The explosive growth of communication technology has given rise to a large number of high-quality electromagnetic wave(EMW)absorbing materials,and single-component materials are often difficult to satisfy the *** this study,we propose an etching method of molten chlorine salts under vac-uum to prepare Cl-terminated MXene(MX-Cl)which can meet the requirements of"thin,light,wide and strong"and realize the application of single-component absorbing *** the X and Ku bands,MX-Cl achieves a strong reflection loss of-42.99 dB and an effective absorption bandwidth of 3.44 GHz with the 1.2 mm matching *** presence of Cl groups restricts the free electron movement of surface-Ti,which controls the conductivity of the MX-Cl and optimizes its *** polarization induced by Ti-Cl,interfacial polarization between MXene layers and multiple scattering effects inside the layers all significantly increase the dielectric loss of the MX-Cl *** study provides a new approach to investigating the effect of single atoms on the dielectric properties of *** work also offers a simple and low-cost process for the preparation of single-component MXene EMW-absorbing materials.

Human health is severely threatened by bacterial infections, which fuel urgent demand for the development of novel theranostic agents that are suitable for diagnosing and combating bacterial infections. To meet this goal, we synthesized a new kind of theranostic probes, made of vancomycin (Van)-modified fluorescent silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs-Van). The new probes feature good selectivity for Gram-positive bacterial infections, favorable fluorescence, strong resistance to photobleaching (e.g., 12% loss of fluorescence intensity during 40 min continuous laser excitation in the presence of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus)), and good biocompatibility (e.g., cell viability > 95% during 24 h treatment). Because of these benefits, the probes were effective at prolonged (i.e., 8-day) fluorescence tracking of S. aureus infections in vivo, thus providing a visible and accurate way to evaluate treatment efficacy. Moreover, the resultant SiNPs-Van with a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of ca. 0.5 μg/mL exhibited high antibacterial efficiency of 92.5%, superior to that (76.5%) of free Van with higher MIC of ca. 1 μg/mL.

Improving the thermal shock resistance of ceramics by crack arrest blocks

Ceramics used in the high temperature environment are inevitably subjected to sudden temperature change, which may lead to catastrophic thermal shock failure due to the intrinsic brittleness of ceramics. In this paper, an experimental platform is designed to realize the in-situ observation during the thermal shock experiments. Experimental results show that all the cracks initiate from one of the edge midpoints and propagate to another one for square specimens. such experimental observation is consistent with the maximum tensile stress zone with the maximum temperature gradient given by the finite element method(FEM). The different crack modes resulting from different heating rates after thermal shock experiments are observed and analyzed. Comparison between different clamping methods is conducted to study the effects of boundary conditions on the thermal shock experiments. Furthermore, in order to improve the thermal shock performance of alumina ceramics, crack arrest blocks are added near the edge midpoint. The thickness, shape and arrangement of the blocks are systematically investigated to understand the mechanism of improvement of thermal shock resistance.

The effects of fertilizers and water content on N2O emission were studied using the three most typical plantation soils. Soil incubations were performed and fertilization and water content treatments were designed. At 25% of saturated water content（SWC）, N2O emissions from the soil treated with urea, KNO3, （NH4）2 SO, and KH2 PO, were compared at application rates of 0, 100, 200, 300 and 500 kg/hm2. At 80% of SWC, similar experiments were carried out but at only one application rate（500 kg/hm^2）. N2O emissions at various water contents（20%, 35%, 50%, 65%, 80% and 100% of SWC） were studied. At low water content（25% of SWC）, neither nitrogen nor phosphorus（or potassium） fertilizers led to a high level of N2O emission, which generally ranged from 2.03 to 29.02 μg/（m^2·h）. However, at high water content（80% SWC）, the fertilizers resulted in much greater N2O emission irregardless of soil tested. The highest N2O emission rates after 24 h of water addition were 1233 lag/（ m^2 ·h） for S. superba soil, 1507 lag/（m^2 · h） for P. elliottii soil and 1869 lag/ （m^2 h） for A. mangium soil respectively. N2O emission from soils treated with urea, （NH4）2SO, and KH2PO, immediately dropped to a low level but steadily increased to a very high level for the soil treated with KNO3. High NO3^- content was a basis of high level of N2O emission. N2O emission rates from soils peaked shortly after flooding, rapidly dropping to a very low level in soil from non-legume plantations, but lasting for a relatively long period in soil from legume plantations. When soil water content increased equaling to or higher than 65%, the accumulated N2O emission over a period of 13 d ranged from 20.21-29.78 mg/m^2 for S. superba, 30.57-70.12 mg/m^2 for P. elliottii and 300.89-430.51 mg/m^2 for A. mangium. The critical water content was 50% of SWC, above which a high level of N2O emission could be expected, and below which very little N2O emissions were detected.
