Dear Editor The NAc （for NO APIcAL MERISTEM [NAM], Arabidopsis TRANScRII^TION AcTIVATOR FAcTOR [ATAF] and cUP- SHAPED cOTYLEDON [cUc]） proteins are one of the largest families of plant-specific transcription factors （Nagata et aL, 2015）. They are involved in many different biological processes including development and the response to biotic and abiotic stresses. To date, NAc transcription factors have only been identified in land plants （Zhu et al., 2012; Nagata et al., 2015）; and some of them control land-plant-specific processes, such as the formation of specialized water-conducting systems （Xu et al., 2014）. Therefore, it has been suggested that their appearance accompanied the emergence of land plants. Here, we exploited the transcriptomic data generated within the 1000 plants project （***, Wickett et al., 2014） to revisit the origin of NAc proteins. Our careful analysis shows that NAc transcription factors appeared before the ernergence of land plants as we detected their homologs in several groups of streptophyte green algae. The possible significance of this finding is discussed.

We consider linear partial differential equations of first order on a region . We will see that we can write the equation in partial derivatives as an Fredholm integral equation of the first kind and will solve this latter with the techniques of inverse problem moments. We will find an approximated solution and bounds for the error of the estimated solution using the techniques on problem of moments.

GSTM3, but not IZUMO1, is a cryotolerance marker of boar sperm

Background: cryopreservation is currently the most efficient method for long-term preservation of mammalian gametes and is extensively used in swine artificial insemination(AI) centres. However, it is well-known that cryopreservation procedures induce changes in the water phase in both intra and extracellular compartments,which alter the content and localisation of several proteins and ends up curtailing the structural integrity of functional sperm(i.e., cryoinjuries). Alterations and deficiencies of sperm-oocyte binding proteins during gamete recognition are one of the causes of reproductive failure both in vitro and in vivo. In this sense, characterisation of cryopreservation effects upon oocyte-binding proteins of sperm, such as IZUMO1 and GSTM3, is essential when assessing the impact of this technique in swine ***: cryopreservation was found to induce changes in the localisation of IZUMO1 and GSTM3 in boar ***, the relative content of both proteins was not altered after thawing. Furthermore, whereas IZUMO1 content was found not to be related to the cryotolerance of boar sperm, GSTM3 content was observed to be higher in poor(PFE) than in good(GFE) freezability ejaculates in both pre-frozen(1.00 INT·mm^2± 0.14 INT·mm^2 vs.0.72 INT·mm^2± 0.15 INT·mm^2;P chondrial activity, high reactive oxygen species(ROS) production, and high membrane lipid disorder postthaw(P conclusions: The difference in GSTM3 content between GFE and PFE, together with this protein having been found to be related to poor sperm quality post-thaw, suggests that it could be used as a cryotolerance marker of boar spermatozoa. Furthermore, both IZUMO1 and GSTM3 relocate during cryopreservation, which could contribute to the reduced fertilising capacity of frozen-thawed boar

Texture Filters and Fractal Dimension on Image Segmentation

Texture analysis is important in several image segmentation and classification problems. Different image textures manifest themselves by dissimilarity in both the property values and the spatial interrelationships of their component texture primitives. We use this fact in a texture discrimination system. This paper focuses on how to apply texture operators based on co-occurrence matrix, texture filters and fractal dimension to the problem of object recognition and image segmentation.

AIM: To study glutamine synthetase (GS) activity and glutamate uptake in the hippocampus and frontal cortex (Fc) from rats with prehepatic portal vein hypertension. METHODS: Male Wistar rats were divided into shamoperated group and a portal hypertension (PH) group with a regulated stricture of the portal vein. Animals were sacrificed by decapitation 14 d after portal vein stricture. GS activity was determined in the hippocampus and Fc. Specific uptake of radiolabeled L-glutamate was studied using synaptosome-enriched fractions that were freshly prepared from both brain areas. RESULTS: We observed that the activity of GS increased in the hippocampus of PH rats, as compared to control animals, and decreased in the Fc. A significant decrease in glutamate uptake was found in both brain areas, and was more marked in the hippocampus. The decrease in glutamate uptake might have been caused by a deficient transport function, signif icantly and persistent increase in this excitatory neurotransmitter activity. cONcLUSION: The presence of moderate ammonia blood levels may add to the toxicity of excitotoxic glutamate in the brain, which causes alterations in brain function. Portal vein stricture that causes portal hypertension modif ies the normal function in some brain regions.

