Thermodynamic analysis and preparation of β-SiC/ZrO_2 composites

A predominance area diagram for the Zr-Si-C-O system at 1773 K was plotted according to correlative thermodynamic data. β-SiC/ZrO2 composites were prepared based on the phase diagram by carbothermal reduction of zircon （ZrSiO4） in argon atmosphere. Zircon and carbon black were mixed according to the C/ZrSiO4 mass ratio of 0.2, and with 0, 1wt% and 2wt% extra addition of La2O3. Phase evolution of the mixture was investigated at 1723-1803 K by X-ray powder diffraction, and the microstructure of the product prepared at 1803 K for 4 h was examined by scanning electronic microscope. The results show that the decomposition of ZrSiO4 and the formation of β-SIC can be promoted by increasing the heating temperature and adding La2O3. The β-SiC/ZrO2 composites can be prepared at 1803 K for 4 h in a mixture of zircon, carbon black and La2O3, and the contents of β-SIC and m-ZrO2 in the product sample with 2wt% La2O3 reach the highest values of 10.8wt% and 89.2wt%, respectively. The crystal size of the products is about 200 nm.

Converter slag is a by-product of the steelmaking process and contains a large amount of Ca,Fe,P and other *** the phosphorus in the converter slag can be effectively extracted,the resulting phosphorus can be used as a phosphate *** in converter slag is mainly enriched in 2CaO·SiO_(2)-3CaO·P_(2)O_(5)(C_(2)S-C_(3)P)solid solution and is easily dissolved in ***,acid leaching method was used to dissolve the solid solution to extract phosphorus in converter slag,so as to realize the recycling of phosphorus resources in converter *** leaching behavior of three actual converter slags from different steel mills in acid leaching solutions composed of citric acid,sodium hydroxide,hydrochloric acid and deionized water was studied by X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy combined with energy dispersive spectrometry,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy to reveal the change in object image structure as well as SiO_(4) and PO_(4) tetrahedron before and after acid *** results show that only a small amount of phosphorus in converter slag with too low basicity is enriched in C_(2)S-C_(3)P solid solution,resulting in poor leaching *** the converter slag has a high basicity,the removal effect of phosphorus is 70.64%-81.88%.In addition,when the basicity of converter slag is roughly the same,the dephosphorization effect of slag with high FeO content is relatively *** acid leaching will cause depolymerization behavior of SiO_(4) and PO_(4) tetrahedron,so that the mole fraction of Q0(Si)(asymmetric stretching vibration of Si-O bond in SiO_(4) tetrahedron with bridge oxygen number of 0)and NBO/Si(non-bridging oxygen in silicate tetrahedra)will ***-containing solids can be obtained from the solution after acid leaching through static precipitation,and the solids have the potential to make phosphate fertilizers.

Effect of co-existing organic compounds on adsorption of perfluorinated compounds onto carbon nanotubes

Co-existing organic compounds may affect the adsorption of perfluorinated compounds （PFCs） and carbon nanotubes in aquatic environments. Adsorption of perfluorooctane sulfonate （PFOS）, perfluorooctane acid （PFOA）, perfluorobutane sulfonate （PFBS）, and perfluor- ohexane sulfonate （PFHxS） on the pristine multi-walled carbon nanotubes （MWCNTs-Pri）, carboxyl functionalized MWCNTs （MWCTNs-COOH）, and hydroxyl functiona- lized MWCNTs （MWCNTs-OH） in the presence of humic acid, 1-naphthol, phenol, and benzoic acid was studied. Adsorption kinetics of PFOS was described well by the pseudo-second-order model and the sorption equilibrium was almost reached within 24 h. The effect of co-existing organic compounds on PFOS adsorption followed the decreasing order of humic acid 〉 1-naphthol 〉 benzoic acid〉phenol. Adsorbed amounts of PFOS decreased significantly in the presence of co-existing or preloaded humic acid, and both adsorption energy and effective adsorption sites on the three MWCNTs decreased, resulting in the decrease of PFOS adsorption. With increasing pH, PFOS removal by three MWCNTs decreased in the presence of humic acid and phenol. The adsorbed amounts of different PFCs on the MWCNTs increased in the order ofPFBS 〈 PFHxS 〈 PFOA 〈 PFOS. The increase of both initial concentrations and the number of aromatic rings of co-existing organic compounds suppressed PFOS adsorption on the MWCNTs.

Corrosion resistance of BN-ZrO_(2)ceramics with different additives by molten steel

BN–ZrO_(2)ceramics with different additives such as SiC,Al_(2)O_(3) and MgAl_(2)O_(4) were fabricated by hot pressing sintering process to study sintering properties and corrosion resistance by the rotary immersion molten steel *** results showed that SiC,Al_(2)O_(3) and MgAl_(2)O_(4) can improve the sintering properties of BN–ZrO_(2)ceramics;especially,the introduction of SiC can significantly improve the hardness of the material;thus,the above compounds will help to improve the wear resistance of BN–ZrO_(2)*** exposed oxide layer is in contact with molten steel and forms liquid phase after BN oxidation and B_(2)O_(3) volatilization,additives can significantly affect the properties of liquid phase,and m-ZrO_(2)grains are sintered and grown by dissolution–precipitation mechanism by liquid ***,Al_(2)O_(3) and MgAl_(2)O_(4) are more conducive to the formation of working layer with solid skeleton,which determines the corrosion resistance of BN–ZrO_(2)ceramics.
