Cloud computing provides the essential infrastructure for multi-tier Ambient Assisted Living(AAL) applications that facilitate people's lives. Resource provisioning is a critically important problem for AAL applications in cloud data centers(CDCs). This paper focuses on modeling and analysis of multi-tier AAL applications, and aims to optimize resource provisioning while meeting requests' response time constraint. This paper models a multi-tier AAL application as a hybrid multi-tier queueing model consisting of an M/M/c queueing model and multiple M/M/1 queueing models. Then, virtual machine(VM) allocation is formulated as a constrained optimization problem in a CDC, and is further solved with the proposed heuristic VM allocation algorithm(HVMA). The results demonstrate that the proposed model and algorithm can effectively achieve dynamic resource provisioning while meeting the performance constraint.

Water region detection based on SAR images is a difficult problem for its computing *** paper proposes a novel water region detection method in SAR image of complex scenery. The algorithm takes advantages of Bag of visual words(BOV) to precisely describe the homogeneous region in complex scenery. Local pattern histogram(LPH) and single-class Support vector machine(SVM) are adopted to determine the edge information of water region precisely. The feature extraction is calculated block by block, which reduces computing workload and interference from noise. The experiments based on SAR images of real complex scenery show that the proposed method achieves higher accuracy and robustness.

The middle-aged Galactic supernova remnant （SNR）-the Cygnus Loop （CL）-displays a peculiar morphology in X-rays,featuring a blowout in the southern *** underlying process accounting for the formation of the peculiar periphery remains a *** this end,we conduct hydrodynamical simulations to investigate the SNR evolution coupled with a tailored stellar-wind model:a bipolar stellar wind emanating from a runaway red supergiant progenitor,excavating a wind-blown cavity elongated along *** simulation results reveal that the forward shock of the consequent SNR sweeps up the modified ambient media,shaping the overall morphology with a blowout comparable to that of ***,a series of simulation runs are performed to assess the impacts of different model parameters and the projection effect (observational angle θobs) on the final SNR *** physical quantities are extracted from simulation results to characterize the simulated SNR and make a direct comparison with the X-ray observations of *** find that the final SNR morphology is sensitive to both stellar-wind properties and θobs.A Cygnus-Loop-like SNR could be reproduced under appropriate parameter combinations at θobs=0°.While for ■,the projected morphology akin to CL could be also generated under specific conditions.

Controllable synthesis of elongated hexagonal bipyramid shaped La(OH)3 nanorods and the distribution of electric property by off-axis electron holography

Rare earth oxides/hydroxides are important emerging materials owing to their unique properties. Shape-controlled synthesis of elongated hexagonal bipyramid shaped La(OH)3nanorods with different aspect ratios and trigram-shaped LaCO3OH nanosheets was systematically carried out by controlling the reaction conditions. Hydrazine and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) surfactants used in synthesis are assumed to play a key “dual-template” role in determining the aspect ratio and shape of the resulting nanostructures. Elongated hexagonal bipyramid shaped La(OH)3nanorods were found to grow along the preferred orientation [0001]. Six equivalent crystallographic facets, (Formula presented.), and (Formula presented.) lattice planes, were found to be exposed on the side surfaces on each nanorod as confirmed by combined transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) analyses. A double-polarization phenomenon was found to occur at the nanorod surfaces by employing off-axis electron holography, implying that the material could be used as an effective dielectric microwave absorber. La(OH)3nanorods with larger aspect ratios exhibit better absorption properties with respect to the maximum reflection loss and effective absorbing bandwidth. Thus, a novel method towards the reasonable design of bipyramid shaped La(OH)3nanorods exhibiting tunable microwave absorption properties is proposed based on our synthesis strategy. A steep rock hill with two side slopes located at DK30＋256 of National Road 213 was used as a prototype for analysis. The full process from initial deformation to sliding of the slope during ground shaking was simulated by using a new Continuum-based Discrete Element Method. During the earthquake, when shaking amplitudes were lower, the stress concentration points firstly appeared at the top of the slip mass, and then some tension failure points appeared, followed by shear failure points. At the same time, both the instantaneous frequencies of accelerations in the bedrock and that in the slip mass basically stayed in two different ranges. The energy transmittance coefficients of the sliding surface also stayed in a high range. As the ground shaking lasted, the number of failure points gradually increased until landslide occurrence. The instantaneous frequencies of accelerations in the slip mass and the energy transmittance coefficients of sliding surface gradually decreased, and both finally converged to a lower range. And then, the reasons triggering landslides are analysis in the joint time-frequency domain using Hilbert-Huang Transform, as follows： the differenees of distribution and dissipation of the earthquake energy and the inconsistency of movements between the slip mass and the bedrock were the two major influence factors.
