Introduction:A retrospective study based on sentinel surveillance was conducted in 10 provinciallevel administrative divisions(PLADs)in China to enhance the understanding of the epidemiological characteristics of human parainfluenza viruses(HPIVs).Methods:From January 2019 to June 2023,respiratory specimens were collected from individuals with acute respiratory infections(ARIs)and screened for four HPIVs serotypes and other common respiratory viruses using multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR).This study analyzed the association of HPIVs infections with seasonal patterns,geographical distribution,demographic profiles,clinical features,and co-infection ***:During the study period,a total of 12,866 ARIs were *** overall detection rate of HPIVs was 6.15%,varying from 5.04%in 2022 to 9.70%in *** median age of HPIVs-infected patients was 3 ***2 was more prevalent among individuals aged 5–17 years(42.57%),while HPIV4 was more common in those over 65 years(12.24%).HPIV3(54.16%)and HPIV1(27.18%)were the predominant serotypes,and their prevalence exhibited significant seasonal fluctuations postcoronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** peak of HPIV3 shifted three months later in 2020 compared to 2019 and returned to a summer peak *** peaks of HPIV1 were observed in 2021 following the peak of ***,coinfections were frequent in HPIVs cases(overall rate:22.12%),with human rhinovirus being the most common co-infecting ***:The prevalence of HPIVs in China was predominantly due to HPIV3 and HPIV1,and their seasonal patterns were altered by pandemic ***,continuous surveillance of HPIVs is essential.

Multi-cellular organisms such as humans contain hundreds of cell types that share the same genetic information(DNA sequences),and yet have different cellular traits and *** how genetic information is passed through generations has been extensively characterized,it remains largely obscure how epigenetic information encoded by chromatin regulates the passage of certain traits,gene expression states and cell identity during mitotic cell divisions,and even through *** this review,we will summarize the recent advances on molecular mechanisms of epigenetic inheritance,discuss the potential impacts of epigenetic inheritance during normal development and in some disease conditions,and outline future research directions for this challenging,but exciting field.

Epigenetic regulation on gene expression is key to the decision and maintenance of cell fates during *** of the oldest and the most explored epigenetic machinery involves the Polycomb group(PcG)proteins,which regulate a plethora of critical biological processes,including chromatin organization,X chromosome inactivation,proliferation and differentiation,and *** functions of PcG proteins are further diversified by the highly sophisticated multi-subunit complex assembly like LEGOs[1].Biochemically,PcG proteins assemble into two major complexes with unique chromatin-modifying activities:Polycomb repressive complex(PRC)1 and ***1 contains a core involving E3 ubiquitin ligases RING1A and RING1B,and catalyzes monoubiquitination on lysine 119 of histone H2A(H2AK119ub1),whereas PRC2 catalyzes mono-,di-,and tri-methylation on lysine 27 of histone H3(H3K27me1/2/3).Although PRC1 and PRC2 cooperate intimately in mediating transcriptional silencing,emerging evidence suggests independent roles at a subset of PcG ***,zhu et al.[2]revealed distinct requirements for H2AK119ub1 and H3K27me3 to repress the expression of canonical PcG targets and DNA methylation-independent non-canonical imprinting genes,respectively,during early embryonic development.

This study aimed to determine whether plasma testosterone is associated with the severity of coronary atherosclerosis in a group of 803 men who underwent elective coronary angiography. Testosterone levels were measured in 803 male patients who were categorized into three groups according to testosterone level tertiles. All patients underwent elective coronary angiography, and the severity of coronary artery disease （CAD） was determined by the Gensini score. Moreover, patients were classified into two groups according to Gensini scores （score ≤ 26 and score 〉26） using the median values as cutoff points. The plasma testosterone levels were measured by an ELISA kit. The level of testosterone was negatively associated with the Gensini score （r=-0. 188; P=0.000）. A multiple linear regression analysis revealed that testosterone was an independent risk factor for the Gensini score （β=-0,110; P=0.002） after adjusting for confounding covariates. In a multivariate logistic regression model, the severity of CAD was shown to be significantly lower in the third tertile （highest） of testosterone compared to the first tertile （lowest） of testosterone （odds ratio （0R）=0.465; 95% confidence interval （C1）. 0.327-0.662; P=0.000）. In this study, patients with lower testosterone levels had higher Gensini scores in a group of 803 men who underwent elective coronary angiography. Additional studies are needed to clarify the direction of causality and possible underlying mechanisms.

