Diagnostic value for extrahepatic metastases of hepatocellular carcinoma in positron emission tomography/computed tomography scan

AIM: To evaluated the value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) scan in diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and extrahepatic metastases. METHODS: A total of 138 patients with HCC who had both conventional imaging modalities and 18F-FDG PET/CT scan done between November 2006 and March 2011 were enrolled. Diagnostic value of each imaging modality for detection of extrahepatic metastases was evaluated. Clinical factors and tumor characteristics including PET imaging were analyzed as indicative factors for metastases by univariate and multivariate methods. RESULTS: The accuracy of chest CT was significantly superior compared with the accuracy of PET imaging for detecting lung metastases. The detection rate of metastatic pulmonary nodule ≥ 1 cm was 12/13 (92.3%), when < 1 cm was 2/10 (20%) in PET imaging. The accuracy of PET imaging was significantly superior compared with the accuracy of bone scan for detecting bone metastases. In multivariate analy- sis, increased tumor size (≥ 5 cm) (P = 0.042) and increased average standardized uptake value (SUV) uptake (P = 0.028) were predictive factors for extrahepatic metastases. Isometabolic HCC in PET imaging was inversely correlated in multivariate analysis (P = 0.035). According to the receiver operating characteristic curve, the optimal cutoff of average SUV to predict extrahepatic metastases was 3.4. CONCLUSION: 18F-FDG PET/CT scan is invaluable for detection of lung metastases larger than 1 cm and bone metastases. Primary HCC having larger than 5 cm and increased average SUV uptake more than 3.4 should be considered for extrahepatic metastases.

It is common that a proof-of-concept of a desired reaction,which might generate materials with new functions or application potential,is eventually proved impracticable or commercially *** efforts have been made but wasted in searching for unknown reaction conditions in solvent environments because it was believed that the activity of reactants can be enhanced to facilitate reactions by dissolving them in ***,an abnormal case was discovered in this study.A desired copolymerization reaction between 1,3,5-tris(chloromethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene and melamine was confirmed to be impracticable under various solvent conditions;however,it was successfully implemented using a solvent-free *** first-principle calculations and molecular dynamics simulations,two decisive factors that the reaction in solvents cannot possess,namely the reaction equilibrium being pushed by the timely release of by-products and the confined thermal motions of the activated monomer molecules in the solid phase,were demonstrated to make the copolymerization successful in the solvent-free *** to the high aromaticity and azacyclo-content,the as-synthetic copolymer exhibited good application potential as a precursor to fabricate N-doped porous carbons with satisfactory carbon yields,ideal N contents,desired textural properties,and competitive CO_(2)capture abilities compared to other representative counterparts reported recently.

The standard solar model proposes that the solar luminosity was 30%lower than the present level at 4.5 billion years ago(Ga).At low solar radiation,the climate model predicts that the Earth should have been completely covered by ice in the first 2 billion years,*** the snowball Earth climate mode,when the atmospheric CO2 content was at the present ***,snowball Earth condition is inconsistent with various sedimentological,paleontological,and geochemical *** controversy is collectively known as the Taint young Sun,(FYS)*** various models have been proposed,the FYS paradox has not yet been *** this study,we develop a model by considering the ocean-atmosphere coupling to show that high atmospheric CO2 level could be sustained at low seawater *** modeling result indicates that 0.1 bar atmospheric CO2 level that was required to prevent snowball Earth in early Archean could be sustained at seawater pH of *** the absence of siderite in Archean paleosols has been used to argue against high atmospheric CO2 level,we suggest that siderite precipitation in paleosols was not controlled by the atmospheric CO2 level ***,siderite could precipitate in anoxic conditions with various amount of CO2 in the atmosphere,suggesting siderite cannot be used to reconstruct the atmospheric CO2 ***,the new model suggests that the snowball Earth condition could be prevented by the coupling of atmosphere and ocean systems,and thus the emergence of the ocean in the very beginning of Earth evolution might be the key to the subsequence evolution of habitability.

A novel star-shaped cyclotriphosphazene substituted by glycinomethylesterphenoxy and its intermediates are synthesized from hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene (HCCP). The structures are characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 31P NMR, FTIR and elemental analysis. Their thermal properties are clarified by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimentry (DSC) and FTIR, while hydrolytic degradation behaviour is studied with UV-vis spectrophotometer and by measuring the weight loss, and the phosphorus content of residue. According to hydrolysis behaviour of hexa[p-(carbonylglycinomethylester)phenoxy]cyclotriphosphazene (HGPCP) under different conditions, it is easy to hydrolyze in hydrochloric acid (pH 1.0) than in phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) at 37°C. And the sample hydrolytic degradation still remains at the stage of side groups’ break. The TGA data show that the thermal stability of the hexa[p-(aldehyde)phenoxy]cyclotriphosphazene (HAPCP), hexa[p-(carboxyl) phenoxy]cyclotriphosphazene (HCPCP) and HGPCP is so high that their char residues are 75%, 47% and 47% at 800°C, respectively, probably due to cross-linking between molecules.

Using new combinatorics of young walls,we give a new construction of the arbitrary level highest weight crystal B(λ)for the quantum affine algebras of types A^((2))_(2n),D^((2))_(n+1),A^((2))_(2n−1),D^((1))_(n),B^((1))_(n) and C^((1))_(n).We show that the crystal consisting of reduced young walls is isomorphic to the crystal B(λ).Moreover,we provide a new realization of the crystal B(∞)in terms of reduced virtual young walls and reduced extended young walls.

Objective To study whether free triiodothyronine （FT3） within normal range has effects on the presence and severity of coronary ar- tery disease （CAD） in different gender and age groups. Methods A total of 4206 euthyroid patients were consecutively enrolled and di- vided into CAD group （n = 3306） and non-CAD group （n = 900）. All patients underwent coronary angiography （CAG）. Gensini score （GS） was used to determine the severity of coronary artery stenosis. Severe CAD was defined as GS 〉 32 and mild CAD was defined as GS 〈 32. Logistic regression analysis and linear regression analysis were conducted to determine the association of FT3 with CAD in patients with different gender and ages. Results Concentration of FT3 was lower in patients with CAD than that in angiography-normal control group （P 〈 0.05）. In addition, concentration of FT3 was lower in severe CAD than that in mild CAD. After adjusting for traditional cardiovascular risk factors and potential confounders, FT3 was negatively correlated with the presence of CAD, but not in the old patients （〉 65 years old）. Mul- tivariable linear regression analysis showed that FT3 was negatively associated with GS in male and young patients with stable CAD, but not in the old patients. Conclusions Low FT3 within normal range was negatively associated with the presence and severity of CAD in young patients, but not in the old ones. Further studies are needed to confirm our findings.

Bi-directional and concurrent proof of ownership for stronger storage services with de-duplication

In storage service, data de-duplication is a specialized technique for eliminating duplicate copies of repeating data in storage. Especially, client-side de-duplication has more merits than server-side deduplication since they can improve both the space efficiency and the communication bandwidth. For secure client-side de-duplication, we need a way to prove the ownership of a file to be stored. In the upload step,the server should verify the ownership of a client to give the right of the file without uploading it. On the contrary, the client also want to verify the retrievability for the file since he will delete it from his storage after protocol execution. Existing proof of ownership techniques have been designed for server's need. In this paper, we first point out that we need the second property in client's view point, and give a very simple and practical solution which can support the server and the client to prove that they have the same file. We first describe a generic strategy which can help us to construction a bi-directional and concurrent proof of ownership technique from an ordinary proof of ownership technique, and then give an efficient hash-based scheme with security proof in the random oracle model.
