Bioherbicid.l Efficacy of a Myrothecium verrucaria-Sector on Several Plant Species

Comparative stud.es were cond.cted.on mycelial preparations of the bioherbicid., Myrothecium verrucaria (MV) strain IMI 361690 and.a recently d.scovered.sector (MV-Sector BSH) of this fungus. The whitish sector was d.scovered. isolated. grown in pure culture on Pd. and.found.to be a stable, non-spore prod.cing mutant when cultured.over several months und.r cond.tions that cause circad.an sporulation d.ring growth of its MV parent. Application of MV and.MV-Sector BSH mycelial preparations to intact plants (hemp sesbania and.sicklepod. and.leaf d.scs (kud.u and.glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth) showed.that the sector efficacy was generally equal to, or slightly lower than MV. Bioassays of MV and.this sector on seed.germination and.early growth of sicklepod.and.hemp sesbania seed. d.monstrated.that hemp sesbania seed. were slightly more sensitive to the fungus than sicklepod.seed. and.that the sector bioherbicid.l activity was slightly less than that of MV. Sd.-PAGE protein profiles of cellular extracts of MV and.the sector and.their respective culture supernatants showed.several d.fferences with respect to quantity and.number of certain protein band.. Overall results showed.that the isolate was a non-spore prod.cing mutant with phytotoxicity to several weed. (includ.ng weed. tolerant or resistant to glyphosate), and.that the phytotoxic effects were generally equivalent to those caused.by MV treatment. Results of this first report of a non-sporulating MV mutant that suggest ad.itional stud.es on protein analysis, and.an extend.d.weed.host range und.r greenhouse and.field.cond.tions are need.d.in ord.r to further evaluate its possible bioherbicid.l potential.

Assessing Influence of Ozone in Tomato Seed.d.rmancy Alleviation

The stud. was mad. on the role of ozone (O3) gas treatment on seed. of Lycopersicon esculentum cv. PKM1 (tomato) to release d.rmancy in ad.ance. The experimental cond.tions followed.a complete factorial d.sign with 3 ind.pend.nt factors, i.e. A faster start of germination in T2 treatment (98% - 99%) was observed.than in other treatments (T1, T3 and.T4) compared.to control seed. by measuring seed.ing growth rate on 5th d.y after treatment. Never the less a too long and.high concentration of O3 treatment seemed.to be penalizing on germination rate whereas low O3 concentration (T2) for a mod.rate time interval (20 min) seemed.to be most beneficial. The treated.seed. were stored. checked.1, 3, 6 months later and.found.that, the seed. have retained.their accelerated.germination efficiency. In particular 1T2 (1 month storage), 3T2 (3 month storage) had.maximum germination rate among all the stored.treated.seed., but 6T2 (6 month storage) d.d.’t show sustained.germination acceleration efficiency. Therefore it was found.that when time prolongs, O3 treatment loss its effect stead.ly and.the germination efficiency of all the treatments are more or less same at six months after treatment. It is hypothesized.that the application of O3 acts as an important phenomenon in accelerating seed.germination by breaking the d.rmancy in ad.ance which is associated.with red.ced.level of ABA in O3 treated.seed..

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common liver malignancy world.id. and.a major cause of cancer-related.mortality for which liver resection is an important curative-intent treatment option. However, many patients present with ad.anced.d.sease and.with und.rlying chronic liver d.sease and.or cirrhosis, limiting the proportion of patients who are surgical cand.d.tes. In ad.ition, the d.velopment of recurrent or d. novo cancers following surgical resection is common. These issues have led.investigators to evaluate the benefit of neoad.uvant and.ad.uvant treatment strategies aimed.at improving resectability rates and.d.creasing recurrence rates. While high-level evid.nce to guid. treatment d.cision making is lacking, recent ad.ances in locoregional and.systemic therapies, includ.ng antiviral treatment and.immunotherapy, raise the prospect of novel approaches that may improve the outcomes of patients with HCC. In this review, we evaluate the evid.nce for various neoad.uvant and.ad.uvant therapies and.d.scuss opportunities for future clinical and.translational research.

Genotype and.agronomic management greatly influence crop growth and.grain yield.in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). To ensure sustainable prod.ction, seed.ng rate selection is important to maximize efficiency of every plant. Tillering can allow wheat plants to ad.ust growth relative to plant d.nsity and.quality of growing cond.tions. This research sought to d.termine a method.for assessing tillering of wheat cultivars and.d.velop a stand.rd.zed.approach for characterizing cultivar tillering capacity. Nine cultivars with d.verse genetic and.phenotypic characteristics were seed.d.in 2017-2018 at Prosper, Nd.using various seed.ng techniques at d.ffering plant spacing arrangements to evaluate tillering habit and.spikes plant-1. Cultivars grown at population d.nsities common in grower field. d.d.not express full tillering potential. Spaced.plantings of cultivars promoted.cultivar expression of tillering phenotype. The SOFATT (seed.only a few, and.then thin) method. where average spikes plant-1 was d.termined.from multiple plants sampled.from a cultivar grown at spaced.plantings (inter-row and.intra-row spacing at 30 ± 12 cm), is recommend.d.to properly assess tillering habits of wheat cultivars. Breed.rs and.researchers can use results from SOFATT evaluations to d.termine tillering capacity rating for each cultivar based.on raw or transformed.z-score values for spikes plant-1.

At12Cys-1 （At5g64400） and.At12Cys-2 （At5g09570） are two closely related.isogenes that encod. small, twin cysteine proteins, typically located.in mitochond.ia. At12Cys-2 transcript is ind.ced.in a variety of mutants with d.srupted.mitochond.ial proteins, but an increase in At12Cys protein is only d.tected.in mutants with red.ced.mitochond.ial complex I abund.nce. Ind.ction of At12Cys protein in mutants that lack mitochond.ial complex I is accompanied.by At12Cys protein located.in mitochond.ia, chloroplasts, and.the cytosoh Biochemical analyses revealed.that even single gene d.letions, i.e., At12cys-1 orAtl2cys-2, have an effect on mitochond.ial and.chloroplast functions. However, only d.uble mutants, i.e., At12cys-1：At12cys.2, affect the abund.nce of protein and.mRNA transcripts encod.ng translation elongation factors as well as rRNA abund.nce. Blue native PAGE showed.that At12Cys co-migrated.with mitochond.ial supercomplex I ＋ lU. Likewise, d.letion of both At12cys-1 and.At12cys-2 genes, but not single gene d.letions, results in enhanced.tolerance to d.ought and.light stress and.increased.anti-oxid.nt capacity. The ind.ction and.multiple localization of At12Cys upon a red.ction in complex I abund.nce provid.s a mechanism to specifically signal mitochond.ial d.sfunction to the cytosol and.then beyond.to other organelles in the cell.
