Placenta Previa at Souro Sanou Teaching Hospital, Burkina Faso (About 142 Cases)

Introduction: Placenta previa is an obstetric emergency that can be life-threatening for both mother and foetus. Despite the progress made in diagnosis and treatment, it continues to be feared by obstetricians because of high maternal and perinatal mortality and increased morbidity. This study aims to investigate the diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic aspects of placenta previa at the Sourô Sanou University Hospital in Bobo-Dioulasso. Method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2018. Included were 142 pregnant women admitted to the maternity ward of the Sourô Sanou University Hospital (CHUSS) and diagnosed with placenta previa during pregnancy, labor, or in the postpartum period. Result: The frequency of placenta previa was 0.89%;the average age of patients was 28.51 years with extremes of 16 and 44 years. The multigestations represented 28.17% and the pauciparous 31.69%. Patients with a uterine scar represented 15.49%. Ultrasound diagnosis was made in 38 patients (26.76%). Placenta previa was recovered in 56.34% of cases. Patients with severe anaemia were 28.87%, and 57.04% of the anaemic cases received blood transfusion. Caesarean section was performed in 93.66% of patients. Four maternal deaths (2.81%) and 30 stillbirths (27.02%) were reported. Conclusion: Placenta previa remains a fairly frequent pathology with a non-negligible lethality rate and perinatal mortality in the maternity ward of the Sourô Sanou University Hospital.

BACkGROUND The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has had a profound impact on global health,primarily characterized by severe respiratory ***,emerging evidence suggests that COVID-19 can also lead to secondary sclerosing cholangitis(SC),referred to as post-COVID-19 *** To synthesize currently reported cases to assess the current state of knowledge on post-COVID-19 *** Medical Subject Headings and Health Sciences Descriptors were used to retrieve relevant studies,which were combined using Boolean *** were conducted on electronic databases including Scopus,Web of Science,and MEDLINE(PubMed).Studies published in English,Spanish,or Portuguese were included,with no restrictions on the publication ***,the reference lists of retrieved studies were manually *** descriptive analyses were used to summarize the *** the data were extracted and assessed based on Reference Citation Analysis(https://***/).RESULTS The initial search yielded a total of 192 *** screening,85 articles were excluded due to duplication,leaving 107 articles for further *** these,63 full-length articles met the inclusion criteria and were included in the *** of the patients were male and exhibited elevated liver function tests(93.8%).Magnetic resonance imaging revealed duct thickening with contrast enhancement(47.7%),as well as beading of the intrahepatic ducts(45.7%)with peribiliary contrast enhancement on diffusion(28.7%).Liver biopsy results confirmed SC in most cases(74.4%).Sixteen patients underwent liver transplantation,with three CONCLUSION Post-COVID-19 cholangiopathy is a serious condition that is expected to become increasingly concerning in the coming years,particularly considering long COVID *** liver transplantation has been proposed as a potential treatment option,more research is necessary to establish its efficacy an

Recent research has demonstrated that critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)show significant immune system *** to that,some nutrients that influence immunomodulation have been suggested as a form of treatment against the *** review collected the information on the impact of vitamins on the prognosis of COVID-19,with the intention of facilitating treatment and prevention of the disease risk status in *** collected information was obtained using the PubMed electronic database by searching for articles that relate COVID-19 and the mechanisms/effects of the nutrients:Proteins,glucose,lipids,vitamin B12,vitamin D,calcium,iron,copper,zinc,and magnesium,including prospective,retrospective,and support *** findings reveal an optimal response related mainly to omega-3,eicosapentaenoic acid,docosahexaenoic acid,calcium,and iron that might represent benefits in the treatment of critically ill ***,nutrient supplementation should be done with caution due to the limited availability of randomized controlled studies.
