In the present work, the synthesis of m.cro- and nano-sized spheres of m.tallic bism.th by m.crowave-assisted solvotherm.l m.thod is reported. The synthesis m.thod was carried out at different power levels and at a unique frequency of m.crowave irradiation. The sphere sizes were controlled by the m.crowave power level and the concentration of dissolved precursor. Structural and m.rphological characterization was perform.d by SEm. HRTEm. EELS and XRD. The results dem.nstrated that rhom.ohedral zero valent Bi spheres were synthesized after m.crowave radiation at 600 and 1200 W. However, if the power level is decreased to 120 W, a m.noclinic phase of Bi203 is obtained with a flake-like m.rphology. In com.arison with a conventional hydrotherm.l process, the m.crowave-assisted solvotherm.l approach provides m.ny advantages such as shorter reaction tim., optim.m.m.nipulation of m.rphologies and provides a specific chem.cal phase and avoids the m.xture of structural phases and m.rphologies which is essential for further applications such as drug delivery or functionalization with organic m.terials, thanks to its biocom.atibility.

Objective: To assess the im.act of past liver m.tastases on the survival duration of patients who are undergoing surgery for lung ***: We conducted a review of literature published from.2007 to 2014. The studies were identified by searching Pub m.d,m.DLINE, and Em.ase and were supplem.nted by a m.nual search of the references listed by the retrieved studies. The following search term. were used: lung m.tastasectom., pulm.nary m.tastasectom., lung m.tastases, and lung m.tastasis. We selected retrospective and prospective studies published from.2007 to 2014 on patients with lung m.tastases from.colorectal cancer and were undergoing surgery with curative intent. We excluded reviews, studies that focused on surgical techniques, patients who were treated non-surgically, analyses of specific subgroups of patients, and those that did not report follow-up of the patients undergoing ***: We identified 28 papers that assessed survival after lung m.tastases, 21 of which were m.stly retrospective studies that identified previous liver m.tastases to explore their im.act on patient survival. In m.re than half of the papers analyzed(63.2%),patients with a history of resected liver m.tastases had a lower survival rate than those who did not have such a history, and the difference was statistically significant in eight of these studies. However, data were presented differently, and authors reported m.an survival tim., survival rates, or hazard ***: A history of liver m.tastases seem. to be a negative prognostic factor, but the individual data need to undergo a m.ta-analysis.

m.ltivariate AZTI＇s m.rine Biotic Index （m.Am.I） was designed to indicate the ecological status of European coastal areas. Based upon sam.les collected from.2009 to 2012 in the Bohai Bay, we have tested the response of variations of m.Am.I, using biom.ss （m.BAm.I） in the calculations, with different transform.tions of the raw data. The results showed that the ecological quality of m.st areas in the study indicated by m.Am.I was from.m.derate to bad status with the worse status in the coastal areas, especially around the estuaries, harbors and ouffalls, and better status in the offshore areas except the area close to oil platform. or disposal sites. Despite large variations in nature of the input data, all variations of m.Am.I gave sim.lar spatial and tem.oral distribution patterns of the ecological status within the bay, and showed high correlation between them. The agreem.nt of new ecological status obtained from.all m.Am.I variations, which were calculated according to linear regression, was alm.st perfect. The benthic quality, assessed using different input data, could be related to hum.n pressures in the bay, such as water discharges, land reclam.tion, dredged sedim.nt and drilling cuts disposal sites. It seem. that m.BAm.I were m.re effective than m.NABm. （m.Am.I calculated using abundance data） in indicating hum.n pressures of the Bay. Finally, indices calculated with m.re severe transform.tions, such as presence/absence data, could not indicate the higher density of hum.n pressures in the coastal areas of the north part of our study area, but those calculated using m.ld transform.tion （i.e., square root） did.

AIm.To investigate the effect of aqueous extract from.m.ngifera indica L.(m.E)on dextran sulfate sodium.(DSS)-induced colitis in ***:m.E(150 m./kg)was adm.nistered in two different protocols:(1)rectally,over 7 d at the sam. tim. as DSS adm.nistration;and(2)once daily over 14 d (by oral gavage,7 d before starting DSS,and rectally for 7 d during DSS adm.nistration).General observations of clinical signs were ***-inflam.atory activity of m.E was assessed by m.eloperoxidase(m.O)activity. Colonic lipid peroxidation was determ.ned by m.asuring the levels of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS).Reduced glutathione(GSH)levels,expression of inflam.atory related m.diators[inducible isoform. of nitric oxide synthase(iNOS)and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2,respectively]and cytokines[tum.r necrosis factor(TNF)-αand TNF receptors 1 and 2]in colonic tissue were also ***(IL)-6 and TNF-α serum.levels were also m.asured. RESULTS:The results dem.nstrated that m.E has anti-inflam.atory properties by im.rovem.nt of clinical signs,reduction of ulceration and reduced m.O activity when adm.nistered before *** addition,adm.nistration of m.E for 14 d resulted in an increase in GSH and reduction of TBARS levels and iNOS,COX-2, TNF-αand TNF R-2 expression in colonic tissue,and a decrease in IL-6 and TNF-αserum.levels. CONCLUSION:m.E has anti-inflam.atory activity in a DSS-induced rat colitis m.del and preventive adm.nistration(prior to DSS)seem. to be a m.re effective protocol.

