Performance of a three-phase shunt active power filter(SAPF)relies on the capability of the controller to track the reference ***,designing an accurate current controller is crucial to guarantee satisfactory SAPF *** paper presents a model predictive current controller(MPCC)for a low-cost,four-switch,shunt active power filter for power quality improvement.A four-switch,B4,converter topology is adopted as an SAPF,hence offering a simple,robust,and low-cost *** addition,to further reduce overall cost,only two interfacing filter inductors,instead of three,are used to eliminate switching current *** proposed SAPF model MPCC is detailed for implementation,where simulation and experimental results validate effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm showing a 20%improvement in total harmonic distortion compared with a conventional hysteresis band current controller.

β-defensins are components of host defense, with antimicrobial and pleiotropic immuno-modulatory properties. Research over the last 15 years has demonstrated abundant expression of a variety of β-defensins in the postnatal epididymis of different species. A gradient of region- and cell-specific expression of these proteins is observed in the epithelium of the postnatal epididymis. Their secretion into the luminal fluid and binding to spermatozoa as they travel along the epididymis has suggested their involvement in reproduction-specific tasks. Therefore, continuous attention has been given to various β-defensins for their role in sperm function and fertility. Although β-defensins are largely dependent on androgens, the underlying mechanisms regulating their expression and function in the epididymis are not well understood. Recent investigation has pointed out to a new and interesting scenario where β-defensins emerge with a different expression pattern in the wolffian duct, the embryonic precursor of the epididymis, as opposed to the adult epididymis, thereby redefining the concept concerning the multifunctional roles of β-defensins in the developing epididymis. In this review, we summarize some current views of β-defensins in the epididymis highlighting our most recent data and speculations on their role in the developing epididymis during the prenatal-to-postnatal transition, bringing attention to the many unanswered questions in this research area that may contribute to a better understanding of epididymal biology and male fertility.

Purpose Elite endurance runners frequently utilise live high-train high(LHTH)altitude training to improve endurance per-formance at sea level(SL).Individual variability in response to the hypoxic exposure have resulted in contradictory *** the present case study,changes in total haemoglobin mass(tHbmass)and physiological capacity,in response to 4-weeks of LHTH were *** tested if a hypoxic sensitivity test(HST)could predict altitude-induced adaptations to *** Fifteen elite athletes were selected to complete 4-weeks of LHTH(~2400 m).Athletes visited the laboratory for preliminary testing(PRE),to determine lactate threshold(LT),lactate turn point(LTP),maximal oxygen uptake VO_(2max)and *** LHTH,athletes completed daily physiological measures[arterial oxygen saturation(SpO2)and body mass]and subjective wellbeing *** was repeated,for those who completed the full camp,post-LHTH(POST).Additionally,athletes completed the HST prior to *** A difference(Pwas found from PRE to POST in average tHbmass(1.8%±3.4%),VO_(2max)(2.7%±3.4%),LT(6.1%±4.6%)and LTP(5.4%±3.8%),after 4-weeks *** revealed a decrease in oxygen saturation at rest(ΔSp_(r))and higher hypoxic ventilatory response at rest(HVRr)predicted individual changes *** hypoxic cardiac response at rest(HCRr)and higher HVRr predicted individual changes VO_(2max).Conclusion Four weeks of LHTH at~2400 m increased tHbmass and enhanced physiological capacity in elite endurance *** was no observed relationship between these changes and baseline characteristics,pre-LHTH serum ferritin levels,or reported incidents of musculoskeletal injury or *** HST did however,estimate changes in tHbmass and VO_(2max).HST prior to LHTH could allow coaches and practitioners to better inform the acclimatisation strategies and train-ing load application of endurance runners at altitude.

Geographic simulation models can be used to explore and better understand the geographical environment. Recent advances in geographic and socio-environmental research have led to a dramatic increase in the number of models used for this purpose. Some model repositories provide opportunities for users to explore and apply models,but few provide a general evaluation method for assessing the applicability and recognition of models. In this study,an academic impact evaluation method for models is proposed. Five indices are designed based on their pertinence. The analytical hierarchy process is used to calculate the index weights,and the academic impacts of models are quantified with the weighted sum method. The time range is controlled to evaluate the life-term and annual academic impacts of the models. Some models that met the evaluation criteria from different domains are then evaluated. The results show that the academic impact of a model can be quantified with the proposed method,and the major research areas that models impact are identified.
