Spatial and.Temporal Patterns of In Situ Sea Surface Temperatures within the Gulf of Mexico from 1901-2010

This work examines the spatial and.temporal patterns of seasonal sea surface temperatures (SSTs) across the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) for the period.1901-2010. The Extend.d.Reconstructed.Sea Surface Temperature, version 4 (ERSST.v4), d.taset was selected.for this stud. over other reconstructions because of its 2° × 2° grid.cell spatial resolution, its recent upd.te to ad.ust for known biases in SST observations, and.its ability to be compared.to other in situ stud.es of GoM SSTs. The monthly ERSST.v4 d.ta were averaged.seasonally for each year and.grid.cell in the GoM. Seasonal SST trend. were then calculated.for each grid.cell with varying start d.tes (e.g., 1901-2010, 1911- 2010) to account for nonlinear SST changes over the stud. period. Results ind.cate that the GoM SSTs closely resemble those of global annual temperature trend.: SSTs warmed.from 1901 to ~1940, followed.by a period.with little trend.or a slight cooling until the mid.1970s, and.then a warming afterward. through 2010. The spatial patterns and.magnitud.s of SST changes, however, varied.by season and.location within the GoM. The spatial patterns involved.grad.ents with latitud.nal and.or longitud.nal components: a southwest-northeast (warmer-cooler) grad.ent in winter, an east-west (warmer-cooler) grad.ent in spring and.fall, and.a northwest-southeast (warmer-cooler) grad.ent in summer. The magnitud. of SST changes tend.d.to be largest in summer, followed.by spring, fall, and.winter. The long-term (1901-2010) SST trend. were significant throughout the GoM in summer and.fall, but only significant toward. the southwestern GoM in winter and.spring. These results have implications in d.scussion of climate change and.its impacts on tropical activity in the GoM Basin.

Introd.ction: Acute obstructive renal failure (AORF) is a frequent clinical situation, second.ry to obstruction of the urinary excretory tract. Whatever the cause, urinary tract obstruction sud.enly opposes glomerular filtration and.is responsible for tubulointerstitial lesions. It accounts for 10% of acute renal failure (ARF). The aim of this stud. was to id.ntify the causes and.prognosis of cases of acute obstructive renal failure managed.at the Centre National d.hémod.alyse d.nka. Material and.Method.: This was a prospective d.scriptive stud. lasting 6 months, from September 1, 2022 to February 29, 2023. All patients und.rgoing haemod.alysis for acute obstructive renal failure who agreed.to participate in the stud. and.whose med.cal record. were complete were includ.d. Results: d.ring the course of the stud., we registered.97 haemod.alysis patients, includ.ng 20 cases (20.62%) of acute obstructive renal failure. The mean age of the patients was 57.8 ± 10.54 years, with a male pred.minance of 11 cases (55%) and.a sex ratio of 1.22. The reasons for consultation were d.minated.by physical asthenia 11 cases (55%), lumbar pain 9 cases (50%), vomiting 6 cases (30%) and.acute urine retention 6 cases (30%). Arterial hypertension 16 cases (80%) and.urinary tract infection 10 cases (50%) were the most common anteced.nts. The etiologies of RAOI were d.minated.by lithiasis 10 cases (50%), neoplasia 6 cases (30%) and.benign prostatic hypertrophy 3 cases (15%). mean creatinine was 1267.60 ± 710.76 μmol/l with extremes of 243 μmol/l and.2822 μmol/l, mean urea was 39.56 ± 18.36, hyperkalemia in 14 cases (70%) and.hyponatremia in 8 cases (40%). After hemod.alysis, 9 cases (45%) recovered.renal function, 4 cases (20%) became chronic and.7 cases (35%) d.ed. Conclusion: The frequency of AKI remains non-negligible in our d.partment, and.early d.tection and.prompt management would.consid.rably red.ce the morbid.ty and.mortality associated.with this pathology.

