Long QT syndrome (LQT) is a disease of cardiac repolarization caused by alterations in the transmembrane potassium and sodium currents. This results in prolongation of the QT interval on electrocardiography (EKG) and can result in torsade de pointes and sudden cardiac death. We present a case of a patient who has Anderson Tawil syndrome;a congenital long QT syndrome, with a history of cardiac arrhythmias who developed acute paranoid schizophrenia that was refractory to treatment with non-QT-prolonging drugs and required institution of neuroleptics to control her psychiatric symptoms.

BACKGROUND The investigation of plant-based therapeutic agents in medicinal plants has revealed their presence in the extracts and provides the vision to formulate novel techniques for drug *** negundo(***),a perennial herb belonging to the Varbanaceae family,is extensively used in conventional *** To determine the existence of therapeutic components in leaf and callus extracts from wild *** plants using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GCMS).METHODS In this study,we conducted GC-MS on wild plant leaf extracts and correlated the presence of constituents with those in callus *** growth regulators such as 6-benzylaminopurine(BAP),2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2,4-D),α-naphthylacetic acid(NAA),and di-phenylurea(DPU)were added to plant leaves and in-vitro callus and grown on MS *** The results clearly indicated that the addition of BAP(2.0 mg/L),2,4-D(0.2 mg/mL),DPU(2.0 mg/L)and 2,4-D(0.2 mg/mL)in MS medium resulted in rapid callus *** plant profile of Vitex extracts by GC-MS analysis showed that 24,10,and 14 bioactive constituents were detected in the methanolic extract of leaf,green callus and the methanolic extract of white loose callus,*** Octadecadienoic acid,hexadecanoic acid and methyl ester were the major constituents in the leaf and callus methanolic *** acid was the most common constituent in all *** maximum concentration of octadecadienoic acid in leaves,green callus and white loose callus was 21.93%,47.79%and 40.38%,*** findings demonstrate that the concentration of octadecadienoic acid doubles in-vitro compared to *** addition to octadecadienoic acid;butyric acid,benzene,1-methoxy-4-(1-propenyl),dospan,tridecanedialdehyde,methylcyclohexenylbutanol,chlorpyrifos,n-secondary terpene diester,anflunine and other important active compounds were also *** these components were only available in callus formed in-vit

Multiple lines of evidence show that soluble oligomer forms of amyloidβprotein(Aβ42)are the most neurotoxic species in the brain and correlates with the degree of neuronal loss and cognitive deficit in Alzheimer’s *** many studies have used mammalian cells to investigate oligomer Aβ42 toxicity,the use of more simple eukaryotic cellular systems offers advantages for large-scale screening *** have previously established and validated budding yeast,Saccharomyces cerevisiae to be a simple and a robust model to study the toxicity of Aβ.Using colony counting based methods,oligomeric Aβ42 was shown to induce dose-dependent cell death in *** have adapted this method for high throughput screening by developing an absorbance-based growth *** further validated the assay with treatments previously shown to protect oligomer Aβ42 induced cell death in mammalian and yeast *** assay offers a platform for studying underlying mechanisms of oligomer Aβ42 induced cell death using gene deletion/overexpression libraries and developing novel agents that alleviate Aβ42 induced cell death.

Background and aims:Screening patients at risk for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)facilitates early detection of disease,with improved *** most common causes of HCC include chronic viral hepatitis infection—namely hepatitis B,hepatitis C,and *** aim of this study was to assess the awareness of screening among physicians involved in the management of patients at risk for ***:Three hundred physicians from three academic centers were invited to participate in a mailed survey *** main outcome measure was physicians’knowledge of the current HCC screening *** and clinical variables were obtained from the survey ***:A total of 177(59.0%)out of the 300 invited physicians responded to the survey questionnaire,including faculty members(n=129),residents(n=46),and fellows(n=2).The specialty areas of the responding physicians were internal medicine(62.1%),family medicine(16.4%),gastroenterology(15.3%),oncology(3.4%)and others(2.8%).The number of physicians who performed HCC screening in patients with cirrhosis secondary to chronic hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis C infection were 163(92.1%)and 167(94.4%),respectively;35.0%of them used alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)every 6 months,while 22.0%used imaging modalities every 6 months to screen for ***,22 physicians(12.4%)did not check for serum AFP levels and 33(18.6%)never used imaging to screen for ***:The majority of the participating physicians screen high-risk patients for ***,the most appropriate modality of screening(***)is not employed by most physicians and there is greater reliance on AFP levels.
