Developmental genetic studies in Drosophila unraveled the importance of Polycomb group （PcG） and Trithorax group （TrxG） genes in controlling cellular identity. PcG and TrxG proteins form histone modifying complexes that catalyze repressive or activating histone modifi- cations, respectively, and thus maintaining the expression status of homeotic genes. Human orthologs of PcG and TrxG genes are implicated in tumorigenesis as well as in determining the prognosis of individual cancers. Recent whole genome analyses of cancers also highlighted the importance of histone modifying proteins in controlling tumorigenesis. Comprehensive understanding of the mechanistic relationship between histone regulation and tumorigenesis holds the promise of significantly advancing our understanding and management of cancer. It is anticipated that Drosophila melanogaster, the model organism that contributed significantly to our understanding of the functional role of histone regulation in development, could also provide unique insight for our understanding of how histone dysregulation can lead to cancer. In this review, we will discuss several recent advances in this regard.

Light absorption, charge separation and surface reaction are considered as the main processes ofphotocatalysis on one semiconductor, and all of them are demonstrated to be related to the defect statesof photocatalysts. This paper will choose Ti02 as model photocatalyst to introduce some basic conceptsand strategies related to defects and methods developed to characterize defects in the past ***, such strategies as hydrogenation and metal/nonmetal doping intoTi02 will be introduced toextend utilization of solar spectrum and/or to provide active sites. On the contrary, the unfavorable effectof defects such as acting as recombination centers of photogenerated carriers will also be *** typical methods to characterize the properties of defects are summarized, which contain electronparamagnetic resonance （EPR）, photoluminescence technique （PL）, positron annihilation spectroscopy（PAS）, and so on. We do hope that this review will make a revealing effect on understanding to thefunctions of defects as well as construction of efficient photocatalytic systems in the future.

This study conducts a comparative analysis between detached eddy simulation(DES)and Unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(URANS)models for simulating pressure fluctuations in a stilling basin,aiming to assess the URANS mode’s performance in modeling pressure *** URANS model predicts accurately a smoother flow field and its time-average pressure,yet it underestimates the root mean square of pressure(RMSP)fluctuation,achieving approximately 70%of the results predicted by DES model on the bottom floor of the stilling *** with DES model’s results,which are in alignment with the Kolmogorov−5/3 law,the URANS model significantly overestimates low-frequency pulsations,particularly those below 0.1 *** further propose a novel method for estimating the RMSP in the stilling basin using URANS model results,based on the establishment of a quantitative relationship between the RMSP,time-averaged pressure,and turbulent kinetic energy in the boundary *** proposed method closely aligns with DES results,showing a mere 15%error *** findings offer vital insights for selecting appropriate turbulence models in hydraulic engineering and provide a valuable tool for engineers to estimate pressure fluctuation in stilling basins.

A computer-aided tuning method that combines T-S fuzzy neural network(TS FNN)and offers improved space mapping(SM)is presented in this *** method consists of three main ***,the coupling matrix is effectively extracted under the influence of phase shift and cavity loss after the initial ***,the surrogate model is realized by using a T-S FNN based on subspace ***,the mapping relationship between the actual and the surrogate models is established by the improved space mapping algorithm,and the optimal position of the tuning screws are found by updating the input and output parameters of the surrogate ***,the effectiveness of different methods is verified by an experiment with a nine order cross coupled *** results show that,compared to a back propagation neural network method based on electromagnetic simulation and an SM method based on a least squares support vector machine,the proposed method has obvious advantages in terms of tuning accuracy and tuning time.

