Application of annexation principle to the study of thermodynamic properties of Ag-Bi-In metallic melts

Based on the measured activities, the phase diagrams and the annexation principle, the calculating models of mass action concentrations for Ag-Bi and Ag-Bi-In melts have been formulated. The calculated results agree with practice and obey the mass action law, showing that the models formulated can reflect the structural characteristics of both melts. Meanwhile, it confirms that annexation principle is applicable to the Ag-Bi-In metallic melts. The melts involving eulectic which give rise to phase separation, and in which activities exhibit positive deviation from Raoult's law is the basic cause of melts transforming from homogeneous to heterogeneous ones.

According to the mass action law and the coexistence theory of slagstructure, the calculating models of mass action concentration for CaO-MgO-FeO-Fe_2O_3-SiO_2,CaO-MgO-MnO-FeO-Fe_2O_3-P_2O_5-SiO_2 and CaO-MgO-MnO-FeO-Fe_2O_3-Al_2O_3-P_2O_5-SiO_2 slag melts areformulated and sulphur distribution between the slag melts and liquid iron is treated. It is foundthat CaO, MnO and FeO promote desulphurization, while MgO is detrimental to desulphurization. Inaddition, the sulphur distribution coefficients between the slag melts and liquid iron andpresented.

Based on MEAM (the modified embedded atom method) potential and an average atom model similar to B-W (Bragg-Williams) method, the distribution of Nb atoms in TiAl+Nb compounds with various composition was calculated. The calculation results showed that Nb atoms prefer to occupy the Ti sublattice of L10 structure for all compounds in question. With increasing atomic fraction of Nb and Al, Nb atoms exhibited a trend of ordered distribution on the Ti sublattice and result in a new L10 derivative superlattice structure.

The problem of deducing one-dimensional theory from two-dimensional theory for a transversely isotropic piezoelectric rectangular beam is investigated. Based on the piezoelasticity theory, the refined theory of piezoelectric beams is derived by using the general solution of transversely isotropic piezoelasticity and Lur'e method without ad hoc assumptions. Based on the refined theory of piezoelectric beams, the exact equations for the beams without transverse surface loadings are derived, which consist of two governing differential equations: the fourth-order equation and the transcendental equation. The approximate equations for the beams under transverse loadings are derived directly from the refined beam theory. As a special case, the governing differential equations for transversely isotropic elastic beams are obtained from the corresponding equations of piezoelectric beams. To illustrate the application of the beam theory developed, a uniformly loaded and simply supported piezoelectric beam is examined.

The laser-field induced magnon amplification in a magnetic semiconductorquantum well under an external magnetic field was discussed, it is shown that when the laserfrequency is near to the electron cyclotron frequency, no matter how weaker the laser field is, themagnon amplification always occurs. In case of fixed laser frequency, the optical absorption ofmagnons obeys the definite selection rule to the laser field strength. The rate of change of magnonoccupation is calculated, and the amplification condition is given.

Castex of AS wire is a new technology of near net shape. To study the variation of temperature and velocity of liquid (or semisolid) aluminum during dynamic solidification the numerical simulation was carried out with the theory of heat-transfer and hydrodynamics by means of 3-dimensional finite element method. From simulation results, it is found that the variation of temperature and velocityis mainly influenced by the casting temperature of aluminum, rotating speed of Castex wheel and flow of cooling water. Among theseinfluencing factors, the casting temperature distributes most to the length of liquid phase metal. Moreover, the faster the metal solidifies,the higher the metal there moves with the overall trend of descending from the bottom of the wheel to the shoe wall as well as from sidewalls to the center of wheel groove. In comparison with the practical value, the simulation is reliable.

Based on elasticity theory, the re- fined theory of rectangular beams is derived by using Papkovich-Neuber solution and Lur’e method without ad hoc assumptions. It is shown that the displacements and stresses of the beam can be represented by the angle of rotation and the deflection of the neutral surface. Based on the refined beam theory, the exact equations for the beam without transverse surface loadings are derived and consist of two governing differential equations: the fourth-order equation and the transcendental equation. The approximate equations for the beam under transverse loadings are derived directly from the refined beam theory and are almost the same as the governing equations of Timoshenko beam theory. In two ex- amples, it is shown that the new theory provides better results than Levinson’s beam the- ory when compared with those obtained from the linear theory of elasticity.
