Isolation, identification, Pb(Ⅱ) biosorption isotherms and kinetics of a lead adsorbing Penicillium sp. MRF-1 from South Korean mine soil

A heavy metal contaminated soil sample collected from a mine in Chonnam Province of South Korea was found to be a source of heavy metal adsorbing biosorbents. Chemical analyses showed high contents of lead （Pb） at 357 mg/kg and cyanide （CN） at 14.6 mg/kg in the soil. The experimental results showed that Penicillium sp. MRF-1 was the best lead resistant fungus among the four individual metal tolerant fungal species isolated from the soil. Molecular characterization of Penicillium sp. MRF-1 was determined using ITS regions sequences. Effects of pH, temperature and contact time on adsorption of Pb（Ⅱ） by Penicillium sp. MRF-1 were studied. Favorable conditions for maximum biosportion were found at pH 4 with 3 hr contact time. Biosorption of Pb（Ⅱ） gradually increased with increasing temperature. Efficient performance of the biosorbent was described using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. Adsorption kinetics was studied using pseudo first-order and pseudo second-order models. Biosorbent Penicillium sp. MRF-1 showed the maximum desorption in alkali conditions. Consistent adsorption/desorption potential of the biosorbent in repetitive cycles validated the efficacy of it in large scale. SEM studies given notes on surface modification of fungal biomass under metal stress and FT-IR results showed the presence of amino groups in the surface structure of the biosorbent. In conclusion, the new biosorbent Penicillium sp. MRF- 1 may potentially be used as an inexpensive, easily cultivatable material for the removal of lead from aqueous solution.

In this paper,the node based smoothed-strain Abaqus user element(UEL)in the framework of finite element method is *** basic idea behind of the node based smoothed finite element(NSFEM)is that finite element cells are divided into subcells and subcells construct the smoothing domain associated with each node of a finite element cell[Liu,Dai and Nguyen-Thoi(2007)].Therefore,the numerical integration is globally performed over smoothing *** is demonstrated that the proposed UEL retains all the advantages of the NSFEM,i.e.,upper bound solution,overly soft stiffness and free from locking in compressible and nearly-incompressible *** this work,the constant strain triangular(CST)elements are used to construct node based smoothing domains,since any complex two dimensional domains can be discretized using CST *** additional challenge is successfully addressed in this *** efficacy and robustness of the proposed work is obtained by several benchmark problems in both linear and nonlinear *** developed UEL and the associated files can be downloaded from https://***/nsundar/NSFEM.

East Rennell of Solomon Island is the first natural site under customary law to be inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage *** threats due to logging,mining and agriculture led to the site being declared a World Heritage in Danger in *** East Rennell World Heritage Site(ERWHS)to‘shed’its‘Danger’status the management must monitor forest cover both within and outside of *** used satellite data from multiple sources to track forest cover changes for the entire East Rennell island since 1998.95%of the island is still covered by undisturbed forests;annual average normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)for the whole island was above 0.91 in ***,vegetation cover in the island has been slowly decreasing,at a rate of–0.0011 NDVI per year between 2000 and *** decrease less pronounced inside ERWHS compared to areas *** potential threats due to forest clearing outside ERWHS remain the forest cover change from 2000 to 2015 has been below 15%.We suggest ways in which the Government of Solomon Islands could use our data as well as unmanned air vehicles and field surveys to monitor forest cover change and ensure the future conservation of ERWHS.

Scaled-up industrial water electrolysis equipment that can be used with abundant seawater is key for affordable hydrogen *** search for highly stable,dynamic,and economical electrocatalysts could have a significant impact on hydrogen ***,we prepared energy-efficient,scalable,and engineering electronic structure modulated Mn-Ni bimetal oxides(Mn_(0.25)Ni_(0.75)O)through simple hydrothermal followed by calcination ***-optimized Mn_(0.25)Ni_(0.75)O displayed enhanced oxygen and hydrogen evolution reaction(OER and HER)performance with overpotentials of 266 and115 mV at current densities of 10 mA cm^(-2)in alkaline KOH added seawater electrolyte ***,Mn-Ni oxide catalytic benefits were attributed to the calculated electronic configurations and Gibbs free energy for OER,and HER values were estimated using first principles *** real-time practical application,we mimicked industrial operating conditions with modified seawater electrolysis using Mn_(0.25)Ni_(0.75)O‖Mn_(0.25)Ni_(0.75)O under various temperature conditions,which performs superior to the commercial IrO_(2)‖Pt-C *** findings demonstrate an inexpensive and facile technique for feasible large-scale hydrogen production.

