The United Arab Emirates lacks conventional water resources and relies primarily on desalination plants powered by fossil fuels to produce fresh *** desalination is a proven technolog.,cost-competitive,and sustainable option capable of integ.ating.the existing.larg.scale desalination plants to produce both freshwater and ***,Small Modular Reactors(SMRs)are promising.desig.s with advanced simplified config.rations and inherent safety *** this study,an Integ.ated Desalination SMR that produces thermal energ. compatible with the capacity of a fossil fuel-powered desalination plant in the UAE was ***,the APR-1400 reactor core was used to investig.te two 150 MWthconceptual SMR core desig.s,core A and core B,based on two-dimensional parameters,radius,and ***,the CASMO-4 lattice code was used to g.nerate homog.nized few-g.oup constants for optimized fuel assembly loading.***,to find the best core config.ration,SIMULATE-3 was used to calculate the core key physics parameters such as power distribution,reactivity coefficients,and critical boron *** addition,different reflector materials were investig.ted to compensate for the expected hig. leakag. of the small-sized SMR *** pan shape core B model(142.6132 cm diameter,100 cm heig.t,and radially reflected by Stainless Steel)was selected as the best core config.ration based on its calculated physics *** B met the desig. and safety criteria and indicated low total neutron leakag. of 11.60%and flat power distribution with 1.50 power peaking.*** to core A,it has a more neg.tive MTC value of-6.93 pcm/°F with lower *** a 2-batch scheme,the fuel is discharg.d at 42.25 g.d/MTU burnup after a long.cycle leng.h of 1.58 *** core B model offers the hig.est specific power of 36.56 kW/kg. while utilizing.the smallest heavy metal mass compared with the SMART and NuScale models.

Backg.ound: Acute pancreatitis(AP) continues to cause sig.ificant morbidity and mortality, especially when it leads to infected pancreatic necrosis(IPN). Modern treatment of IPN frequently involves prolong.d courses of antibiotics in combination with minimally invasive therapies. This study aimed to update the existing.evidence base by identifying.the pathog.ns causing.IPN and therefore aid future selection of empirical antibiotics. Methods: Clinical data, including.microbiolog. results, of consecutive patients with IPN underg.ing.minimally invasive necrosectomy at our institution between January 2009 and July 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. Results: The results of 40 patients(22 males and 18 females, median ag. 60 years) with IPN were reviewed. The etiolog. of AP was g.llstones, alcohol, dyslipidemia and unknown in 31, 2, 2 and 5 patients, respectively. The most frequently identified microbes in microbiolog. cultures were Enterococcus faecalis and faecium(22.5% and 20.0%) and Escherichia coli(20.0%). In 19 cases the cultures g.ew multiple org.nisms. The antibiotics with the least resistance among.t the microbiota were teicoplanin(5.0%), linezolid(5.6%), ertapenem(6.5%), and meropenem(7.4%). Conclusion: The carbapenem antibiotics, ertapenem and meropenem provide g.od antimicrobial cover ag.inst the common, mainly enteral, microorg.nisms causing.IPN. Culture and sensitivity results of acquired samples should be reg.larly reviewed to adjust prescribing.and monitor for emerg.nce of resistance.

Acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) is a hig.ly-lethal surg.cal emerg.ncy. Several pathophysiolog.c events (arterial obstruction, venous thrombosis and diffuse vasospasm) lead to a sudden decrease in mesenteric blood flow. Ischemia/reperfusion syndrome of the intestine is responsible for systemic abnormalities, leading.to multi-org.n failure and death. Early diag.osis is difficult because the clinical presentation is subtle, and the biolog.cal and radiolog.cal diag.ostic tools lack sensitivity and specificity. Therapeutic options vary from conservative resuscitation, medical treatment, endovascular techniques and surg.cal resection and revascularization. A hig. index of suspicion is required for diag.osis, and prompt treatment is the only hope of reducing.the mortality rate. Studies are in prog.ess to provide more accurate diag.ostic tools for early diag.osis. AMI can complicate the post-operative course of patients following.cardio-pulmonary bypass (CPB). Several factors contribute to the systemic hypo-perfusion state, which is the most frequent pathophysiolog.c event. In this particular setting. the clinical presentation of AMI can be misleading. while the laboratory and radiolog.cal diag.ostic tests often produce inconclusive results. The manag.ment strateg.es are controversial, but early treatment is critical for saving.lives. Based on the experience of our team, we consider prompt exploratory laparotomy, irrespective of the results of the diag.ostic tests, isthe only way to provide objective assessment and adequate treatment, leading.to dramatic reduction in the mortality rate.

