Background: cryopreservation is currently the most efficient method for long-term preservation of mammalian gametes and is extensively used in swine artificial insemination(AI) centres. However, it is well-known that cryopreservation procedures induce changes in the water phase in both intra and extracellular compartments,which alter the content and localisation of several proteins and ends up curtailing the structural integrity of functional sperm(i.e., cryoinjuries). Alterations and deficiencies of sperm-oocyte binding proteins during gamete recognition are one of the causes of reproductive failure both in vitro and in vivo. In this sense, characterisation of cryopreservation effects upon oocyte-binding proteins of sperm, such as IZUMO1 and GSTM3, is essential when assessing the impact of this technique in swine ***: cryopreservation was found to induce changes in the localisation of IZUMO1 and GSTM3 in boar ***, the relative content of both proteins was not altered after thawing. Furthermore, whereas IZUMO1 content was found not to be related to the cryotolerance of boar sperm, GSTM3 content was observed to be higher in poor(PFE) than in good(GFE) freezability ejaculates in both pre-frozen(1.00 INT·mm^2± 0.14 INT·mm^2 vs.0.72 INT·mm^2± 0.15 INT·mm^2;P chondrial activity, high reactive oxygen species(ROS) production, and high membrane lipid disorder postthaw(P conclusions: The difference in GSTM3 content between GFE and PFE, together with this protein having been found to be related to poor sperm quality post-thaw, suggests that it could be used as a cryotolerance marker of boar spermatozoa. Furthermore, both IZUMO1 and GSTM3 relocate during cryopreservation, which could contribute to the reduced fertilising capacity of frozen-thawed boar

AIM: To study glutamine synthetase (GS) activity and glutamate uptake in the hippocampus and frontal cortex (Fc) from rats with prehepatic portal vein hypertension. METHODS: Male Wistar rats were divided into shamoperated group and a portal hypertension (PH) group with a regulated stricture of the portal vein. Animals were sacrificed by decapitation 14 d after portal vein stricture. GS activity was determined in the hippocampus and Fc. Specific uptake of radiolabeled L-glutamate was studied using synaptosome-enriched fractions that were freshly prepared from both brain areas. RESULTS: We observed that the activity of GS increased in the hippocampus of PH rats, as compared to control animals, and decreased in the Fc. A significant decrease in glutamate uptake was found in both brain areas, and was more marked in the hippocampus. The decrease in glutamate uptake might have been caused by a deficient transport function, signif icantly and persistent increase in this excitatory neurotransmitter activity. cONcLUSION: The presence of moderate ammonia blood levels may add to the toxicity of excitotoxic glutamate in the brain, which causes alterations in brain function. Portal vein stricture that causes portal hypertension modif ies the normal function in some brain regions.

Purpose: From a social and labor inclusion perspective, the article presents a digital prototype conceptualized to provide a “Diagnostic Page”, which delivers various prescribers and suppliers of support products that mitigate the problems of the respective patients. It also provides a “Patient card Page”, where all the information about financing the respective products is placed, as well as all the documents likely to be needed for the commercial transactions to be carried out by all the parties involved. It also aims to provide a digital medium to grow a community in this niche market. In the action research methodology approach, the prototype was taken to funding competitions and conferences, where interviews and surveys were carried out, and a number of suggestions were collected on the type of platform to consider in order to respond to the concerns and needs of end users, such as patients, prescribers, suppliers and associations. Methods: The digital platform where the system is hosted uses algorithms that, on the diagnostic page, consider keywords used by patients and return a series of prescribers and suppliers of support products, in which the corresponding percentage of attenuation is taken into account and the best solution found to overcome the level of difficulty presented by the respective patients is delivered. Results and conclusions: It is hoped that, with this platform, people with motor problems will be able to obtain their diagnosis instantly, through the algorithm implemented, and that they will immediately be provided with a series of prescribers, suppliers and support products best suited to their needs, as well as all the information or conditions necessary to purchase or finance them. On the other hand, prescribers, suppliers and associations have an online platform where they can offer their consultations, products and other support as freelancers who are part of a community.

