONCLUSION The population-based registration showed that the incidence of primary liver cancer has steadily decreased in the Bamako district over 28 *** trend does not appear to result from biases or changes in registration *** is the first report of such a decrease in an area of high incidence of liver cancer in *** decrease may be explained by the changes and diversity of diet that could reduce exposure to

Kidney Damage during Sharp’s Syndrome: About Two Cases

Context: The coexistence in the same patient of a mixed connectivitis or Sharp’s syndrome is a rare eventuality. Objective: To underline the presence of this mixed connectivitis in our practice, whose prevalence remains unknown, particularly in Africa and more precisely in Mali. Case Presentations: We report two cases of Sharp’s syndrome in a 48-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman with impaired renal function. The picture achieved associated massive proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, moderate renal failure and edematous syndrome in men. In women, the picture was associated with accelerated to malignant hypertension and severe renal failure. There were no osteoarticular manifestations and the diagnosis of Sharp’s syndrome was based on the presence of high levels of antibodies to U1RNP. Therapeutic management has been that of predominantly associated connective tissue disease (systemic lupus erythematosus). Conclusion: Mixed connectivitis or Sharp’s syndrome is increasingly recognized as a separate entity thanks to advances in molecular biology. Its prevalence is low in sub-Saharan African countries with renal disease that manifests itself as proteinuria or nephrotic syndrome associated with microscopic hematuria, renal failure, and hypertension. This renal impairment is more likely to occur in severe forms of the disease.

Abdominal pregnancy is a rare ectopic pregnancy in which the trophoblast implants in the peritoneal cavity. Diagnosis and management are difficult. We report the case of a 21-year-old primigravida, who consulted the hospital in Ségou for an abdominal pregnancy that had stopped at around 16 weeks. We performed a laparotomy and removed a gestational sac included in the left broad ligament containing a still-macerated female foetus weighing 145 g after a second ultrasound following the failure of induction with misoprostol for 48 hours. This case highlights the difficulty of diagnosing abdominal pregnancy in our environment despite the more frequent use of ultrasound.

Mayer Rokitansky Küster Hauser (MRKH) syndrome is a rare congenital disorder that occurs during foetal development. MRKH is characterised by agenesis of the uterus and part of the vagina. Its exact aetiology is still unknown due to the complexity of the genetic pathways involved in the embryogenetic development of the Müllerian ducts. Although these women have a female phenotype and functional ovaries, they do not have menstrual cycles. We report the rare case of a 23-year-old married woman who consulted us for primary amenorrhoea and desire for pregnancy. On assessment and investigation, it was confirmed that the patient had no uterus and a poorly developed vagina. However, she had normal functioning ovaries, and no abnormalities in other organs were detected. A multidisciplinary team provided advice on the nature of the anomaly, its implications for sex life, infertility and possible child adoption alternatives.

Consent and Quality of Information for Patients in Laparoscopic Surgery at the Academic Hospital Point“G”(Mali)

Objectives: To evaluate the quality of the information provided to patients for their consent to be operated laparoscopically in the “A” surgery service of Point “G” University Hospital in Bamako (Mali). Methodology: The study was transversal, descriptive and prospective from November 1, 2016 to December 31, 2017 (14 months). It was performed at the general and laparoscopic surgery department of the Point “G” University Hospital in Bamako. Laparoscopically operated patients in scheduled or emergency programm whom consented the study and answered the questions before and after the surgical procedure were included. Results: One hundred patients were retained. The sex ratio was 4.2 for women. The surgery was scheduled in 93% (programmed surgery) of cases versus 7% (urgent surgery). Gynecological and obstetric surgery was performed in 54%, digestive surgery in 43% and laparoscopic exploration in 3%. The information was provided by surgeons, anesthetists, fellowship and students in respec-tively 63%, 6%, 11% and 9%. The reflection period before consenting to the act was greater or equal to 3 days in 90%. The media used were found to be suitable in 62%. The information was considered satisfactory preoperatively in 54% and postoperatively in 88%. Patients wanted additional information on post-surgery outcomes in 21%. Conclusion: The establishment of an information system and a free and informed consent form is a prerequisite for the quality of care in laparoscopic surgery.
