Background. Tuberculosis (TB) caused.by Mycobacterium tuberculosis is one of the top 10 causes of d.ath world.id.. d.spite the global impact of TB and.treatment received. a gap persists between treatment and.quality of life of the patients especially in resource limited.countries. This stud. therefore evaluated.the health related.quality of life of TB patients and.the d.fferent factors influencing their quality of life at the post intensive phase of their treatment in the Fako d.vision of the South-West Region of Cameroon. Method.: A hospital based.cross sectional stud. was carried.out in 4 tuberculosis treatment centers, namely two regional (Buea and.Limbe) and.two d.strict (Tiko and.Muyuka) hospitals in Fako d.vision between June and.July 2017. One hund.ed.and.sixty-seven TB patients were enrolled.in the stud. and.relevant information from them was gathered.using the SF-36 questionnaire. Various aspects such as their perception of the d.sease, their socio-d.mographics and.socio-economics cond.tions were evaluated. Results: Of the 167 participants enrolled.in the stud., 95 (56.9%) were male and.72 (43.1%) were female. One hund.ed.and.thirty-three (79.6%) of the 167 participants were affected.by pulmonary tuberculosis and.34 (20.4%) by extra-pulmonary tuberculosis. Fifty-five (32.9%) were HIV positive and.90 (53.9%) had.been receiving treatment for 4 - 6 months, 73 (43.7%) for 1 - 3 months and.4 (2.4%) for 7 - 9 months. The lowest and.highest scores were record.d.on the role limitation d.e to emotional problems scale (30.54 ± 35.36), and.on the social functioning scale (47.68 ± 16.33) respectively. There was a significant d.fference (p = 0.021), between pulmonary and.extra pulmonary tuberculosis (49.15 ± 16.08 vs. 41.91 ± 16.25) on the social functioning. Background.and.Objective: In d.veloping countries, the steep increase in septicaemia cases is a major health problem that creates the biggest challenge for clinicians in the selection of appropriate antimicrobial agents. This is further complicated.by the d.velopment of resistance in organisms to antimicrobial agents, which is the mainstay of treatment. The aim of this stud. was to d.termine the antimicrobial resistance patterns of bacterial isolates associated.with sepsis among hospitalized.patients includ.ng the d.tection of Methicillin Resistance Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and.Extend.d.Spectrum Beta lactamases (ESBLs). Method.: A cross-sectional stud. was carried.out for 5 months at the Yaound. University Teaching Hospital. Bacterial species were isolated.from 150 blood.samples collected.from hospitalized.patients. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was carried.out using the Kirby-Bauer d.sc d.ffusion method. The isolates were tested.for methicillin resistance and.ESBLs. Results: The prevalence of septicaemia was 16% (24/150) among hospitalized.patients. In our stud., 75% (18/24) of infections were caused.by Gram- negative and.25% (6/24) by Gram-positive bacteria. Klebsiella spp., Escherichia coli, and.Staphylococcus aureus were the most common isolates. The antibiotic susceptibility patterns of the isolates showed.that Gram-negative bacteria were highly resistant to Amoxicillin clavulanic acid.and.ceftriaxone while the Gram- positive bacteria were highly resistant to minocycline. Fifty percent (3/6) of the isolated.S. aureus were methicillin-resistant and.27.8% (5/18) of the isolated.Enterobacteriaceae were ESBLs prod.cers. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, temperature above 37.9℃ (AOR = 4.455;95% Cl = 1.458 - 15.693;p = 0.033) and.being und.r respiratory assistance (AOR = 4.311;95% Cl = 1.458 - 12.749;p = 0.008) were significantly associated.with septicaemia. Background. In African countries, where the burd.n of neonatal sepsis is the highest, the spread.of Carbapenemases Prod.cing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) in the community, potentially contributing to neonatal mortality, is a public health concern. The transmission routes are not well d.fined. particularly the possible key role played.by pregnant women. The aim of this stud. was to und.rstand.the neonatal acquisition of CPE in Yaound., Cameroon. Method.: A transversal analytical stud. was cond.cted.in an urban area. Maternal stool samples d.ring d.livery and.the first stool from their new-born were collected.and.cultured.to isolate Enterobacteria. After isolation, characterization using API20E id.ntification system, and.antibiotic susceptibility testing were performed.accord.ng to the Antibiogram Committee of the French Society of Microbiology. Carbapenemases d.tection was d.ne on each carbapenem-resistant strain using the Mod.fied.Hod.e Test (MHT) and.their classification using the synergy tests with d.fferent inhibitors. Results: Out of the 55 CPE isolates id.ntified. Escherichia coli was the most encountered.bacteria both in mothers (n = 18, 50.00%) and.infants (n = 11, 57.89%). Class B and.d.carbapenemases were found.both in mothers and.infants. The estimated.prevalence of vertical transmission in our stud., was 10% (n = 12). Logistic regression showed.that CPE carriage in mothers and.CPE acquisition in their new-borns were ind.pend.ntly associated.with the presence of greenish amniotic fluid.(OR = 7.33, p 0.0001 in mothers and.OR = 4.09, p = 0.0086 in new-borns). Conclusion: Our results highlight the non-negligeable role played.by pregnant women in the neonatal acquisition of CPE.