Individual tree models(ITMs)are classified as growth and production models for projecting current and future forest *** are more complex than other growth and production models,show a higher level of detail and,consequently,produce a better modeling ***,the accuracy and efficiency of ITMs have not been properly assessed to *** this study,we estimated the growth in height,diameter,and individual tree volume of a Eucalyptus urophylla plantation by applying an *** used a continuing forest inventory dataset in which 1554 individual trees within 29 permanent plots were measured in the field over a 6-year period(24 to 72 months).Each individual tree volume was estimated for future tree *** achieve this,we adjusted the model to predict the height and diameter growth,and the probability of mortality as a function of the competition *** ITM accuracy was assessed based on the analysis of variance results and,subsequently,the multiple mean comparison test at the 5%significance *** tree volumes predicted by the ITM for the forest stand aged 72 months,beginning at ages 24,36,48,and 60 months,were compared to the field measured tree volume acquired from the 72-month forest inventory that was used as the reference *** and observed tree volumes were similar when the estimation was based on the 48-month forest *** results might help to reduce financial costs of forest inventory because the ITM produces accurate future predictions of forest stand *** estimated ITM for Eucalyptus plantations using measurement intervals up to 2 years is recommended because it significantly reduced the projected volume discrepancy compared to the field measurements.

Littorina fabalis is an intertidal snail commonly living on the brown algae Fucus vesiculosus and showing frequent shell-color polymorphisms in the wild. The evolutionary mechanism underlying this polymorphism is currently unknown. Shell color variation was studied in mated and non-mated specimens of this species from different microareas in one locality from NW Spain, in order to estimate sexual selection and assortative mating that may （still） be operating in this population. The analyses across microareas allowed us to investigate frequency-dependent selection and assortative mating components, mechanisms that could maintain the polymorphism. The presence of shell scars caused by crab attacks, an environmental variable not related with sexual selection or assortative mating, was used as experimental control. This study provides new evidence of significant disas- sortative mating and some degree of sexual selection against some shell colors, supporting the results found 21 years ago in a similar study, i.e. in the same species and locality. The similarity of these estimates during the studied period suggests that this experimental approach is consistent and valid to be extended to other populations and organisms. In addition, sexual selection and assortative mating estimates did not change across microareas differing in shell color frequencies, suggesting than the polymor- phism can not be maintained by a frequency-dependent （sexual selection-based） mechanism. Our main hypothesis is that negative assortative mating could contribute to the maintenance of the polymorphism, perhaps by males showing distinct female color preferences when searching for mates [current Zoology 58 （3）： 463-474, 2012].

This paper was made using a descriptive analysis of some indicators from the data basis of Economic commission for Latin America （cEPAL）, cEPAL and answers the question： Have there been enough foreign trade dynamics during the last years （1999-2006） in order to reduce social inequality gaps？ The results here shown correspond to the first stage of a research that relates poverty to countries＇ economic productivity. The article presents foreign trade, economic growth, and social inequality overview in the countries of the Andean community of Nations during the years 1999-2006. In considering this period, the last international crisis is overlooked, but it takes in account the importance of the Millennium Development Goals set by the UNDP. The analysis of the basic indicators reflects that the dynamics of economic integration and foreign trade do not translate into better social equality and poverty reduction. This paper shows an economic and social contrast obtained from the results by countries of the Andean community of Nations （cAN） during the years 1999-2006, comprised by colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Venezuela, though the last country is not currently part of cAN. These indicators are exports, imports, relative commercial balance, gross domestic product, gross domestic product per capita, unemployment, GINI index, population, urban development index, and poverty. The paper presents a succinct conceptual framework where the relationship between foreign trade and social inequality is established, from which the description and analysis of the proposed indicators is formulated, permitting the establishing of an apparent practical connection between economic behavior and social results from the cAN countries.

Background The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2(SARS-coV-2)has had great effects on health systems worldwide,not only in relation to coronavirus disease 2019(cOVID-19)cases but also affecting patients with other *** EcIEN-2020 is an observational study conducted in a tertiary referral hospital in Navarra,*** describes the effects of cOVID-19 pandemic and the preventive measures adopted,in pediatric admissions for non-cOVID-19 *** during March-June 2020(first wave of the cOVID-19 pandemic in Spain)are described and compared with the same quarter in 2019.A sub-analysis was performed delving into *** characteristics(age,sex,past medical history),disease characteristics(symptoms,duration of symptoms,previous consultation in Primary care Health center),and admission characteristics(place and average stay)were *** A 33% reduction in the number of pediatric hospital admissions was observed,decreasing from 529 hospitaliza-tions in 2019 to 353 in 2020(Pction in patients admitted for pulmonary *** were no significant changes in average hospital-stay,percentage of intensive care unit admissions,or in admissions for other *** of patients admitted among those seen in the emergency department rose from 5.1%in 2019 to 10.9% in 2020,whereas the total number of consultations in the emergency department decreased by 68%.conclusion The pandemic and the measures adopted due to SARS-coV-2 have significantly decreased pediatric admissions for non-cOVID-19 diseases,especially due to a reduction in the hospitalization for respiratory diseases.
