Future Trends in Computer Graphics： How Much is Enough？

Over the forty-year history of interactive computer graphics, there have beencontinuous advances, but at some stage this progression must terminate with images beingsufficiently realistic for all practical purposes. How much detail do we really need? Polygon countsover a few million imply that on average each polygon paints less than a single pixel, making useof polygon shading hardware wasteful. We consider the problem of determining how much realism isrequired for a variety of applications. We discuss how current trends in computer graphics hardware,and in particular of graphics cards targeted at the computer games industry, will help or hinderachievement of these requirements. With images now being so convincingly realistic in many cases,critical faculties are often suspended and the images are accepted as correct and truthful althoughthey may well be incorrect and sometimes misleading or untruthful. Display resolution has remainedlargely constant in spatial terms for the last twenty years and in terms of the number of pixels hasincreased by less than an order of magnitude. If the long-promised breakthroughs in displaytechnology are finally realised, how should we use the increased resolution?

Electrolytes can be taken orally or intravenously as supplements or thera- peutics. However, their therapeutic window may exceed the serum toxicity threshold, making systemic delivery a poor option. Local injection is also not adequate due to rapid diffusion of electrolytes. Here, we solved this issue with a nanocapsule technolog~ comprising an electrolyte nanocrystal as the drug filling and a silica sheath to regulate drug release rates. In particular, we prepared LiF@SiO2 nanocapsules and investigated their potential as a delivery system for lithium, which was shown in recent studies to be an effective therapeutic agent for osteoarthritis （OA）. We demonstrated that LiF@SiO2 can extend lithium release time from minutes to more than 60 h. After intra- articular （i.a.） injection into a rat OA model, the nanocapsules reduced the Osteoarthritis research Society International （OArSI） score by 71% in 8 weeks while inducing no systemic toxicity. Our study opens new doors for improved delivery of electrolyte therapeutics, which have rarely been studied in the past.

We report high-temperature thermodynamics for fcc silver by combining ab initio phonon dynamics to empirical quadratic temperature-dependent term for anharmonic part of Helmholtz free energy. The electronic free energy is added through an interpolation scheme, which connects ambient condition free electron gas model to Thomas-Fermi *** present study shows good agreement with experimental and reported findings for several thermal properties, and the discrepancy observed in some caloric properties is addressed. The decreases in the product of volume thermal expansion coefficient and isothermal bulk modulus and in the constant volume anharmonic lattice specific heat at high temperature are the clear evidences of proper account of anharmonicity. The present study also reveals that T-2-dependent anharmonic free energy is sufficient for correct evaluation of thermal pressure and conventional Grüneisen parameter. We observe that the intrinsic phonon anharmonicity starts dominating above characteristic temperature, which is attributed to higher order anharmonicity and can be related to higher order potential derivatives. We conclude that the uncorrelated and largeamplitude lattice vibrations at high temperature raise dominating intrinsic thermal stress mechanism, which surpasses the phonon-anharmonism and requires future consideration.

AIM:To evaluate the outcomes of endoscopic mucosal resection(EMr) for colorectal polyps,with particular regard to procedural complications and recurrence rate,in typical United Kingdom(UK) hospitals that perform an average of about 25 colonic EMrs per ***:A total of 239 colorectal polyps(≥ 10 mm) resected from 199 patients referred to rochdale Infirmary,Salford royal Hospital and royal Oldham Hospital for EMr between January 2003 and January 2009 were ***:The mean size of polyps resected was 19.6 ± 12.4 mm(range 10-80 mm).The overall major complication rate was 2.1%.Complications were less frequent with non-adenomas compared with the other groups(Pearson's χ 2 test,P resections of largersized polyps were more likely to result in complications(unpaired t-test,P = 0.021).recurrence was associated with histology,with carcinoma-in-situ more likely to recur compared with low-grade dysplasia [hazard ratio(Hr) 186.7,95% confidence interval(95% CI):8.81-3953.02,P = 0.001].Distal lesions were also more likely to recur compared with right-sided and transverse colon lesions(Hr 5.93,95% CI:1.35-26.18,P = 0.019).CONCLUSION:EMr for colorectal polyps can be performed safely and effectively in typical UK *** follow-up is required for histologically advanced lesions due to increased recurrence risk.

For any group G, denote byπe(G) the set of orders of elements in G. Given a finite group G, let h(πe (G)) be the number of isomorphism classes of finite groups with the same set πe(G) of element orders. A group G is called k-recognizable if h(πe(G)) = k rwise G is called non-recognizable. Also a 1-recognizable group is called a recognizable (or characterizable) group. In this paper the authors show that the simple groups PSL(3,q), where 3 re recognizable.

We investigate the role of core potential in high ionization potential systems on high harmonic generation (HHG) spectra and obtain attosecond pulses. In our scheme, we use a standard soft core potential to model high ionization potential systems and irradiated these systems with fixed laser parameters. We observe the role of these systems on all the three steps involved in HHG process including ionization, propagation and recombination. In our study, the results illustrate that for high ionization potential systems, the HHG process is more sensitive to the ionization probability compared to the recombination amplitude. We also observe that due to the stronger core potential, small oscillations of the electrons during the propagation do not contribute to the HHG spectrum, which implies the dominance of only long quantum paths in the HHG spectrum. Our results, for attosecond pulse generation, show that long quantum path electrons are responsible for the supercontinuum region near the cutoff, which is suitable for the extraction of a single attosecond pulse in this region.