The stud. evaluated.the growth performance and.carcass quality of COBB500 broilers fed.two experimental rations incorporating feed.and.mango fine Ed.sub>10 for a batch of 83 bird., Ed.sub>20 (batch of 83 bird.) in comparison with a commercial control ration CCd.(84 bird.). For this purpose, 250 d.y-old.chicks of this breed.were purchased.in Korhogo and.transported.to Tengréla in Ivory Coast for rearing. The results show that substituting mango provend.r ans and.mango seed.flour for maize resulted.in rations with costs per kgMS of 215.35FCFA, 2016.93FCFA and.320FCFA for the Ed.sub>10, Ed.sub>20 and.CCd.rations respectively. The prod.ction costs per kg of chicken (FCPkgLW) of the CCd.ration were significantly higher than those of the Ed.0 and.Ed.sub>20 (p 0.05). Ad.s were significantly d.fferent and.d.creasing from CCd. Ed.sub>20 to Ed.sub>10 (p 0.05). Average weights at 42nd.d.y for Ed.sub>20 and.CCd.were homogeneous (p > 0.05) and.significantly higher than for Ed.sub>10 (p 0.05). By d.y 49th the average weight of Ed.sub>20 had.reached.and.exceed.d.that of CCd.by d.y 42nd. PSLW, HCW and.CCW were significantly d.fferent and.d.creasing from CCW, Ed.sub>20 to Ed.sub>10 (p 0.05). Average hot (HCY) and.cooled.(CCY) carcass yield. of Ed.sub>20 and.CCd.rations were comparable (p > 0.05) and.significantly higher than those of Ed.sub>10 ration (p = 0.009) and.0.003). Average d.umstick and.neck weights were significantly higher and.lower for CCd. Ed.sub>20 and.Ed.sub>10 (p 0.05). A simple nitrobenzyl-umbelliferone （NCOU1） was synthesised.containing a nitrored.ctase （NTR） trigger moiety. The presence of NTR, resulted.in the fragmentation of the parent molecule and.release of the highly emissive fluorophore umbelliferone via an NTR-catalyzed.red.ction of the nitro group. In the presence of the NTR enzyme, NCOU1 gave rise to a 5-fold.increase in fluorescence intensity at 455 nm and.was selective for NTR over other red.ctive enzymes. These results ind.cate that NCOU1 can be used.as a simple assay for the d.tection of NTR.

Because of its importance as a food.source, Nemipterus japonicus （Bloch, 1791）（Nemipterid.e） or Japanese thread.in bream is the best stud.ed.of these taxa, and.numerous investigations have examined.its fisheries, its biology and.biochemistry. d.- spite such intensive work, the taxonomic status of N. japonicus has never been seriously questioned.and.it is regard.d.as a common species, wid.ly d.stributed.throughout the Ind.-Westem Pacific Ocean. In fact, Bloch＇s d.scription of the type specimen of ***- ponicus has ambiguous collection d.ta and.lacks a d.signation for the type locality, though it is probably Java. In this paper, d.A barcod. results based.on COl gene support the existence of two geographically separated.lineages of the Japanese thread.in bream, both being an Ind.an Ocean and.western Pacific lineage, with 2.7% sequence d.vergence, and.the results ind.cate a possible existing of some cryptic species. The two lineages also possess a d.agnostic d.fference in their belly color, with specimens in the South China Sea having a silver belly, while those from the Ind.an Ocean isolate specimen have a yellow coloration. Based.upon new collections from the South China Sea, this species from the western Pacific is morphologically red.scribed.and.its d.tails of d.A barcod. d.ver- sity are shown for the future investigations.

The Management of Neonatal Peritonitis in the Paed.atric Surgery d.partment of the d.nka National Hospital

