Correspondence amongst the PENO Test Battery Cognitive results and Hippocampal Lesions in Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is characterized by a decline of cognitive functions. Distinctive histopathological hallmarks are neuritic plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and synaptic alterations. Abnormally enlarged synaptic structures called “Meganeurite clusters” have been linked to plasticity changes. The aims of this study were to determine if cognitive impairment was related to specific neuritic and synaptic degeneration processes in patients with AD, and if the results of a cognitive test could be correlated with the histopathological damage. The neuropsychological evaluation obtained by the Protocole d’evaluation neuropsychologique optimal (PENO) test battery was used in live AD and control individuals. The histopathological evaluation of their brain after their death was carried out with specific polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies to Aβ, pTau protein, synaptophysin, and GAP-43. Images were obtained by confocal microscopy. The results showed a significant difference between healthy controls and Alzheimer’s patients in neuropsychological evaluation and histopathological hallmarks expression. The most significant positive correlation in AD patients was between memory and language results with the PENO test and the presence of Aβ +pTau+ plaques in the hippocampus. An interesting negative correlation was between cognitive impairment and the presence of Meganeuritic clusters, considered as “plasticity” markers. These results strongly supported the use of the PENO battery test to evaluate the progression of cognitive impairment in AD prone individuals and patients due to the strong correlation of the test results with histopathological brain lesions characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease.

This work presents the results of the analysis of meteorological variables applying the modeling Ion-Wavelets in a hypothetical manner. In this case the Morlet wavelet transform is used, which is the result of a huge number of researches made in the80’s and applied to various physical phenomena derived from natural chaotic processes;the data were processed using the phenomenon “El Nino” and CO2 (Carbon dioxide) due to the fact that these are the meteorological phenomena which best adapt to our object of study correlating with distribution of Gauss and Morlet during the study period in the Puebla Valley.

Climatic conditions become ostensible in human activities altering agricultural production, forestry and civil security, increasing vulnerability risk of socio-environmental disaster. In regions where natural resources proliferate in good condition and therefore are declared protected areas, it is essential to determine whether there is indeed climate changes or, if there are just climate variations because ethnic and peasant communities depend entirely of their natural resources to survival. The aim of this study was to compare local people perception of weather variations respect what was found by scientists to analyze long series of traditional climatic data. To understand social vs. scientific perception of the same phenomenon we rely on a case study in the Sierra Otomí. Examination of both temperature and precipitation showed no significant differences between 1944 and 2010. However, the overall trend in temperature was to decline 0.5℃. When crossing statistical information regarding natural and anthropogenic historical phenomena, there seems no climate change in the region. On the other hand, social perception is that there is a major climate change in the region, increasing trouble scheduling crops because the rain is delayed or comes suddenly and everything floods. It also tells people that the temperature is getting warmer than ever, because the nights are cooler and the days are hotter than some years ago. Although the perception of the population is not supported by scientific data, the feeling is strong, but is due to cultural, economic criteria, and traditional beliefs. This information is important to develop specific programs for management of natural resources in rural places with adjoining protected natural areas.

Impact of Chiapanecan Handicrafts

The purpose of this research is to study the perception of Chiapanecan handicrafts as an element of sustainable competitive advantage in the State of Chiapas, Mexico, mainly due to the tourism. Mexican handicrafts contribute to 20.3% of the Gross Domestic Product （GDP） of the cultural sector, that is, 0.6% of the National GDP. This research is quantitative, descriptive, and transversal. The sample selection was made for convenience so certain criteria could be met. In total, 70 tourists were surveyed in the handicraft commerce area. For the data retrieval, an instrument with the “Sustainability SWOT” （sSWOT） was designed, which consists of eight dimensions （trends, environmental challenges, threats, opportunities, strengths, weaknesses, which to prioritize, and where to act）. The instrument consists of 22 items with a single Likert scale ranging from 1 to 5 （1 = Null to 5 = Excellent）. The study showed that 54.29% of the tourists who visit Chiapas perceive that handicrafts have a regular impact on the small producer’s quality of life, while the remaining 45.71% point out that the impact is greater.

Effective use of FibroTest to generate decision trees in hepatitis C

AIM： To assess the usefulness of FibroTest to forecast scores by constructing decision trees in patients with chronic hepatitis C.METHODS： We used the C4.5 classification algorithm to construct decision trees with data from 261 patients with chronic hepatitis C without a liver biopsy. The FibroTest attributes of age, gender, bilirubin, apolipoprotein, haptoglobin, α2 macroglobulin, and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase were used as predictors, and the FibroTest score as the target. For testing, a 10-fold cross validation was used.reSULTS： The overall classification error was 14.9% （accuracy 85.1%）. FibroTest＇s cases with true scores of FO and F4 were classified with very high accuracy （18/20 for FO, 9/9 for FO-1 and 92/96 for F4） and the largest confusion centered on F3. The algorithm produced a set of compound rules out of the ten classification trees and was used to classify the 261 patients. The rules for the classification of patients in FO and F4 were effective in more than 75% of the cases in which they were tested.CONCLUSION： The recognition of clinical subgroups should help to enhance our ability to assess differences in fibrosis scores in clinical studies and improve our understanding of fibrosis progression,