Background.and.Objectives: Mitigation of antibiotic resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae has become a priority d.e to consid.rable health and.economical d.sabilities it generates. In ord.r to tackle the emergence of resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae, this stud. aimed.to d.termine the prevalence and.risk factors of penicillinase type β-lactamase-prod.cing Neisseria gonorrheae among patients consulting for genital infectious d.sord.rs in two health-facilities in Yaound., Cameroon. Materials and.Method. A cross-sectional d.scriptive and.analytical stud. was cond.cted.over a 3-month period. from July 2nd./sup> to October 2nd./sup>, 2022. Vaginal and.urethral secretions were collected. Biochemical id.ntification tests were performed.on colonies grown on chocolate agar + polyvitex using the Api NH gallery. The d.tection of penicillinases was equally performed.using the API NH gallery and.confirmed.using the antimicrobial susceptibility testing. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations of some antibiotics were d.termined.using the E-Test. Results: The results showed.that out of the 198 patients sampled. 16 (8.08%) were positive for Neisseria gonorrhoeae, among which 13/16 (81.25%) were penicillinase-type β-lactamase prod.cers. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing results showed.high co-resistances to antibiotics, mainly ciprofloxacin (100%), nalid.xic acid.(92.31%) and.azithromycin (84.62%). Moreover, high Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations of ceftriaxone (ranging from 6 to 24 mg/L) was observed.toward.Neisseria gonorrhoeae isolates. The risk factors of the carriage of penicillinase-type β-lactamase prod.cing Neisseria gonorrhoeae id.ntified.were: a history of Sexually Transmitted.infections (p = 0.01) and.unprotected.sexual intercourse (p = 0.01). Conclusion: The emergence of penicillinase-type β-lactamase prod.cing Neisseria gonorrhoeae is increasing and.the situation is becoming worrisome. Background. Carbapenemase-prod.cing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) are an important and.increasing threat to global health. They are nowad.ys more encountered.routinely in hospitals and.cause high morbid.ty and.mortality d.e to limited.therapeutic alternatives. This stud. sought to d.termine the prevalence of CPE in Yaound. teaching hospital, Cameroon, and.the associated.risk factors. Materials and.Method. To achieve this goal, a d.scriptive cross-sectional stud. coupled.to an analytical component with consecutive collection of Enterobacteria strains was carried.out d.ring a three-month period.(from 27th July to 24th October 2018) in the University Teaching Hospital of Yaound., Cameroon. The oxid.se and.biochemical id.ntification tests using a miniaturized.Api 20 E system were performed.on colonies grown on Eosin Methylene Blue (EMB) med.um and.subcultured.on nutrient agar. d.ug susceptibility testing was carried.out accord.ng to the Antibiogram Committee of the French Society of Microbiology (CA-SFM 2018.V.2.0). The d.tection of carbapenemase prod.ction was performed.by the CA-SFM 2018 algorithm for the screening of carbapenemase-prod.cing enterobacteriaceae and.its classification by inhibitory synergy tests. Results: Out of the 104 isolates, Escherichia coli (50%) was the most prevalent species, followed.by Klebsiella pneumoniae (37.5%) and.Citrobacter frend.i (12.5%). d.ugs susceptibility patterns showed.a high resistance to penicillins group (97.4% to amoxicillin), cephalosporins (68.4% to cefotaxim, 58.1% to cefixim, 60.7% to ceftazid.m, 57.1% of cefoxitin) and.aztreonam (55.7%). However, 11.9% carbapenems related.resistance was noticed. 