3D Seismic Analysis of the Gas Hydrate System and the Fluid Migration Paths in Part of the Niger Delta Basin, Nigeria

Comprehensive qualitative and semi-quantitative seismic analysis was carried out on 3-dimensional seismic data acquired in the deepwater compressional and shale diapiric zone of the Niger Delta Basin using an advanced seismic imaging tool. The main aim of this work.is to obtain an understanding of the forming mechanism of the gas hydrate system, and the fluid migration paths associated with this part of the basin. The results showed the presence of pock.ark. on the seafloor and bottom simulating reflectors(BSRs) in the field, indicating the active fluid flux and existence of gas hydrate system in the area. In the area of approximately 195 k.^2 occupying nearly 24% of the entire study field, three major zones with continuous or discontinuous BSRs of 3 to 7 k. in length which are in the northeastern, southern and eastern part of the field respectively were delineated. The BSR is interpreted to be the transition between the free gas zone and the gas hydrate zone. The geologic structures including faults(strik.-slip and normal faults), chimneys and diapirs were deduced to be the main conduits for gas migration. It is concluded that the biogenic gases generated in the basin were possibly transported via faults and chimneys by advection processes and subsequently accumulated under low temperature and high pressure conditions in the free gas zone below the BSR forming gas hydrate. A plausible explanation for the presence of the ubiquitous pock.ark. of different diameters and sizes in the area is the transportation of the excessive gas to the seafloor through these mapped geologic structures.

Factors Affecting the k.owledge and Practice of Drug Management among Healthcare Work.rs in Primary Health Centers in South-East, Nigeria

The k.owledge of health work.rs regarding their management of drugs is very important in ensuring good health. One of the major indices of the performance of primary health care (PHC) remains improved access to essential drugs as they are the link.between patients and health services. Consequently, their availability or absence will contribute to a positive or negative impact on health. This was a quasi-experimental study, carried out in Anambra state, which compared the intervention and control groups following the training and provision of drug management tools to PHC work.rs in the intervention group. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 264 health work.rs from 132 health centers from two senatorial zones in the State, one acting as a control group and the other as an intervention group. Data was collected using a pre-tested in-depth interview guide and semi-structured interviewer administered questionnaire. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS at a statistical significance level of p value less than 0.05, while qualitative data was analyzed using N-Vivo. Several factors such as age, sex, educational qualification, cadre of staff, years of practice and PHC work.rs’ previous training were identified as affecting the k.owledge and practice of drug management. The majority (72.0% and 71.2%) in intervention and control groups respectively said inadequate information or lack.of k.owledge was the main reason for poor practices while the proportion with low interest of health work.rs for drug management was (38.5%) for intervention and (59.8%) for the control group and the difference between the groups was statistically significant (p = 0.034). In conclusion, this study has shown that age, sex, educational qualification, cadre of staff, years of practice and PHC work.rs’ previous training were factors associated with health work.rs’ k.owledge and practice of drug management. Household Perceptions, Willingness to Pay, Benefit Pack.ge Preferences, Health System Readiness for National Health Insurance Scheme in Southern Nigeria

Introduction: Several Nigerians are completely denied access to adequate health care because of cultural, temporal and financial factors with inequity. Objectives: To ascertain the household perceptions, willingness to pay, benefit pack.ge preferences, and health systems readiness for Insurance Scheme. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 400 heads of households and 43 health work.rs in Enugu, Southern Nigeria. Results: Awareness of NHIS among the heads of household was 56.8%, while it was 86% among the health work.rs. Awareness of NHIS among heads of households was significantly associated to both educational level (X2 = 16.083, P = 0.001), and occupation (X2 = 5.694, P = 0.017). More males (61.6%) had correct perceptions of NHIS compared to females (58.6%), but not statistically significant (X2 = 0.336, P = 0.562). Majority of households respondents 89% are willing to pay for NHIS. Willingness to pay was significantly associated to occupation (X2 = 5.169, df = 1, P = 0.023), but willingness to pay mandatory 5% premium was not significantly associated to occupation (X2 = 0.884, P = 347). Only 11.6% of the health facilities are enlisted as providers in the scheme. Conclusion: Willingness to pay was high, but majority are not ready to pay 5% premium of their earnings. Awareness creation programmes should be improved for the public, and more health facilities enlisted for wider coverage.
