Multifractal analysis is carried out for the interactions of 4.5 A and 14.5 A GeV/c 28Si beams with emulsion, CNO and AgBr targets using the standard method of Gq moments. The Rényi dimensions Dq are evaluated and the results on self-similar multifractal spectra are presented. The variation of Dq with q is looked into and the findings reveal that the behaviour is in consistency with the multifractal characteristic of the multiplicity distributions in the various interactions studied. The self-similar multifractal spectra are found to be concave downwards with maximum at αq = 0. Further, Lévy stability analysis is carried out for these interactions. The Lévy stability index μ extracted from multifractal spectrum is found to lie in the range [0, 2] in agreement with the Lévy stability theory.

Water has always been an important and life-sustaining drink to humans and is essential to the survival of all known organisms. Over large parts of the world, humans have inadequate access to drinking water and use water contaminated with disease vectors, pathogens or unacceptable levels of toxins or suspended solids. Drinking such water or using it in food preparation leads to widespread, acute and chronic illnesses and is a major cause of death and misery in many countries. The UN estimates that over 2.0 billion people have limited access to safe water and nearly 800 million people lack even the most basic supply of clean water. The main issue is the affordability of water purifying systems. Many people rely on boiling water or bottled water, which can be expensive. Therefore, technologies that are cost effective, sustainable, ease of operation/maintenance and the treatment processes with locally available materials are required. In this article, some unique low-cost sustainable technologies available/or in-use, i.e. natural filtration, riverbank filtration, biosand filtration, membrane filtration, solar water disinfection technique, biologically degradable materials such as moringa powder, scallop powder treatment, and biosand pitcher treatments have been discussed.

AIM: To define optimum management of the pyogenic liver abscess and assess new trends in treatment. METHODS: One hundred and sixty nine patients with pyogenic liver abscess managed at Sher-i-Kashmir In- stitute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar, Kashmir (India) from July 2001 to August 2006 were studied to evaluate and define the optimum treatment. RESULTS: Mortality in the surgically treated group of patients was 9.4% (12/119), while those treated non-surgically had a fatality rate of 16.66% (7/42). Multiple liver abscesses treated surgically had a surprisingly low mortality of 30%. The biliary tract (64.97%) was the most common cause of liver abscess. Multiple abscesses, mixed organisms and abscess complications are all associated with a significantly increased mortality. However, the lethality of the primary disease process was the most important factor in determining ***: Transperitoneal surgical drainage and antibiotics are the mainstay of treatment. Percutaneous drainage is recommended for high risk patients only.

Measurement of the Effective Dose Radiation at Radiology Departments of Some Hospitals in Duhok Governorate

During operating of the X-ray machines, if the protection of X-ray rooms is insufficient, not only the patient but also clinical staffs as well as public are exposed to high X-ray dosage and they are affected from X-ray related to the dose level. In the present survey, by testing the radiological leakage and scatter from X-rays machines in radiology departments of 7 randomly selected hospitals in Duhok governorate, the effects dose of X-ray to the both control panel area and the patients waiting or visiting area who are located near the radiography room, were measured. The dose was recorded for a range of peak kilovoltage (kVp) and mAs values to find efficiency of shielding materials (barriers) of radiography rooms for different X-rays level. The measurements were performed at one meter above the ground surface which was the same height of X-rays tube by using Gamma Scout dosimeter. From the measurement results, it was seen that the most hospitals barriers (doors and walls) were not appropriate to the standards except 2 hospitals. The maximum effective doses were measured in uncontrolled area of Khazer hospital which was 82.48 ± 0.73 mSv·yr-1 that was much more than the reference dose limits and in controlled area of Haval Banda Zaroka hospital which was 12.98 ± 0.16 mSv·yr-1. In result, the knowledge about the radiation dose affecting the radiologists and public in the selected hospitals was obtained, and by informing the radiologists and the hospitals managements, the necessary regulations would be planned.

AIM:To determine the long-term results of choledochodudenostomy in patients with benign billiary ***:This prospective study was conducted at Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Srinagar Kashmir,India over a period of 10 years from January 1997 to December *** total number of patients who underwent choledochoduodenostomy during this period was *** the basis of etiology of biliary tract obstruction,patients were divided into a calculus group,an oriental cholangiohepatitis group,a benign biliary stricture group and *** were followed for a variable period of 13 mo to 15 ***:Choledochoduodenostomy(CDD) with duodenotomy was performend in four *** with removal of T-tube,CDD with left hepatic lobectomy and CDD with removal of intra biliary ruptured hydatid was performed in three patients *** the remaining patients only CDD was *** post operative complications were seen in 63(23%) patients,while long-term complications were seen in 28(11%) patients,which were statistically *** patients died during hospitalization while four patients died in the late post-operative ***:Our conclusion is that CDD is safe and produces good long term results when a permanent biliary drainage procedure is required.

This paper addresses a comprehensive design of RCC T-beam Bridge based on AASHTO design standards. The bridge is designed and proposed to be constructed over an irrigation canal (Zahirshahi canal) of Kandahar province, Afghanistan that has more than 30 bridges over it. Yet they are not enough, and the demand for construction of new bridges is gradually arising because of the vast urbanization in the surrounding of the canal. Most of the bridges on this canal are Reinforced Concrete Slab (RCS) bridges;?these type bridges are limited by capacity and are generally found only in smaller spans. Since they can only span short distances and are often constructed as multiple-span?bridges with vertical supports between the abutments to allow a longer length.?All constructed slab bridges over Zahirshahi canal are four-span bridges. Constructing multi-span bridges on the canal decreases waterway due to the existence of many piers and footings that could increase the water level during the peak flow, even, sometimes can cause over flow. Taking into consideration these deficiencies of the present (RCS) bridges, two-span RCC T-beam Bridge is one of the best alternatives to be constructed over the canal. In addition, canal cross-sectional dimensions are almost constant along its length, though the construction of two-span RCC T-beam bridge is applicable at any point of the canal. The design is selected based on exclusive survey of the area during all seasons including the peak flowing of the canal.

BACKGROUND Administrative data show that acute heart failure(HF)patients are older than those enrolled in clinical registries and frequently admitted to non-cardiological settings of *** purpose of this study was to describe clinical characteristics of old patients hospitalised for acute HF in Cardiology,Internal Medicine or Geriatrics *** Data came from ATHENA(AcuTe Heart failurE in advaNced Age)registry which included elderly patients(≥65 years)admitted to the above mentioned settings of care from December 1,2014 to December 1,*** We enrolled 396 patients,15.4%assigned to Cardiology,69.7%to Internal Medicine,and 14.9%to a Geriatrics *** age was 83.5±7.6 years(51.8%of patients≥85 years)and was higher in patients admitted to Geriatrics(P<0.001);more than half were *** treatments did not differ significantly among settings of care(in a context of a low prescription rate of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system inhibitors)whereas significant differences were observed in comorbidity patterns and management guidelines recommendation adherence for decongestion evaluation with comparison of weight and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels on admission and at discharge(both P=0.035 and P<0.001),echocardiographic evaluation(P<0.001)and follow-up visits planning(P<0.001),all higher in *** in-hospital length of stay was 9±5.9 days,significantly higher in Geriatrics(13.7±6.5 days)and Cardiology(9.9±6.7 days)compared to Internal Medicine(8±5.2 days),P<***-hospital mortality was 9.3%,resulting higher in Geriatrics(18.6%)and Cardiology(16.4%)than Internal Medicine(5.8%),P=*** In elderly patients hospitalised for acute HF,clinical characteristics and management differ significantly according to the setting of admission.