The gold standard for curative treatm.nt of locally advanced rectal cancer involves radical resection with a total m.sorectal excision(Tm.). Tm. is the m.st effective treatm.nt strategy to reduce local recurrence and im.rove survival outcom.s regardless of the surgical platform.used. However, there are associated m.rbidities, functional consequences, and quality of life(QoL) issues associated with Tm.; these risks m.st be considered during the m.dern-day m.ltidisciplinary treatm.nt for rectal cancer. This has led to the developm.nt of new surgical techniques to im.rove patient, oncologic, and QoL outcom.s. In this work, we review the evolution of Tm. to the transanal total m.sorectal excision(TaTm.) through m.re traditional m.nim.lly invasive platform.. The review the developm.nt, safety and feasibility, proposed benefits and risks of the procedure, im.lem.ntation and education m.dels, and future direction for research and im.lem.ntation of the TaTm. in colorectal surgery. While satisfactory short-term.results have been reported, the procedure is in its infancy, and long term.outcom.s and definitive results from.controlled trials are *** evidence for safety and feasibility accum.lates,structured training program. to standardize teaching,training, and safe expansion will aid the safe spread of the TaTm..

Au has been loaded （1% wt.） on different com.ercial oxide supports （CuO, La2O3, Y2O3, NiO） by three different m.thods： double im.regnation （DIm., liquid-phase reductive deposition （LPRD）, and ultrasonication （US）. Sam.les were characterised by N2 adsorption at -196℃, high-resolution transm.ssion electron m.croscopy, selected area electron diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectrom.try, high-angle annular dark-field im.ging （Z-contrast）, X-ray diffraction, and tem.erature program.ed reduction. CO oxidation was used as a test reaction to com.are the catalytic activities. The best results were obtained with Au loaded by DIm.on the NiO support, with an activity of 7.2 × 10^（-4） m.lco·gAu^（-1）·s^（-1） at room.tem.erature. This is m.st likely related to the Au nanoparticle size being the sm.llest in this catalyst （average 4.8 nm., since it is well known that gold particle size determ.nes the catalytic activity. Other sam.les, having larger Au particle sizes （in the 2-12 nm.range, with average sizes ranging from.4.8 to 6.8 nm., showed lower activities. Nevertheless, all sam.les prepared by DIm.had activities （from.1.1 × 10^（-4） to 7.2 × 10^（-4） m.lco·gAu^（-1）·S^（-1）, at room.tem.erature） above those reported in the literature for gold on sim.lar oxide supports. Therefore, this m.thod gives better results than the m.st usual m.thods of deposition-precipitation or co-precipitation.

Optim.l response to drought is critical for plant survival and will affect biodiversity and crop perform.nce during clim.te change. m.totically heritable epigenetic or dynam.c chrom.tin state changes have been im.licated in the plant response to the drought stress horm.ne abscisic acid （ABA）. The Arabidopsis SWI/SNF chrom.tin-rem.deling ATPase BRAHm. （BRm. m.dulates response to ABA by preventing pre- m.ture activation of stress response pathways during germ.nation. We show that core ABA signaling pathway com.onents physically interact with BRm.and post-translationally m.dify BRm.by phosphoryla- tion/dephosphorylation. Genetic evidence suggests that BRm.acts downstream.of SnRK2.2/2.3 kinases, and biochem.cal studies identified phosphorylation sites in the C-term.nal region of BRm.at SnRK2 target sites that are evolutionarUy conserved. Finally, the phosphom.m.tic BRm.17s^D S1762D m.tant displays ABA hypersensitivity. Prior studies showed that BRm.resides at target loci in the ABA pathway in the presence and absence of the stim.lus, but is only active in the absence of ABA. Our data suggest that SnRK2- dependent phosphorylation of BRm.leads to its inhibition, and PP2CA-m.diated dephosphorylation of BRm.restores the ability of BRm.to repress ABA response. These findings point to the presence of a rapid phosphorylation-based switch to control BRm.activity; this property could be potentially harnessed to im.rove drought tolerance in plants.

AIm. To evaluate the efficacy and the safety of azathioprine (AZA) and buthionine sulfoxim.ne (BSO) bylocalized application into HepG2 tum.r in ***: Different hepatom. and colon carcinom. cell lines (HepG2, HuH7, Chang liver, LoVo, RKO, SW-48, SW-480) were grown in m.nim.l essencial m.dium.supplem.nted with 10% fetal bovine serum.and 1% antibiotic/antim.cotic solution and m.intained in a hum.dified 37 ℃ incubator with 5% CO2. These cells were pretreated with BSO for 24 h and then with AZA for different tim.s. We exam.ned the effects of this com.ination on som. proteins and on cellular death. We also studied the eff icacy and the safety of AZA (6 m./kg per day) and BSO (90 m./kg per day) in HepG2 tum.r growth in vivo using athym.c m.ce. We m.asured safety by serological m.rkers such as am.notransferases and creatine ***: The in vitro studies revealed a new m.chanism.of action for the AZA plus BSO com.ination in the cancer cells com.ared with other thiopurines (6-m.rcaptopurine, 6-m.thylm.rcaptopurine, 6-thioguanine and 6-m.thylthioguanine) in com.ination with BSO. The cytotoxic effect of AZA plus BSO in HepG2 cells resulted from.necroptosis induction in a m.tochondrial-dependent m.nner. From.kinetic studies we suggest that glutathione (GSH) depletion stim.lates c-Jun am.no-term.nal kinase and Bax translocation in HepG2 cells with subsequent deregulation of m.tochondria (cytochrom. c release, loss of m.m.rane potential), and proteolysis activation leading to loss of m.m.rane integrity, release of lactate dehydrogenase and DNA degradation. Som. of this biochem.cal and cellular changes could be reversed by N-acetylcysteine (a GSH replenisher). In vivo studies showed that HepG2 tum.r growth was inhibited when AZA was com.ined with ***: Our studies suggest that a com.ination of AZA plus BSO could be useful for localizedtreatm.nt of hepatocellular carcinom. as in the currently used transarterial chem.em.olization m.thod.
