Background:Aquaporins(AQPs)are a family of transmembrane water channels that includes orthodox AQPs,aquaglyceroporins(GLPs)and super ***3,AQP7,AQP9 and AQP11 have been identified in boar sperm,and they are crucial for sperm maturation and *** exchange is an important event in cryopreservation,which is the most efficient method for long-term storage of ***,the freezethaw process leads to sperm damage and a loss of fertilizing *** that the quality of frozenthawed sperm partially depends on the regulation of osmolality variations during this process,AQPs might play a crucial role in boar semen *** this context,the aim of this study was to unravel the functional relevance of the different groups of AQPs for boar sperm cryotolerance through three different ***:Inhibition of different groups of AQPs was found to have different effects on boar sperm *** the use of 1,3-propanediol(PDO),an inhibitor of orthodox AQPs and GLPs,decreased total motility(Pcreased post-thaw sperm viability,lowered membrane lipid disorder and increased mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP)(Pcetazolamide(Ac)was used as an inhibitor of orthodox AQPs,the effects on post-thaw sperm quality were restricted to a mild increase in MMP in the presence of the intermediate concentration at 30 min post-thaw and an increase in superoxide levels(Pcts on post-thaw total and progressive sperm motilities,viability and lipid membrane disorder(Pconclusions:The effects of the different inhibitors suggest that GLPs rather than orthodox AQPs are relevant for boar sperm ***,the positive effect of PDO on sperm quality suggests a cryoprotective role for this molecule.

BAcKGROUND Sacubitril-valsartan has been shown to reduce hospitalizations and mortality in patients with heart failure(HF)and reduced ejection *** PIONEER-HF trial demonstrated that initiation of the drug during acute HF hospitalization reduced NT-proBNP levels and a post-hoc analysis of the trial found a reduction in HF hospitalizations and ***-life studies in the elderly population are *** aim of our study was to assess the effectiveness of sacubitril-valsartan versus angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors(AcEI)in elderly patients who initiate this treatment during hospitalization for acute *** We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the Spanish acute heart failure registry(RIcA)comparing rehospitalizations and deaths at 3 months and 1 year among patients aged 70 years or older who had initiated treatment with sacubitrilvalsartan during hospitalization for acute HF versus those treated with *** One hundred and ninety-nine patients hospitalized between October 2016 and November 2020 were included,with a median age of 82 years and high rate of *** these,107 were treated with sacubitril-valsartan and 92 with *** adjusted OR for readmission for HF at 3 months was 0.906(95%cI:0.241-3.404)and for the combined variable readmission for HF or death at 3 months was 0.696(95%cI:0.224-2.167).The adjusted OR for HF readmission at one year was 0.696(95%cI:0.224-2.167).and for the combined variable HF readmission or death at one year 0.724(95%cI:0.325-1.612).cONcLUSION Treatment with sacubitril-valsartan initiated early in hospitalization for HF in elderly patients with high comorbidity was associated with a trend towards a reduction in readmissions and death due to HF compared to treatment with AcEI,which did not reach statistical significance either at 3 months or 1 year of follow-up.

Decreased concentrating capacity in children with febrile urinary tract infection and normal 99mTc-dimercaptosuccinic acid scan:does medullonephritis exist?

Background:Although 99mTc-dimercaptosuccinic acid(DMSA)scan is considered the gold standard for the diagnosis of acute pyelonephritis(AP),sometimes it produces false results in children with clinical features of *** are no studies on the comparison of the sensitivity of DMSA and concentrating capacity ***:Eighty-fi ve infants with AP of less than one year old were studied to evaluate whether they had real AP or *** were compared between infants with an abnormal(group A,n=64)and those with a normal DMSA scan(group B,n=21)respectively.A DDAVP test was performed for each ***:All the infants in both groups presented a high level of c-reactive protein and fever(≥38oc).There were no differences in clinical and analytical variables except c-reactive protein level in the two *** groups exhibited a low urinary osmolality(87.5%in the group A vs.85.7%in the group B).The patients with normal DMSA and decreased concentrating capacity have some renal parenchymal damage and not only a lower urinary *** the infants with an abnormal DMSA scan,33.9%showed renal scars after 6-12 *** infant with a normal DMSA scan showed *** biochemical variables in both groups of infants were not related to vesicoureteral refl ***:Infants with AP,normal DMSA scan and low concentrating capacity may be characterized by a localized infection in the medulla(medullonephritis)or by a false negative DMSA scan.