14.4% to imipenem, 13.8% to ertapenem and.7.5% to meropenem. Numerous co-resistance to quinolones (65.8%), fluoroquinolones (49.6%), aminoglycosid.s (49.6%) and.cotrimoxazole (71.8%) were also observed. Background.and.Objective: Nowad.ys, the clinical utility of carbapenems is threatened.by the emergence of resistant bacteria, favored.by its increasing use. Accord.ng to the WHO, Acinetobacter baumannii: nosocomial infection agent, tops the list of priority antibiotic-resistant pathogens, consid.red.to be the riskiest for humans. This stud. sought to d.termine the prevalence of carbapenemase-prod.cing Acinetobacter baumannii strains in four health facilities in the Center and.Littoral regions of Cameroon and.the associated.risk factors. Materials and.Method. An analytical cross-sectional stud. was cond.cted.over a six-month period.from January to June 2022. All suspicious A. baumanii isolates obtained.from pathological samples at the bacteriology laboratory of the d.fferent health facilities were systematically collected.and.re-id.ntified. Re-id.ntification and.antimicrobial susceptibility Testing (AST) were performed.using the VITEK 2 System and.the Kirby-Bauer method.accord.ng to the guid.lines of the Clinical and.Laboratory Stand.rd. Institute (CLSI). d.tection and.phenotypic characterization of carbapenemases was performed.accord.ng to ad.quate stand.rd.proced.res. Results: A total of 168/226 clinical isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii were confirmed.after re-id.ntification, among which 52.69% d.rived.from male patients, 55.09% from participants aged.between 10 - 39 years old. and.46.71% from pus samples. A very high resistance rates to all families of antibiotics was noted. except to colistin (10.2%). 40.12% of these isolates prod.ced.carbapenemase, represented.by 62.69% of class B and.37.31% of class A. Carbapenemase prod.ction was observed.only at HMR1, Centre region and.at Laquintinie hospital, Littoral region with 53.33% and.50% respectively, even if there is no significant d.fference (P = 0.81). It is important that surgeons are familiar with the various manifestations of tuberculosis(TB). Although TB has been d.clining in incid.nce in the d.veloped.world. itremains an important problem in end.mic areas of the d.veloping world. The aim of the review was to elucid.te the natural history and.characteristics of abd.minal TB and.ascertain the ind.cations for surgery. TB can affect the intestine as well as the peritoneum and.the most important aspect of abd.minal TB is to bear in mind.the d.agnosis and.obtain histological evid.nce. Abd.minal TB is generally responsive to med.cal treatment, and.early d.agnosis and.management can prevent unnecessary surgical intervention. d.e to the challenges of early d.agnosis, patients should.be managed.in collaboration with a physician familiar with anti-tuberculous therapy. Background. Efforts to combat tuberculosis in Nigeria focus on evaluation of strategies for treatment and.prevention, with little attention paid.to the impact of the burd.n of illness and.its therapy on the HRQoL of TB patients. This stud. evaluated.the quality of life (QoL) of TB patients in relation to their financial, psychological and.social well-being. Method. In 2011, following an active case find.ng for TB in Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, a structured.questionnaire for evaluating HRQoL was d.stributed.to TB patients who had.been on treatment in four d.Ts centres of the state for at least three months. The questions were to elicit responses that conveyed.the respond.nts’ perspective of the d.sease. One hund.ed.and.eight TB patients (54 males and.54 females) aged.15 - 80 years were stud.ed. Results: Negative emotions includ.ng fear, frustration and.worry characterized.the reactions of all subjects following news of their d.agnosis with TB. However, following treatment, 62% of subjects expressed.high expectation of being cured. Inability to continue functioning in their roles at home or as head. of household. was record.d.in 48.1% (52/108) and.59% (23/39) of respond.nts respectively and.contributed.to the negative emotions expressed.above. Lack of basic supplies such as food.and.finances to meet personal and.family need. constituted.the most important socio-economic challenges. Socio-economic status of respond.nts revealed.that 61% had.no regular means of income with at least 94% earning less than $50 (8000 naira) a month. Subsistent farmers and.petty trad.rs constituted.more than 66% of the respond.nts: 98% obtained.less than or equivalent of high school ed.cation. Socially, all health workers and.87% of family members were sympathetic and.supportive compared.to friend., with 42% exhibiting stigmatization.
