synthetic fibers made from nylon or polypropylene have gained application when loose and woven into geo textile form although no information on the matrix’s mechanical performance is obtained so that more understanding of their structural contribution to resist cracking can be determined. This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation to determine the performance characteristics of concrete reinforced with a polypropylene structural fiber. In this investigation “Fiber mesh” brand of fibers manufactured by sL Concrete system, Tennessee, UsA and marketed by M/s Millennium Building system, Inc., Ban-galore, India are used. The lengths of the fibers used were 24 mm. Fiber dosages used were 0.9, 1.8, 2.7 kg/m3. A total of three mixtures, one for each fiber dosage were made. A standard slump cone test was conducted on the fresh concrete mix with and without fibers to determine the workability of the mix. The test program included the evaluation of hardened concrete properties such as compressive, split tensile, modulus of rupture and flexural strengths. The increase in compressive strength is about 36.25%, 26.20%, and 23.75% respectively that of plain concrete. This increase in strength was directly proportional to amount of fibers present in the mix. The increase in flexural strength for Mixes I^III is about 21%, 16.6%, and 23% respectively that of plain concrete specimens. An experimental investigation was also made to study the behaviors of reinforced fibers concrete beams (with longitudinal reinforcements) under two-point loading. The deflection and crack patterns were also studied. The improvements in strength and ductility characteristics were discussed.

Lattice thermal conductivity(LTC)of cadmium arsenide(Cd_(3)As_(2))is studied over a wide temperature range(1–400 K)by employing the Callaway *** acoustic phonons are considered to be the major carriers of heat and to be scattered by the sample boundaries,disorder,impurities,and other phonons via both Umklapp and normal phonon *** calculations of LTC of Cd_(3)As_(2)bring out the relative importance of the scattering *** systematic analysis of recent experimental data on thermal conductivity(TC)of Cd_(3)As_(2)samples of different groups,presented in terms of LTC,κL,using a nonlinear regression method,reveals good fits to the TC data of the samples considered for Tsuggests a value of 0.2 for the Gruneisen *** is,however,found that for T>100 K the inclusion of the electronic component of TC,κe,incorporating contributions from relevant electron scattering mechanisms,is needed to obtain good agreement with the TC data over the wide temperature *** detailed investigations of TC of Cd_(3)As_(2)are required to better understand its suitability in thermoelectric and thermal management devices.

MMP-8 analysis in gingival crevicular fluid using ELIsA and novel chair-side test

AIM: To validate accuracy of a novel chair-side test for matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-8 as compared to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELIsA) in Periodontal health and ***: Gingival crevicular fluid was collected from 150 subjects, Group 1(healthy)- 50 subjects, Group 2(gingivitis)- 50 subjects and Group 3(chronic periodontitis)- 50 subjects. A chair-side test strip was indigenously prepared using polyclonal antibodies(principle of immunochromatography) to detect the MMP-8 levels. The detection accuracy(sensitivity and specificity) of the MMP-8 levels by chair-side test kit were compared with ELIsA at baseline and 3 mo after scaling and root planing among the study ***: The novel chair side test detected MMP-8 levels in accordance with ELIsA which at baseline were higher in Group 2 and Group 3 as compared to controls(P se enzyme levels decreased after therapy(P side test could differentiate healthy, gingivitis and periodontitis. The detection accuracy of the chair-side test strip were on par with ELIsA(sensitivity 92.9% and specificity of 100%) which were statistically significant(P sire to arouse interest about periodontal health and maintenance in the Indian population provided a strong rationale for us to develop our chair-side test strips to suit our economy. Moreover, this was the first ever effort to develop and validate a chair-side test strip to detect MMP-8 levels in the Indian population. This test can be used on a large scale in private dental practice for the early detection of disease, tapping the sites at risk for disease, alongside helps in patient education and motivation for ***: This study shows that the novel chair side test kit detects MMP-8 levels a biomarker of periodontal disease progression accurately making it a good chair side diagnostic tool. The stability of fluid flow in a horizontal layer of Brinkman porous medium with fluid viscosity different from effective viscosity is investigated. A modified Orr-sommerfeld equation is derived and solved numerically using the Chebyshev collocation method. The critical Reynolds number Re, the critical wave number ac and the critical wave speed cc are computed for various values of porous parameter and ratio of viscosities. Based on these parameters, the stability characteristics of the system are discussed in detail. streamlines are presented for selected values of parameters at their critical state.

Introduction:This paper describes the leafing,flowering and fruiting phenology of canopy trees in the dry deciduous forest of Bhadra wildlife sanctuary from June 2004 to May ***:All the woody canopy individuals(>20 cm girth at breast height)were identified and tagged with a unique number along a transect of approximately 2 Km comprising 157 individuals of 22 *** were made at monthly intervals from June 2004 to May 2006 for leafing,flowering and fruiting ***:Leaf fall starts in september,with a peak in December and *** initiation begins in February,with a peak in April before the *** expansion starts in February from pre-monsoon with a peak in May and July during the *** senescence begins in september to November and peaks in January to *** bud initiates in January with a peak in April and May,and pollination begins in April with a peak in May and July before the monsoon to onset of *** bud initiates in May with a peak in september and *** fruit was observed in May with a peak in september and *** fall begins in November with a peak in ***:Our results show that leafing and flowering activities occur in the summer or *** patterns occur during the monsoon to post-monsoon *** among various phenophases indicates that leaf senescence flower initiation and fruit fall have strong seasonality.
