Variability of waste copper slag concrete and its effect on the seismic safety of reinforced concrete building: A case study

Proven research output on the behavior of structures made of waste copper slag concrete can improve its utilization in the construction industry and thereby help to develop a sustainable built *** numerous studies on waste copper slag concrete can be found in the published literature,no research has focused on the structural application of this type of *** particular,the variability in the strength properties of waste copper slag concrete,which is required for various structural applications,such as limit state design formulation,reliability-based structural analysis,etc.,has so far not attracted the attention of *** paper quantifies the uncertainty associated with the compressive-,flexural-and split tensile strength of hardened concrete with different dosages of waste copper slag as fine ***-fit probability distribution models are proposed based on statistical analyses of strength data generated from laboratory *** addition,the paper presents a reliability-based seismic risk assessment of a typical waste copper slag incorporated reinforced concrete framed building,considering the proposed distribution *** results show that waste copper slag can be safely used for seismic resistant structures as it results in an identical probability of failure and dispersion in the drift demand when compared with a conventional concrete building made of natural sand.

Pigments,which are naturally found in a variety of fruits and are categorized as natural dyes,are compounds that impart color to a variety of products in the food *** colorants are being used in the food industry to broaden the color *** and long-term use of underutilized crops(also known as minor or neglected)are critical for dietary diversification as well as fulfilling the nutritional needs of an ever-increasing human *** recent years,the potential for underutilized crops as an emerging source of natural colorants has gained traction in the scientific *** predominant factors behind the exploration of unconventional plants are sustainable production,local availability,technological feasibility,cultural importance,specialty food production,and new fundamental *** is an urgent need to uncover and explore underutilized plants in the changing world where unfavorable climatic and human conditions endanger natural vegetation around the *** have been using plant-based pigments since ancient *** vegetal resources and the re-discovery of underutilized plants should be prioritized in the hunt for important natural *** review demonstrates the potential of this underutilized natural resource to extract promising natural colorants,which can be utilized in the food industry in the future.A scientific approach as well as research regarding the investigation,utilization,the discovery of new plant species having valuable natural pigments,their actions safety,and nutritional properties,is still needed around the world.

Dietary experience alters predatory behavior of two ladybird species on tomato potato psyllid

The tomato potato psyllid,Bactericera cockerelli,is an invasive pest in Aus-tralia,which can cause severe economic loss in the production of Solanaceous *** an invasive pest,*** may also modify biotic interactions in Australian agricul-tural and native *** generalist predators in an area may have the ability to utilize invasive pest species as prey but this will depend on their specific predatory *** extent to which generalist predators learn from their previous dietary ex-perience(i.e.,whether they have used a particular species as prey before)and how this impacts subsequent prey choice will influence predator and prey population dynamics af-ter *** this study,one nonnative resident ladybird,Hippodamia variegata,and one native ladybird,Coccinella transversalis,were *** experience with *** as a prey species significantly increased preference for the psyllid in a short term(6 h)Petri dish study where a choice of prey was *** suppression of *** populations by experienced ladybirds was also observed on glasshouse grown tomato *** was presumably due to altered prey recognition by *** result of this study suggest the potential to improve the impact of biological control agents on invasive pests by providing early life experience consuming the target *** may prove valuable for developing improved augmentative release strategies for ladybirds to manage specific insect pest species.

Recently,Yu et al.(2014)proposed a new model in generalized thermoelasticity based on heat conduction with the memory-dependent *** magneto-thermoelastic responses in a perfectly conducting thermoelastic solid half-space is investigated in the context of the above new *** mode analysis together with an eigenvalue expansion technique is used to solve the resulting non-dimensional coupled governing *** obtained solutions are then applied to a specific problem for thermoelastic half-space whose boundary is subjected to a time-dependent thermal shock and zero *** effects of the kernel function,time-delay parameter,magnetic field and thermoelastic coupling parameter on the variations of different field quantities inside the half-space are analyzed *** results show that these parameters has significant influence on the variations of the considered variables.

Pronounced Fluctuations of Target Fragments in Forward Hemisphere Only in Ultra Relativistic Nuclear Collision

Dynamical fluctuation of target evaporated black particles is investigated in both forward and backward hemispheres within the framework of multi-dimensional factorial moment methodology using the brilliant concept of the Hurst exponent. We analyse the black particles emitted in ^32S-AgBr interactions at 200AGeV and it is evident that the dynamical fluctuation in the backward hemisphere is self-affine. In the forward hemisphere, dynamical fluctuation is self-similar but not self-affine. However, study indicates that the fluctuation in the forward hemisphere is more pronounced than that in backward hemisphere.

Seed Priming Improves Agronomic Trait Performance under Flooding and Non-flooding Conditions in Rice with QTL SUB1

Farmers in South East Asia are adopting rice crop establishment methods from transplanting to direct wet or dry seeding as it requires less labour and time and comparatively less energy than transplanting. In contrast to irrigated condition, in rainfed lowland, direct seeding is a common practice. Early flooding controls weeds but decreases seedling establishment in direct seeded rice. Anaerobic germination is an important trait to counteract damages caused by early flooding. Management options which can help in crop establishment and improve crop growth under flooding might remove the constraints related to direct seeding. The investigation was carried out with two near isogenic lines Swarna and Swarna- Sub1. Swarna-Subl is tolerant to submergence whereas Swarna is susceptible. Seed priming was done with water and 2% Jamun （Syzygium cumini） leaf extract, and it improved seedling establishment under flooding. Acceleration of growth occurred due to seed pretreatment, which resulted longer seedling and greater accumulation of biomass. Seed priming greatly hastened the activities of total amylase and alcohol dehydrogenase in Swarna-Subl than in Swarna. Swarna-Subl outperformed Swarna when the plants were cultivated under flooding. Weed biomass decreased significantly under flooding compared to non-flooding conditions. Seed priming had positive effects on yield and yield attributing parameters both under non-flooding and early flooding conditions.

The intermittent fluctuation of target evaporated particles is studied in both ring-like and jet-like events emitted in ^32 S-emulsion interactions at 200 A Ge V within the framework of multi-dimensional factorial moment methodology using the concept of the Hurst exponent. It is observed that the intermittent fluctuation in the ring-like event is self-similar, whereas in the jet-like event fluctuation is self-affine. However, study indicates that the strength of fluctuation in the ring-like events is much stronger than that in the jet-like events.

Magnetic Phase Separation in Diluted Magnetic System:Zn1-xFexO

Single-phase diluted magnetic systems Zn1-xFexO have been prepared by chemical route. Structural and spectroscopic （UV-Vis and Mossbauer） studies indicate the incorporation of Fe^3＋ ions in the lattice sites. The UV-Vis results point to a systematic increase in the band gap with increasing Fe doping. The room temperature magnetization of Zni-xFexO indicates a paramagnetic behavior which is in accordance with the Mossbauer results, illustrating quadrupolar doublet. At low temperature, the zero-field-cooled （ZFC） magnetization shows a cusp and this temperature increases systematically with decreasing particle size. The weak exchange bias effect manifested by a M-H loop shift is observed for x = 0.03. This shift is accompanied by the enhancement of coercivity. The dc magnetization results suggest the coexis tence of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic exchange interactions for low doping of Fe, i.e., for x = 0.03.
