Effect of FFP2/N95 facemask wear on retinal and choroidal thickness profile in healthy subjects

AIM: To investigate the influence of non-oil 95(N95)/filtering facepiece 2(FFP2) facemask wear on retinal thickness, choroidal thickness(CT), retinal nerve fiber layer thickness(RNFLT), and ganglion cell layer thickness(GCLT) in healthy ***: In this prospective study, 53 healthy participants who used FFP2/N95 facemask were enrolled. Participants underwent optical coherence tomography imaging before and at 1 and 4h following FFP2/N95 facemask wear. The last imaging session was performed 1h after FFP2/N95 removal. Retinal thickness, CT, RNFLT, and GCLT were assessed at each session. Vital parameters were also assessed. RESULTS: The pulse rate of the subjects significantly decreased at 1 and 4h compared to baseline values(P<0.05). No significant changes in retinal thickness, RNFLT, and GCLT were observed in the study. CT profile showed a significant increase at all measured locations except 1-mm temporal, 1-mm inferior and 2-mm inferior points following FFP2/N95 wear which turned to baseline values after FFP2/N95 removal. Pulse rate and CT changes at 4h were significantly correlated(P<0.05).CONCLUSION: Parasympathetic activation during FFP2/N95 facemask wear might have a role on elevated CT measurements in healthy individuals by virtue of increased choroidal blood flow.

AIM:To evaluate the central corneal thickness(CCT)measurements of premature infantsMETHODS:The premature infants who were born between 25-34wk of gestational age(GA)were retrieved for the *** CCT measurements were performed within the first 2d of their life under topical anesthesia by using an ultrasonic ***:The mean CCT of 200 eyes was 647.79±63.94μ*** mean CCT of the right and left eyes were similar(647.30±64.72μm and 648.29±63.47μm consecutively).The mean CCT of the girls was 642.08±54.89μm and the boys was 653.07±71.14μm,with no statistically significant difference(P>0.05).But there was a negative correlation of the CCT with GA and birth weight(BW)(P<0.01).CONCLUSION:The CCT values of premature babies were negatively correlated with GA and BW.

Investigation of Relationship with Health Problems and Environmental Problems in the Silivri District of Istanbul

The purpose of this study is to investigate relationship between health and environmental problems in the district of Istanbul. This study is a cross-sectional questionnaire study that was conducted in the Silivri among the dates of 25th May-24th July, 2015. Questionnaires were conducted from 221 people living in Silivri with face to face interviews by researchers. Most of participants （82.4%） thought the presence of hazardous environmental factors deteriorated their health （n = 182）. Water pollution （48.4%, n = 107） and absence of free water （50.7%, n = 112） were the most common complaints of the participants. Analyzing distribution of factors which disrupt health and history of chronic disease to urban and rural areas revealed more complaints about those factors and diseases in the rural areas than urban areas. The most common chronic diseases diagnosed were hypertension （15.8%, n = 35）, chronic lung diseases （10.4%, n = 23）, diabetes and coronary artery disease. Silivri people reported a lot of environmental problems which impair the public health. People living in villages close to industrial zone and seas which have marine pollution have more history of diseases and report more factors that negatively influence the health than people living in urban area.
