Child Victims of Road Traffic Accidents: Epidemiological and Clinical Aspects in the Medical and Surgical Emergency Department of the Donka National Hospital

Introduction: Children involved in road accidents most often suffer head or limb injuries. The severity of these injuries varies according to the age of the child, the type of road user and whether or not protective devices are used. The aim of this study was to carry out a census of admissions and to identify the epidemiological and clinical profile of children involved in road traffic accidents at Donka National Hospital. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study of children involved in traffic accidents over a 3-month period from September 1 to November 30, 2021. All children admitted to the emergency department for a traffic accident were included in the study. Results: During the study period, 435/530 children (82.1%) were victims of road accidents. Boys accounted for 54.94% of cases, compared with 45.06% for girls. The age group most affected was 12-17 years old (48.97%). October had the highest accident rate (36.4%). Pedestrians are most affected (52.87%). Bicycles and mopeds were involved in 59.77% of accidents. Head injury was the most frequent pathology (33.33%). The study showed that 12.64% of victims were referred to intensive care, pediatric surgery, etc. we recorded 8 cases of death (1.84%). Conclusion: This study highlighted the characteristics, incidence and risk factors for accidents in children admitted to emergency departments. Accident prevention, particularly serious accidents in children, requires more precise knowledge of the factors and circumstances leading to their occurrence.

Robustness Assessment and Adaptive fDI for Car Engine

A new on-line fault detection and isolation （fDI） scheme proposed for engines using an adaptive neural network classifier is evaluated for a wide range of operational modes to check the robustness of the scheme in this paper. The neural classifier is adaptive to cope with the significant parameter uncertainty, disturbances, and environment changes. The developed scheme is capable of diagnosing faults in on-line mode and the fDI for the closed-loop system with can be directly implemented in an on-board crankshaft speed feedback is investigated by diagnosis system （hardware）. The robustness of testing it for a wide range of operational modes including robustness against fixed and sinusoidal throttle angle inputs, change in load, change in an engine parameter, and all these changes occurring at the same time. The evaluations are performed using a mean value engine model （MVEM）, which is a widely used benchmark model for engine control system and fDI system design. The simulation results confirm the robustness of the proposed method for various uncertainties and disturbances.

The development of the wolffian/epididymal duct is crucial for proper function and, therefore, male fertility. The development of the epididymis is complex; the initial stages form as a transient embryonic kidney; then the mesonephros is formed, which in turn undergoes extensive morphogenesis under the influence of androgens and growth factors. Thus, understanding of its full development requires a wide and multidisciplinary view. This review focuses on mouse models that display abnormalities of the wolffian duct and mesonephric development, the importance of these mouse models toward understanding male reproductive tract development, and how these models contribute to our understanding of clinical abnormalities in humans such as congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract （CAKUT）.

The application of decomposable organic residues such as manure and crop litter is generally beneficial to *** is an emerging interest in applying biochar,a carbonaceous product of pyrolysis,to temperate agricultural *** slow decomposition rate of biochar,which also contains ash and combustion byproducts,could be detrimental to *** objective of this study was to describe the earthworm populations in biochar-amended soils on a dairy farm in the *** River watershed,Quebec,*** were collected from replicated field plots under cereal *** A received three wood-based biochar types at two application rates(5 and 10 t ha^(-1) biochar)plus an unamended control,while Site B received wood-based biochar(7.5 t ha^(-1) biochar),dairy cattle slurry(10 t ha^(-1) manure),or a combination of the biochar and manure rates plus an unamended *** were collected by hand sorting and formaldehyde expulsion from soil *** species,Aporrectodea turgida,Aporrectodea tuberculata,and Lumbricus rubellus,were found at the sites,and Aporrectodea was the dominant *** sources,rates,and application with dairy slurry did not affect the earthworm population,which had 52-218 individuals m^(-2) in 2010 and 4-96 individuals m^(-2) in *** seasonal variation in earthworm population may be due to flooding in the spring of 2011,which apparently interfered with earthworm *** similarity in earthworm abundance and biomass in plots with and without wood-based biochar leads to the conclusion that earthworm populations are stable in biochar-amended soils in this cold,humid temperate region.