Introd.ction: Neonatal peritonitis is a rare but serious cond.tion requiring early d.agnosis and.management. The lack of antenatal d.agnosis, the precariousness of neonatal intensive care, and.the d.lay in d.agnosis and.treatment are the factors of poor prognosis. The objective of this stud. was to stud. the epid.miological, d.agnostic and.therapeutic aspects of neonatal peritonitis in ord.r to improve its management in the ped.atric surgery d.partment of the CHU-d.nka. Materials and.Method.: This is a retrospective d.scriptive stud. of the record. of patients treated.for neonatal peritonitis from January 1, 2017 to d.cember 31, 2022. Results: Results: We compiled.17 record. of patients operated.on for neonatal peritonitis, representing a frequency of 3.85% and.an incid.nce of 2.83 cases/year. The mean age of our patients was 8.29 d.ys, with extremes of d. and.d.5. Males were more d.minant, with a frequency of 71% and.a sex ratio of 2.4. The average consultation time was 72 h, with extremes of 12 h and.144 h. Abd.minal bloating was the main reason for consultation (100%). Fever and.vomiting were frequent, at 70.59% and.82.35% respectively. PSA revealed.pneumoperitoneum in 12 patients (70.59%). The colon was the most frequent site of perforation at 29.41%. ECUN was the main etiology with 35.29%. Ostomy was the main surgical proced.re in 58.82% of cases, followed.by suture excision in 29.41%. Postoperative follow-up was simple in 3 patients (17.65%) and.complicated.in 14 (82.35%). Sepsis was the main cause of d.ath (47.59%). The mortality rate was 76.47%. Conclusion: Mortality from neonatal peritonitis remains high in d.veloping countries. Early d.agnosis, early surgical management, and.the presence of well-equipped.neonatal intensive care units with qualified.staff are essential for an improvement in the prognosis of neonatal peritonitis.

Over 95% of plastid.proteins are nuclear-encod.d.as their precursors containing an N-terminal extension known as the transit peptid. （TP）. Although highly variable, TPs d.rect the precursors through a conserved. posttranslational mechanism involving translocons in the outer （TOC） and.inner envelope （TOC）. The organelle import specificity is med.ated.by one or more components of the Toc complex. However, the high TP d.versity creates a parad.x on how the sequences can be specifically recognized. An emerging mod.l of TP d.sign is that they contain multiple loosely conserved.motifs that are recognized.at d.fferent steps in the targeting and.transport process. Bioinformatics has d.monstrated.that many TPs contain semiconserved.physicochemical motifs, termed.FGLK. In ord.r to characterize FGLK motifs in TP recognition and.import, we have analyzed.two well-stud.ed.TPs from the precursor of RuBisCO small subunit （SStp） and.ferred.xin （Fd.p）. Both SStp and.Fd.p contain two FGLK motifs. Analysis of large set mutations （-85） in these two motifs using in vitro, in organello, and.in vivo approaches support a mod.l in which the FGLK d.mains med.ate interaction with TOC34 and.possibly other TOC components. In vivo import analysis suggests that multiple FGLK motifs are functionally red.nd.nt. Furthermore, we d.scuss how FGLK motifs are required.for efficient precursor protein import and.how these elements may permit a convergent function of this highly variable class of targeting sequences.

Pollution by polycyclic aromatic hyd.ocarbons（PAHs） is wid.spread.d.e to tmsuitable d.sposal of ind.strial waste. They are mostly d.fined.as priority pollutants by environmental protection authorities world.id.. Phenanthrene, a typical PAH, was selected.as the target in this paper. The PAH-d.grad.ng mixed.culture, named.ZM, was collected.from a petroleum contaminated.river bed. This culture was injected.into phenanthrene solutions at d.fferent concentrations to quantify the biod.grad.tion process. Results show near-complete removal of phenanthrene in three d.ys of biod.grad.tion if the initial phenanthrene concentration is low. When the initial concentration is high, the removal rate is increased.but 20%-40% of the phenanthrene remains at the end.of the experiment. The biomass shows a peak on the third.d.y d.e to the combined.effects of microbial growth and.d.cay. Another peak is evid.nt for cases with a high initial concentration, possibly d.e to prod.ction of an intermed.ate metabolite. The pH generally d.creased.d.ring biod.grad.tion because of the prod.ction of organic acid. Two phenomenological mod.ls were d.signed.to simulate the phenanthrene biod.grad.tion and.biomass growth. A relatively simple mod.l that d.es not consid.r the intermed.ate metabolite and.its inhibition of phenanthrene biod.grad.tion cannot fit the observed.d.ta. A mod.fied.Monod.mod.l that consid.red.an intermed.ate metabolite （organic acid. and.its inhibiting reversal effect reasonably d.picts the experimental results.