Repositioning.of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors and g.ucag.n like peptide-1 receptor ag.nists is a breakthroug. in the field of neural reg.neration research increasing.g.ucag.n like peptide-1 bioavailability, hence its neuroprotective activities. In this article, the authors sug.est not only crossing.blood-brain barrier and neurodeg.nerative disease as off targ.t for dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors and g.ucag.n like peptide-1 receptor ag.nists, but also for ophthalmic preparations for diabetic retinopathy, which may be the latest breakthroug. in the field if prepared and used in an appropriate nano-formulation to targ.t the retinal nerves. The relation of neurodeg.nerative diseases' different mechanisms to the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors and g.ucag.n like peptide-1 receptor ag.nists should be further examined in preclinical and clinical setting.. The repositioning.of already marketed antidiabetic drug. for neurodeg.nerative diseases should save the hig. cost of the time-consuming.normal drug.development process. Drug.repositioning.is a hot topic as an alternative to molecular targ.t based drug.discovery or therapeutic switching. It is a relatively inexpensive pathway due to availability of previous pharmacolog.cal and safety data. The g.ucag.n like peptide-1 produced in brain has been linked to enhanced learning.and memory functions as a physiolog.c reg.lator in central nervous system by restoring.insulin sig.aling. Intranasal administration of all marketed g.iptins(or g.ucag.n like peptide-1 receptor ag.nists) may show enhanced blood-brain barrier crossing.and increased g.ucag.n like peptide-1 levels in the brain after direct crossing.of the drug.for the olfactory reg.on, targ.ting.the cerebrospinal fluid. Increasing.efficiency of atriums in hot,arid zones

This research evaluated the efficiency of Atrium in hot,arid reg.ons and investig.ted the parameters influencing.the total energ. consumption of an existing.shopping.mall in Dubai,UAE using.the IES-VE energ. modeling.*** parameters tested included:Roof profile,Roof ventilation,Number of floors,g.azing.s Lig.t to Solar g.in ratio(LSg.and the Thermal insulation of the building.*** impact of using.lig.t sensors was also *** lig.t sensors and the roof’s thermal insulation resulted in the hig.est reduction of the atrium’s energ.,8.5%and 7.5%,*** the number of floors reduced the energ. consumption by 5%per unit *** roof profile,external wall’s thermal insulation and heig.t of the atrium resulted in similar energ. reductions of 3.5%*** external g.azing.s LSg.reduced the energ. consumption by 3.25%while the roof ventilation resulted in a reduction of 1.3%.The internal g.azing.s LSg.did not affect the atrium’s total energ. *** optimal combination of the parameters studies resulted in an energ. reduction of about 20%.Thus,this paper presents the optimal desig. config.ration to reduce the energ. consumption of an atrium located in a hot and arid climate.

This study presents a benchmark evaluation of the new ENDF/B-VIII.0 nuclear data library for the Org.nization for Economic Co-operation and Development/Nuclear Energ. Ag.ncy Medium 1000 MWth sodium-cooled fast reactor(SFR).The study presented herein covers both SFR core types,i.e.,metallic fueled(MET-1000)and oxide fueled(MOX-1000),simulated using.the continuous-energ. Monte Carlo Serpent2 *** neutronics performances of the ENDF/B-VIII.0-based simulations were compared mainly to two libraries:ENDF/B-VII.1 and *** comparison includes several neutronics parameters evaluated for the beg.nning.and end of the cycle *** parameters include the effective multiplication factor keff,total effective delayed neutron fraction beff,sodium void reactivity(DqNa),Doppler constant(DqDoppler),and control rod worth(DqCR).In addition,a sensitivity study was used to reveal the major isotope/reaction pairs contributing.to the discrepancy observed in the performance of the three libraries using.33 and 44-energ.-g.oup structures.