Well done population-based studies are not abundant, and so comparisons among different geographical areas or populations are not always very reliable. In this article, we have reviewed epidemiological studies available on the world’s population while making a critical review of published data.

Leuprolide acetate induces structural and functional recovery of injured spinal cord in rats

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone（Gn RH） and its synthetic analog leuprolide acetate, a Gn RH agonist, have neurotrophic properties. This study was designed to determine whether administration of leuprolide acetate can improve locomotor behavior, gait, micturition reflex, spinal cord morphology and the amount of microglia in the lesion epicenter after spinal cord injury in rats. Rats with spinal cord compression injury were administered leuprolide acetate or saline solution for 5 weeks. At the 5th week, leuprolide acetate-treated rats showed locomotor activity recovery by 38%, had improvement in kinematic gait and exhibited voiding reflex recovery by 60%, as compared with the 1st week. By contrast, saline solution-treated rats showed locomotor activity recovery only by 7%, but voiding reflex did not recover. More importantly, leuprolide acetate treatment reduced microglial immunological reaction and induced a trend towards greater area of white and gray matter in the spinal cord. Therefore, leuprolide acetate has great potential to repair spinal cord injury.

First report of L1014F kdr mutation in culex quinquefasciatus in Mexico

The L1014F mutation in the voltage-sodium channel gene has been associated with resistance to DDT and pyrethroids in various arthropod species including mosquitoes. We determined the frequency of the L1014F kdr mutation in 16 field populations of culex quinquefasciatus from Northeastern Mexico collected between 2008 and 2013. The L1014F was present in all populations analyzed with the lowest frequency （3.33%） corresponding to the population from Monclova collected in 2012, and the highest frequency （63.63%） from the Monterrey population collected in 2012. The presence of a kdr mutation in populations of cx. quinquefasciatus from northeastern Mexico provides evidence ofpyrethroid resistance. This requires a special attention, considering that pyrethroid-based insecticides are commonly used in vector-control campaigns, especially against Aedes aegypti （L.）.

Description of socioeconomic and demographic profile of young women vulnerable to infection by human papillomavirus and risk behavior in a school in Rio de Janeiro

Background: HPV is one of the main sexually transmitted diseases, especially among the female population. This is an important etiologic agent for the development of cervical intraepithelial lesions and cervical cancer. It is considered a public health problem, since young women are the most vulnerable group to this virus. Therefore, it is important that the socioeconomic and demographic profile of these women and their risk behaviors are known, so that it is possible to contribute in reducing infection occurrences in the studied population. Objectives: To describe the socioeconomic and demographic characteristics and investigate the behavioral sexual-affective aspects of risk of adolescents and young students from Rio de Janeiro/Brazil when tackling HPV infection. Methods: A group composed by 128 individuals susceptible to HPV—classified as adolescent women and young women who are students at a high school in one unity of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. The studied period was from May to November. A quantitative descriptive approach was used, in which data were highlighted in variables, divided into economic, demographic and behavioral characteristics. Data were entered into an Excel spreadsheet and organized by descriptive statistics performed by simple frequency (%). Results: The age range of the young women who have the possibility of being infected with HPV was from 15 to 25. The focused family income among these young women was up to 2 minimum wages. The risk behavior detected in 37.5% of adolescent women and in 43.8% of young women is that these women never used condoms in sexual intercourse. conclusion: The research showed that the studied women are vulnerable due to risk behavior practices that may lead to the virus acquisition. More focuses on educational actions of preventive measures regarding HPV infection should be emphasized, favoring a lower incidence of human papillomavirus infection and cervical cancer.