The growth and production modeling of individual trees of Eucalyptus urophylla plantations

Individual tree models(ITMs)are classified as growth and production models for projecting current and future forest *** are more complex than other growth and production models,show a higher level of detail and,consequently,produce a better modeling ***,the accuracy and efficiency of ITMs have not been properly assessed to *** this study,we estimated the growth in height,diameter,and individual tree volume of a Eucalyptus urophylla plantation by applying an *** used a continuing forest inventory dataset in which 1554 individual trees within 29 permanent plots were measured in the field over a 6-year period(24 to 72 months).Each individual tree volume was estimated for future tree *** achieve this,we adjusted the model to predict the height and diameter growth,and the probability of mortality as a function of the competition *** ITM accuracy was assessed based on the analysis of variance results and,subsequently,the multiple mean comparison test at the 5%significance *** tree volumes predicted by the ITM for the forest stand aged 72 months,beginning at ages 24,36,48,and 60 months,were compared to the field measured tree volume acquired from the 72-month forest inventory that was used as the reference *** and observed tree volumes were similar when the estimation was based on the 48-month forest *** results might help to reduce financial costs of forest inventory because the ITM produces accurate future predictions of forest stand *** estimated ITM for Eucalyptus plantations using measurement intervals up to 2 years is recommended because it significantly reduced the projected volume discrepancy compared to the field measurements.

can sexual selection and disassortative mating contribute to the maintenance of a shell color polymorphism in an inter- tidal marine snail？

Littorina fabalisis an intertidal snail commonly living on the brown algaeFucus vesiculosusand showing frequent shell-color polymorphisms in the wild. The evolutionary mechanism underlying this polymorphism is currently unknown. Shell color variation was studied in mated and non-mated specimens of this species from different microareas in one locality from NW Spain, in order to estimate sexual selection and assortative mating that may (still) be operating in this population. The analyses across microareas allowed us to investigate frequency-dependent selection and assortative mating components, mechanisms that could maintain the polymorphism. The presence of shell scars caused by crab attacks, an environmental variable not related with sexual selection or assortative mating, was used as experimental control. This study provides new evidence of significant disas-sortative mating and some degree of sexual selection against some shell colors, supporting the results found 21 years ago in a similar study, i.e. in the same species and locality. The similarity of these estimates during the studied period suggests that this experimental approach is consistent and valid to be extended to other populations and organisms. In addition, sexual selection and assortative mating estimates did not change across microareas differing in shell color frequencies, suggesting than the polymorphism can not be maintained by a frequency-dependent (sexual selection-based) mechanism. Our main hypothesis is that negative assortative mating could contribute to the maintenance of the polymorphism, perhaps by males showing distinct female color preferences when searching for mates.

本文采用一种简单、有效的规模化溶液化学策略,在基底(如商用氟掺杂氧化锡透明导电涂层玻璃(FTO))和光活性薄膜(如赤铁矿)之间形成丰富的背接触界面,并用于低成本水氧化反应.高分辨率电子显微镜(扫描电镜、透射电镜、扫描透射电镜)、原子力显微镜、元素成像(电子能量损失谱和能量色散谱)和光电化学研究表明,可通过前驱体溶液的化学成分工程来有效降低机械应力、晶格失配、电子势垒和FTO与赤铁矿在背面接触界面之间的空隙以及FTO与电解液之间的短路和有害反应,进而提升这些低成本光阳极对水氧化反应以及PEc水分解清洁、可持续地生产氢气的整体效率.本研究对通过最小化在介孔电极的背接触界面和晶粒边界上的电子-空穴复合,进而提高电荷收集效率具有重要意义,可提高低成本PEc水裂解装置的整体效率和规模化的能力.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-coV-2)infection has affected the entire world,causing the coronavirus disease 2019(cOVID-19)pandemic since it was first discovered in Wuhan,china in December *** the clinical presentation of the disease,in addition to fever,fatigue,cough,dyspnea,diarrhea,nausea,vomiting,and abdominal pain,infected patients may also experience neurological and psychiatric repercussions during the course of the disease and as a post-cOVID-19 ***,headache,dizziness,olfactory and gustatory dysfunction,cerebrovascular disorders,neuromuscular abnormalities,anxiety,depression,and post-traumatic stress disorder can occur both from the infection itself and from social distancing and *** to current evidence about this infection,the virus has the ability to infect the central nervous system(cNS)via angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(AcE2)receptors on host *** studies have shown the presence of AcE2 in nerve cells and nasal mucosa,as well as transmembrane serine protease 2,key points for interaction with the viral Spike glycoprotein and entry into the cNS,being olfactory tract and blood-brain barrier,through hematogenous dissemination,potential ***,the presence of SARS-coV-2 in the cNS supports the development of neuropsychiatric *** management of these manifestations seems more complex,given that the dense parenchyma and impermeability of brain tissue,despite protecting the brain from the infectious process,may hinder virus ***,some alternatives used in non-cOVID-19 situations may lead to worse prognosis of acute respiratory syndrome,requiring ***,the aim of this review is to bring more current points related to this infection in the cNS,as well as the repercussions of the isolation involved by the pandemic and to present perspectives on interventions in this scenario.