AIM To determine a potential relationship between serum undercarboxylated(uc OC) concentration and cardiovascular risk factors in type 2 diabetes(T2D) patients and healthy subjects(HS).METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted on 140 subjects classified into two groups, 70 with T2D and 70 HS. Medical history and physical examination with anthropometric measurements were obtained from all subjects. Body fat percentage was determined by bioelectrical impendency analysis. Serum uc OC concentration was determined by enzyme immunoassay,while serum levels of insulin and hsC RP were obtained using high sensitivity enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Insulin resistance was determined using the homeostasis model assessment-IR. Lipid profile [triglycerides,total cholesterol(TC), high-density lipoproteins(HDL-c),low density lipoproteins(LDL-c), very low-density lipoproteins] was determined by spectrophotometry and standard formulas when applicable. reSULTS The T2D patient group showed significantly higher values of waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, systolic blood pressure(SBP), diastolic blood pressure(DBP),current smoking, and alcohol use when compared to the HS group(P related with body mass index(BMI)(r =-0.236, P related with LDL-c/HDL-c ratio(r = 0.306, P related with BMI(r =-0.310, P related with DBP(r = 0.450,P relation between serum levels of uc OC and SBP(r = 0.277, P < 0.05)was observed. Geostatistical Analysis of the Colorada and Quimichule Canyons Located in Popocatépetl Volcano (Mexico) for the Prevention of Natural Disasters

This paper aims to contribute to the prevention of natural disasters and generate a complement to other similar studies. The Popocatépetl volcano has showed significant and constant activity since 1994. The Colorada and Quimichule canyons are located within its geologic structure;due to their topographic features, ejected volcanic material and torrential rains in the past recent years, they put nearby communities at risk. This work presents a geostatistical analysis to obtain the gravity acceleration, slope by the distance-elevation relation, height-gravity and the fluid force on the canyons. The conversion of UTM to geographical coordinates was made with the use of the program Traninv applying the ITRF2008 epoch 2010.0 Datum and the 14 Zone;the local gravity was calculated with the use of International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) and the statistical analysis was obtained with the use of the Geostatistical Environmental Assessment. The structural modeling was performed using Surfer, and the spending and force were calculated using hydrological models. The correlation analysis concluded that Quimichule has the greatest gravity and that it would transport lahars faster. Mapping, geomorphological and statistical techniques and models were applied in accordance with the study to obtain the results presented here.

A Possible Hypoallergenic Cereal in Wheat Food Allergy and Baker’s Asthma

Background: Wheat is a potent allergen source and is one of the causes of baker’s asthma and food allergy. The best strategy for managing food hypersensitivity involves strict avoidance of the trigger. However, wheat is quite difficult to avoid. Several alternative strategies for the treatment of food allergy are under study. Spelt is a possible hypoallergenic crop that may be tried in patients with wheat allergy. Methods: We have evaluated the allergenic IgE hypersensitivity mediated by spelt in wheat allergic patients. Overall, 66 patients who suffered from baker’s asthma or food allergy (45 males and 21 females, mean age 28.6 ± 12.9 years) were included. We have also compared its reactivity with standard- ized extracts from wheat and with purified non-specific lipid transfer proteins from wheat (Tri a 14) and from peach (Pru p 3). Immunodetection with spelt and common bread wheat extracts (Triticum aestivum, cultivar Astral) was per- formed. Fresh wheat and spelt grain extracts were used both for oral and bronchial challenge and skin tests. Specific IgE detection to different cereals was performed using the Immuno CAP System (Phadia, Uppsala, Sweden). The bronchial challenge was positive with wheat Astral in 44 (67%) patients, all of them suffered from asthma. Thirteen (29.54%) of these 44 patients had negative the challenge with spelt. The oral challenge with wheat Astral was positive in 22 (33%) patients with wheat food allergy, and the same test was positive in only in 6 of them with spelt (27.3%). The diagnostic yield (sensitivity, specificity and predictive values) of routine tests in determining spelt allergy by specific positive challenge responses was determined. Prick tests for spelt versus positive challenge tests had a good sensitivity (94%, 86.5 - 99.4;95%CI) and specificity (86%, 84 - 90;95% CI) for the diagnosis of spelt allergy. BACKGROUND This study evaluates the American Thyroid Association(ATA)ultrasound(US)classification system for the initial assessment of thyroid nodules to determine if it indeed facilitates clinical *** To perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of the diagnostic value of the ATA US classification system for the initial assessment of thyroid *** In accordance with the PRISMA statement for diagnostic test accuracy,we selected articles that evaluated the 2015 ATA US pattern guidelines using a diagnostic gold *** analyzed these cases using traditional diagnostic parameters,as well as the threshold approach to clinical decision-making and decision curve *** We reviewed 13 articles with 8445 thyroid nodules,which were classified according to 2015 ATA *** these,46.62%were *** cancer was found in any of the ATA benign pattern *** Bayesian analysis post-test probability for cancer in each classification was:(1)Very-low suspicion,0.85%;(2)Low,2.6%;(3)Intermediate,6.7%;and(4)High,40.9%.The net benefit(NB),expressed as avoided interventions,indicated that the highest capacity to avoid unnecessary fine needle aspiration biopsy(FNAB)in the patterns that we studied was 42,31,35,and 43 of every 100 *** NB calculation for a probability threshold of 11%for each of the ATA suspicion patterns studied is less than that of performing FNAB on all *** These three types of analysis have shown that only the ATA high-suspicion diagnostic pattern is clinically useful,in which case,FNAB should be ***,the curve decision analysis has demonstrated that using the ATA US risk patterns to decide which patients need FNAB does not provide a greater benefit than performing FNAB on all thyroid ***,it is likely that a better way to approach the assessment of thyroid nodules would be to perform FNAB on all non-cystic nodules,as the present analysis has shown the ATA risk patterns