Impact of weather variables on mosquitoes infected with Japanese encephalitis virus in Kurnool district,Andhra Pradesh

Objective:To assess the virus infection in mosquitoes during different seasons and correlated with various climatic ***:The field collected vectors were screened for Japanese encephalitis(JE) virus after dessication using ELISA *** of the positive pools were recorded from Culex tritaeniorhynchus(***) and ***(***) during JE transmission season(winter) and some positive pools were also reported during non JE transmission periods(*** and rainy seasons).Results:The minimum infection rates(MIR) of 1.75 from *** and 0.17 from *** has been reported in the year 2002 at the beginning of the study and the values were found nil at the end of the study(2006) from the study areas of Kurnool ***:From this study it is noted that MTR of *** and *** were modulated by various meteorological *** mosquito vector abundance increases after the monsoon period(winter) and lowest in dry season(summer). Similarly,MIR fluctuated between seasons with higher MIR recorded after monsoon period and lower in the rest of *** of these metrological parameters in JE virus infected mosquitoes is discussed in this paper.

Reclamation of Mercury from Used Silver Oxide Watch Batteries

This paper deals with the reclamation of mercury from the used silver oxide quartz wristwatch batteries employing leaching-cementation technique. The used batteries are first crushed to liberate the encapsulated active material from the case which is leached in nitric acid to bring all metal contents into solution. After the removal of silver in the solution as silver chloride by precipitation, the mercury which is present as Hg2+ in the solution has been reclaimed through cementation with zinc dust. Various effects like zinc sheet and dust, zinc quantity, pH of the solution, duration and temperature have been carried out to standardise the conditions for maximum mercury reclamation. At a temperature of 45℃ and at 3.9 pH, 92.3% of mercury was recovered using 74 μm size zinc dust with purity greater than 99.78% and the same is characterized by XRF and the results are discussed.

The Design of a Novel Bearing Manufacturing Line Based on Simulation

This paper is a case study of the production line at an automotive ancillary manufacturing plant. At first, the production line is studied for possible areas of improvement. Time study data are collected for each process and the best set-up is calculated to make the plant leaner. Furthermore, suggestions are made to procure machines from the market that make the plant leaner and more efficient. To make the suggestions indubitable, a time study calculation is done for the new machine layout.

Material development for a sustainable precast concrete block pavement

Portland cement concrete （PCC） and asphalt concrete （AC） are the most common roadway and highway construction materials which are more suitable for continuous slab pave- ments. The durability of these materials is highly dependent on construction quality and techniques, and both materials are difficult to repair. Heavy rain storms in India have recently revealed several roadway pavement failures and resulted in significant repair costs. Interlocking block type pavements are simpler to construct and maintain than both PCC and AC pavements but, have only been used for slower traffic roads due to weak interlocking at the joints. To improve the quality of block pavements, blocks made of PCC with waste tire crumb rubber partially replacing river sand （fine aggregate） are suggested. The joint interlocks can be further improved by modifying the block geometry. The material is completely recycled and is deemed more superior than concrete pavements when repair and construction techniques and costs are concerned. This paper presents the material characterization of Rubberized Concrete Blocks （RCBs） using crumb rubber particle size ranging from 0.075 mm to 4.75 mm to partially replace the fine aggregates. It also discusses the advantages of RCB over continuous material pavements.

Suitability of S-Glass/carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite for submarine hull subjected to hydrostatic pressure has been investigated in the present *** materials have raised concerns owing to their decomposition due to low resistance towards salinity and hence polymer composites have been explored to showcase their mechanical stability to withstand transverse and impact *** this end,the mechanical properties of S-Glass/carbon fiber reinforced polymer composite were experimentally investigated and higher specific strength and stiffness of the composite in comparison to many metallic materials used for submarine hull were *** obtained experimental values were used for the static and dynamic crash analysis of the bow,stern and foil through Finite Element Analysis(FEA);where depth of travel was varied from sea surface level of 0-7000 *** assembly was later developed with the optimum shape and thickness of each *** also report the nonlinear crash analysis upon impact at velocity ranging from 3 to 21 m/***,kinetic energy,acceleration peak and internal energy in struck submarine revealed that travel depth 1750 m and 3500 m is recommendable,more particularly,crash safety factor of the submarine is found to be within limit when submarine encounters crash at 1750 m.