Spinal Mechanisms of Itch Transmission

Peripheral itch stimuli are transmitted by sensory neurons to the spinal cord dorsal horn, which then transmits the information to the brain. The molecular and cellular mechanisms within the dorsal horn for itch transmission have only been investigated and identified during the past ten years. This review covers the progress that has been made in identifying the peptide families in sensory neurons and the receptor families in dorsal horn neurons as putative itch transmitters, with a focus on gastrin-releasing peptide （GRP）--GRP receptor signaling. Also discussed are the signaling mechanisms, including opioids, by which various types of itch are transmitted and modulated, as well as the many conflicting results arising from recent studies.

Environmental landscape determinants of maximum forest canopy height of boreal forests

Aims Canopy height is a key driver of forest biodiversity and carbon *** estimates of canopy height are needed for assess-ing mechanisms relating to ecological patterns and processes of tree height *** global scales forest canopy height patterns are largely controlled by climate,while local variation at fine scales is due to differences in disturbance history and local patterns in envir-onmental *** relative effect of local environmental driv-ers on canopy height is poorly understood partly due to gaps in data on canopy height and methods for examining limiting ***,we used airborne laser scanning(ALS)data on vegetation structure of boreal forests to examine the effects of environmental factors on potential maximum forest canopy *** Relationships between maximum canopy height from ALS meas-ures and environmental variables were examined to assess factors limiting tree ***,we used quantile regression at the 0.90 quantile to relate maximum canopy height with environmental characteristics of climate(*** annual temperature[MAT]and mean annual precipitation),terrain(***)and depth-to-water(DTw)across a 33000 km2 multiple use boreal forest landscape in northeast Alberta,*** findings Maximum canopy height was positively associated with MAT,ter-rain slope and terrain-derived DTw,collectively explaining 33.2%of the variation in *** strongest explanatory variable was DTw explaining 26%of canopy height variation with peatland forests having naturally shorter maximum canopy heights,but also more sites currently at their maximum potential *** con-trast,the most productive forests(*** to xeric upland forests)had the fewest sites at their potential maximum height,illustrating the effects of long-term forest management,wildfires and general anthropogenic footprints on reducing the extent and abundance of older,taller forest habitat in Alberta’s boreal forest.

New insights into the in-process densification mechanism of cold spray Al coatings: Low deposition efficiency induced densification

This work details new insights into the in-process densification mechanism of cold spray Al coatings. The results show a trend counter to common observations: coating plastic deformation levels and coating density decreases with an increase in particle impact velocity. A lower particle impact velocity and the consequent lower deposition efficiency(DE) results in greater tamping energy per unit volume of deposit,which is the primary reason for the observed trend. This is the first time that DE has been shown to have a non-linear impact on the density of a cold spray coating, with particle in-process tamping being the primary mechanism for coating densification.

Inspired by recent breakthroughs with topological quantum materials,which pave the way to novel,high-efficiency,low-energy magnetoelectric devices[1-3]and fault-tolerant quantum information processing[4],inter alia,topological quantum walks have emerged as an exciting topic in its own right,especially due to the theoretical and experimental simplifications this approach offers[5-14].Motivated by impressive progress in topological quantum walks,we provide a perspective on theoretical studies and experimental investigations of topological quantum walks focusing on current explorations of topological properties arising for single-walker quantum walks.

Despite its role in disease there is still no definitive method to assess oesophago-gastric junction competence （OGJ）. Traditionally the OGJ has been assessed using manometry with lower oesophageal sphincter pressure as the indicator. More recently this has been shown not to be a very reliable marker of sphincter function and competence against reflux. Disorders such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and to a lesser extend achalasia still effects a significant number of patients. This review looks at using a new technique known as impedance planimetry to profile the geometry and pressure in the OGJ during distension of a bag. The data gathered can be reconstructed into a dynamic representation of OGJ action. This has been shown to provide a useful representation of the OGJ and to show changes to the competence of the OGJ in terms of compliance and distensibility as a result of endoluminal therapy.