The four effective antagonistic Bacillus strains, isolated from the rhizosphere soil of cucumber in a greenhouse, produced antifungal volatiles. These volatiles strongly inhibited the growth of the most tested pathogenic fungi with wide host plants, induced the mycelial morphological abnormalities, and decreased the sclerotoid production of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum in sealed plates. Spores of Botrytis cinerea exposed to these volatiles for 24-48 h in cavity slides cracked and the sporaceous inclusion became brown and effused to the suspension. An interesting phenomenon observed was that all the bacterial volatiles exhibited intense inhibitory activities against the pigment formation of tested pathogenic fungi, including Ascochyta citrullina, Alternaria solani, Alternaria brassicae, and so on. Interactions mediated by microbial volatiles could be widespread in soils, and volatiles may play an important role in reducing disease levels. A phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rDNA sequence placed the four bacteria in three species Paenibacillus polymyxa （BMP-11）, Bacillus subtilis （BL02）, and Bacillus pumilus （BSH-4 and ZB 13）. Through headspace sampling and GC-MS analysis, a rich profile was found from B. subtilis and overlapping volatile patterns could be found among the different species. Studies are under the way to find the possible action mechanisms and to seek the effective application of bacterial volatiles in greenhouse.

Sperm banking can preserve male fertility effectively, but the current conditions of sperm cryopreservation in China have not been investigated. This retrospective investigation was based on data collected at multiple centres in China from January 2003 to December 2008. The collected data included urogenital history, indication for cryopreservation, semen parameters, use rate, type of assisted reproductive technique （ART） treatment and pregnancy outcome. The study population included 1 548 males who had banked their semen during the study period at one of the clinics indicated above. Approximately 1.9% （30/1 548） of the cryopreserved semen samples were collected from cancer patients; about 88.8% （1 374/1 548） of the patients had banked their semen for ART and 8.6% （134/1 548） had a male infertility disease （such as anejaculation, severe oligozoospermia and obstructive azoospermia）. The total use rate of cryopreserved semen was 22.7% （352/1 548）, with 119 live births. The cancer group use rate was 6.7% （2/30）, with one live birth by intracytoplasmic single sperm injection （ICSI）. The ART group use rate was 23.2% （319/1 374）, with 106 live births. The reproductive disease group use rate was 23.1% （31/134）, with 12 live births. The semen parameters in each category varied; the cancer patient and infertility disease groups had poor semen quality. In vitro fertilization （IVF） and ICSI were the most common ART treatments for cryopreserved sperm. Semen cryopreservation as a salvage method is effective, but in many conditions it is underutilized, especially in cancer patients. Lack of awareness, urgency of cancer treatment and financial constraints are the main causes of the low access rate. The concept of fertility preservation should be popularized to make better use of this medical service in China.

Sperm morphology was once believed as one of the most predictive indicators of pregnancy outcome in assisted reproductive technology(ART).However,the impact of teratozoospermia on in vitro fertilization(IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI)outcomes and its offspring remains *** order to evaluate the influence of teratozoospermia on pregnancy outcome and newborn status after IVF and ICSI,a retrospective study was *** was a matched case-control study that included 2202 IVF cycles and 2574 ICSI cycles and was conducted at the Reproductive and Genetic Hospital of CITIC-Xiangya in Changsha,China,from June 2013 to June *** were divided into two groups based on sperm morphology:teratozoospermia and normal sperm *** pregnancy outcome and newborn outcome were *** results indicated that couples with teratozoospermia had a significantly lower optimal embryo rate compared to those with normal sperm morphology in IVF(P=0.007),while there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of the fertilization rate,cleavage rate,implantation rate,and pregnancy rate(all P>0.05).Additionally,teratozoospermia was associated with lower infant birth weight in multiple births after *** regard to ICSI,there was no significant difference in both pregnancy outcome and newborn outcome between the teratozoospermia and normal groups(both P>0.05).Furthermore,no increase in the risk of birth defects occurred in the teratozoospermia group after IVF/***,we believe that teratozoospermia has limited predictive value for pregnancy outcomes in IVF/ICSI,and has little impact on the resulting offspring if multiple pregnancy is avoided.