Abundant FeS2 with high theoretical capacity is one of the promising anode candidates in sodium-ion batteries(SlBs),however,the uneven sodium deposition due to the poor interface compatibility and sluggish reaction kinetics because of the high activation barrier still plague its practical ***,we synthesized the ordered porous carbon matrix wrapped FeS2 nanoparticles(FeS_2@OCN)with high sodium wettability and low pore tortuosity to economically enhance the interface compatibility as well as to lower the energy barrier in *** synergistic effects of low tortuosity pores and strong sodium wettability homogenize the Na+flux distribution,bring the electron dislocation via the enrichment of edgenitrogen(Pyridinic N and Pyrrolic N),thus achieving the dendrite-free sodium deposition and dramatically enhanced reaction *** from exceptional structural/compositional/electronic merits,the resultant anode is endowed with exceptional structure stability,achieving long-term cycling stability of 451.9 mAh·g^(-1)after 1000cycles at 1 A·g^(-1)with specific capacity retention of 92.9%.Attenuated electrode tortuosity and high sodium wettability can corporately improve the interface compatibility and attenuate the activation barrier of the FeS_2 host and beyond.

Maximizing biomass utilization: An integrated strategy for coproducing multiple chemicals

Lignocellulosic biomass is one of the viable solutions to alleviate the global warming. However, the limited utilization of biomass majorly focused on cellulose and hemicellulose restricts the economic and environmental feasibilities. To cope with this issue, we proposed an integrated process of co-producing 1,6-hexanediol（1,6-HDO） with tetrahydrofuran and adipic acid from biomass, referred to as Strategy A. To compare the impacts of lignin upgrading and feedstock, Strategy B, which co-produces tetrahydrofuran alone, and Strategy C, which is the traditional route to produce 1,6-HDO from fossil fuels, were used. Heat networks are also designed to reduce operating costs and indirect carbon emissions due to energy consumption, saving 87% and 83% of the heat and cooling requirements, respectively, in Strategy A. The market competitiveness of Strategy A was evaluated by determining the minimum selling price through techno-economic analysis, and sustainability was thoroughly investigated by quantifying the environmental impacts through both midpoint and endpoint life-cycle assessments（LCAs）.Strategy A was found to be the most favorable both economically（USRDSCHARDOLLAR3,402/ton） and environmentally（-26.9 kg CO2eq.）. This indicates that lignin valorization is not only economically but also environmentally preferred. Finally, changes in economic and environmental feasibilities depending on economic, process, and environmental parameters were investigated using sensitivity and uncertainty analyses. The results of these analyses provide valuable insight into bio-based chemical production.

The Arctic is rapidly transforming into a navigable ocean because of global *** retreat of ice extent and widened marginal ice zone(MIZ)in the Arctic made it possible for non-icebreaking commercial vessels to sail into Arctic waters where ice floes of various concentrations and thicknesses *** main objective of this work is to estimate the performance of a non-icebreaking cargo ship that sails in the Arctic marginal ice *** numerical approaches are utilized to calculate ice-induced resistance and compared with those proposed in empirical *** comparison shows that the resistances predicted by the two numerical tools differ obviously and are in general smaller in comparison with the ones calculated from the empirical formulas under lower ice *** total resistances are further calculated to predict the required propulsion powers for the case study vessel to enable navigation under severe ice *** work highlights the significance of developing new and more sophisticated tools for estimation of ship’s ice performance in MIZ,which is the prerequisite to enable non-icebreaking cargo fleet to utilize the Arctic shipping lane.

Encapsulating metal nanoparticles in carbon shells(Metal@C)to enhance catalytic activity and stability has been certified ***,most existing methods for preparing Metal@C are complex,time-consuming,and lack of *** this study,a novel method that couples the high-temperature shock(HTS)with ultrasonic spray pyrolysis is reported,which can realize facile and scalable production of various Metal@C through the pyrolysis of glucose and metal chloride *** proposed HTS ultrasonic spray pyrolysis offers several advantages,including compact size,short reaction time(~120 ms),and uniform *** the Ni@C-40 nanocomposite as an example,the ultrasmall Ni nanoparticles(~10 nm)with thin carbon protective shells(~2 nm)are uniformly dispersed in the carbon matrix and applied for oxygen evolution reaction(OER)in alkaline *** Ni@C-40 optimized by tuning the thickness of carbon shell exhibits significantly enhanced OER activity with low overpotential of 242 mV at 10 mA·cm^(-2) and stability,which is attributed to the optimized interactions between Ni nanoparticles and carbon *** method also shows promise for continuous pyrolysis synthesis of various extreme materials at ultra-high temperatures using alternative electric heating materials.
